  1. Yes, Charlie kindled the fire of swoopin'. He was corrected at a dz or two for his "hook" turns. I met him when I was 13, and he was 15. He became my AFF instructor when I was 17 in July of '98. That was the spring/summer when JC Coolclasure placed 1st in all three divisions of the '98 blade comp. JC and Clint were fresh from Hawaii. I do not know how advanced their two-way relative canopy flight was at that time, but I will tell you all that I remember looking into the skies, and seeing Charlie and his best friend, Chris Visto, fly a very tight, two-way formation at full speed and surf into a parking lot at a dz in Minnesota. Awesome. Where are they now? In July, a year later, Charlie had motorcycle injury. That same week, Chris Visto died in a plane crash. His student stalled the Cessna. Chris was an extremely skilled pilot and may have been able to save their lives, but the flaps were electric, not manual, and to slow. Chris was going to coach and train with Annie and I in canopy flight. We had our sights set on the mountain and the pro blade with Reg. Charlie now flies lear jets and all sorts of fun stuff. There are a handful of guys that pushed the envelope, especially since the development of the PD Sabre. The Triathalon was big hit too. I remember the Nova and will not give my opinion of that canopy. We all can be so glad for the technology advancements, despite the risks. Let's go fly! Olivia
  2. A lot of us out there have many goals and dreams, and each of us is different. You can win by doing and achieving those goals, and by accepting the outcome of your actions and attempts with a proper prospective and good attitude. Regarding safety, Jeb has said in the past that in a standard BASE jump he always "looks" before he jumps, to make sure he's not an endangerment to anyone on the ground. Regardless of past incidents that are out of our control to change, let Jeb take up this challenge if he's the one to do so. When the time is right, go for it! Flying high, I'm in it for the freefall. Olivia
  3. All you guys are awesome! May the best men & woman win! Birdbabe Olivia
  4. Maybe someone can record it. I can't be involved in doing that at this time, although I do want to see the segment and wanted to inform everyone else as well. Blue Skies, Olivia
  5. Scheduled airing on Sunday June 19th 10:00PM - 10:30PM OUTDOOR INVESTIGATIONS http://www.olntv.com El Capitan In October 1999, hundreds of spectators gathered at the base of 3,000 foot " " to watch 59-year-old professional skydiver Jan Davis BASE jump - the extreme sport of skydiving off of fixed objects. It was all captured on tape by a professional cameraman and her companion of 15 years, Tom Sanders. Holly and Jon set out to find what goes on in the mind of a BASE jumper . . .
  6. Hi Bonnie, It appeares that Seth was a really great person. I'm sure you held him in high regard. I never met Seth, but when I do think of him, Jerry Loftis comes to mind. Really special people we'll always hold close to our hearts. It's good to remember and appreciate the impact their lives left on ours. Blue Skies, Olivia
  7. Even if the injury is not from skydiving . . . it is amazing how the body is designed to repair itself. My 3.5 by 8 cm burn is healing to a very delicate pink, which is covered in pink in these photos. In the 1996 photo, I think it is most interesting that I was wearing pink after a knee injury from a bicylcle in tow of a golf cart episode. Time flies! Always enjoy the moments! Even if you're with a non-skydiver. Birdbabe Olivia
  8. It's kind of funny that you say that. My dad, a somewhat non-major skydiver, suggested to Sky Systems that they put their phrase, "I love the smell of Jet Fuel in the Morning" on to coffee mugs.
  9. Honestly everyone. If you want a fling, who cares?! But if you want a relationship, are not these values important? . . . Can your special someone help develop your talents and interests? Are they supporting? If not, drop it. If it's about skydiving, always keep in mind that skydiving tops a meaningless relationship! But never give up on someone important, no matter how frazzeled they gotcha ya.
  10. Hey JP! Why not be peticular?!
  11. Dating a non-jumper can be most difficult, that's why I never tried it. Although, my parents have been married for 27 years. My dad's the pilot. She's the jumper. One question is . . . can your man help develop your talents and interests? Is he supporting? If not, dump the guy. Skydiving tops a meaningless relationship. Best wishes! Olivia
  12. At high noon, I set a boiling, hot tea pot back further on the stove with the spout open and facing towards me. It swung just right to land boiling water on my left leg. I just returned from the ER. I have two in. of 2nd degree burn and 5 in. of 1st degree burn. I'll have to treat it like baby skin, keep it covered from the sun, take lots of Juice Plus, and eat blueberries but not too much else. Annie picked up my prescription for lower tab. I'm definitely thankful that I've been so active the past few weeks. Bird so babe? Olivia
  13. Medical treatment? Here are photos to prove that no medical treatment is needed for this guy and I. Maybe a facelift? Changing subject please! 14. Oh, how very flattering. I'm independent and separate. No special provisions on my rig, except an occasional wingsuit hook up. Nice talking with you, Tony. Spread the warning!
