Read and learn grasshopper...(bold is mine) Suspecting that many of the new subscribers were ineligible, the Federal Communications Commission tightened the rules last year and required carriers to verify that existing subscribers were eligible. I've already made the judgement that people unable to speak even close to grammatically correct english after attending our fine, taxpayer funded public education facilities are lacking in character.     i read the article and it seems that the teleco companies are the ones who pushed to expand this program to line their pockets. no surprise to me nor am i offended but its not just the politicians buying votes. not even close.     Absolutely correct. Also, an AAD only activates the reserve. Back in the day we called them AOD's (automatic openers) but the lawyers made us change the name. I digress. You can find videos around where the cutting of the loop didn't launch the PC...that's a problem. I'll bet there's a couple of cases where 750 feet wasn't enough altitude for that weak PC to deploy the reserve. How about if you're tumbling? Easy to snag the PC somewhere. Again back in the day the AOD's had a bad quirk where they would fire for no apparent reason. Hmmm. History repeats itself. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

    No. It doesn't. It doesn't have to be profitable any more than the FAA, Department of Transportation or military "need" to be profitable. Again, it's basic infrastructure. It's nice if it can recoup some costs through user fees, but that doesn't mean it has to be a revenue generator any more than we "need" to make a profit off our Coast Guard. The general public is not the direct consumer of the armed forces, or the transportation department. If that's your line of thought then I shouldn't be paying anything to mail a letter.
