Absoutely agree that you and I understand the marketing aspect. FNG's don't. They now view an AAD as a fail-safe piece of backup equipment. You've seen how many jumpers today would not make a jump without a functioning AAD. Due in large part to the manufacturers representing themselves as that uber reliable piece of equipment. Benefits to being a bigger jumper?

I really respect your opinions on most all things skydiving but I have a problem with the way AADs are marketed. From Airtec's website... You know where I'm headed with this... Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Unfortunately the justice system and common sense parted ways a long time ago. AirTec might have a problem with this one. I don't think FAR's have much to do with this. It's a product liability issue. It's possible for the AAD to inform the user that everything is OK when in fact it's not. I'm just sayin'. I don't agree with it. Please don't dent the planet. Bin Laden nearly brought down a nuclear superpower with a few box cutters. Get a grip of your own. He might not have brought us down but for a few days afterwards he shut down the markets and the airlines. Not bad for a rich turbinhead. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -

I've got a 1979 26' LoPo packed into a 1983 Racer in my basement. Data card says it was re-packed 3/2/04. I'm pretty sure it would be no problem. It's been stored in a dry place and I think the reserve has only seen the windstream 3 times (all me). Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Of course, they pick and choose what counts as "freedom." I think if you really look at their criteria it's not so much about personal freedom as businesses being free from regulation, for instance they include "mandated family leave" as one of the criteria that counts against a state, when they could just have easily counted it "for" the individual. Regulating business, in and of itself, doesn't mean a person is more or less free. That's only because you're looking at it from way over there...on the left. Please don't dent the planet. So you're saying that everyone who dedicates a large amount of their time to skydiving will end up a washed up bum at the DZ? That sounds a bit pessimistic to say the least. I'm just sayin' Don't be that guy. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

When you get to the DZ find the old guy with a limp that lives at the DZ. You know the guy that no one jumps with anymore...the one who jumps the rig that looks like a kelvinator on his back...the one who has few if any freinds because they all either bounced or quit jumping...the guy who's family gave up on him years ago because he couldn't be pulled away from the boogie to celebrate Aunt Ginny's 80th birthday. He'll give you lots of advice. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I fell and hit my head at the bonfire one night...learned not to drink to excess, at least not while in an upright position. Actually, I screwed my elbow up years ago.