  15. You're right. It didn't happen. I live and work, locked up in a little birdcage on the 10th of an oceanfront condo. No soliciators here. Actually, ScaryPerry sent me this Scam warning. It is funny and worth sharing to my skydiving buddies.
  16. I don't like it when people send bogus warnings as much as anyone, but this one is important! If someone comes to your front door saying they are conducting a survey on deer ticks and asks you to take your clothes off and dance around to shake off the ticks, do not do it! IT IS A SCAM; they only want to see you naked. I wish I'd gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid now. Okay, I better get back work. Olivia
  17. I often think of these words when in the jump plane. I Sing the Mighty Power of God, that made the mountains rise; That spread the flowing seas abroad, And built the lofty skies. I sing the wisdom that ordained The sun to rule the day; The moon shines full at His command, And all the stars obey. While all that borrows life from Thee Is ever in Thy care, And everywhere that man can be, Thou, God, art present there. From "I Sing the Mighty Power of God".
  18. Hello Matt, My memory is refreshed after a four mile walk on the beach. The deal I got from a local, St. Augustine kite shop was a $180 used, very nice 10 Meter kite, then an additional $120 for a Da' Kine harness, lines/bar, and an air pump for the inflated ribs of the kite. As for the boards, I have two wakeboards and five skysurf boards from Surf Flite, as Jerry Loftis was among our best of friends before he passed away in '98. Kerry Vail made us a new wakeboard in 2000, but the 1993 "fatter" version was a little more ideal for kite surfing after the addition of a handle and different bindings. My friend Neal has a board made especially for kite surfing. It was a pain in the a-- for him, until he put tighter bindings on it. So suggestion #1 for a board - nice, fitting bindings are key to getting over the crest of the wave before you hit the highway. If you don't have a local kite shop, try Ebay.com for gear sales. Stay safe, have fun. Olivia
  19. Cool. I just wanted to say that I purchased my initial set up for less than $400. After that, flying's free! Like the beach.
  20. At http://www.ikitesurf.com, you can log in for wind reports and forecasts for North America. There is probably a site similar to it for New Zealand, if that's where you are. Get yourself a four line kite 10 to 18 Meters in size for starters, a harness, bar, lines, and an instructional DVD. Definitely worth the effort to check it out and do it.
  21. Here is a picture that Michele posted on Oct 10, 2003. I'm sorry for the loss of a friend and fellow skydiver. 22. The Patriot cheerleaders said that their boys are not allowed to party prior to the game and that they were going to win, since the Eagles have been cruising the town all week. If anything, you may see Super Luke on camera in Gretchen Wilson and Charley Daniel’s part in the pre-game show. Luke was placed at the stage so Gretchen can flirt with him when she sings, “Here for the Party”. So we're going to have seen Charley Daniels perform three times this week, since the performers were at our dress rehearsals and last night, we went to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert, which included Charley Daniels, 3 Doors Down, and a few others. Annie caught Lynyrd’s hat when he tossed it. That was a great concert. Paul McCartney did his dress rehearsal with his guitar and piano in the pouring down rain. It was freezing! but he was awesome. Glad today's weather is so beautiful. It should be fun for everyone. Blue Skies! Olivia
  23. This year . . . Paul McCartney will be doing the half time show, along with Annie, Olivia, Rosalyn, Luke, Lucas, & Christy from AirZoneXtreme! Yes, we are participating in the pre-game & half time show! You may see us at the 50-yard line during the half time or jaunting across the field towards the Black Eyed Peas and Earth Wind & Fire in the pre-game show. Yea baby! We’re not going to do the Jackson deal this time around or the B.A.S.E. deal this time down, since there’s too many cameras in the way . . . Happy Super Bowl Days to all of you! GO PATRIOTS, EAGLES, PATRIOTS, EAGLES! C-ya next weekend . . . down south. Birdbabe Olivia
