  1. Here's another good Ivan story . . . We were in Pepi's (that Mexican bar right across from the entrance to Canyon Lake between Elsinore and Perris) when Dirty Ed got into it with a few of the townies. In the midst of the beer bottles flying (I was ducking under the tables) Ivan just flat shut it down. He didn't mention being LAPD or anything he just stopped it with his manner & presence . . . NickD
  2. Yep, he always carried it in a fanny pack. One time in Elsinore they had an all cop ten way team competing in the Rumble Seat Meet but one of them got called into duty on the day of the meet. Ivan went and stood out on Cereal Road and said the next cop that drove by was gong to get a ten minute first jump course and be drafted as the tenth man . . . NickD
  3. I remember one time Ivan and I were riding in his GFs car (damn, I can't recall her name now) and we hit a big pothole on Mapes Road and the glove box popped open and out spilled a 45 auto-loader winding up pointing right at me. I shoved it aside with my foot and said, "Damn Bro, she needs to be more careful!" "No worries," Ivan laughed. "Look at it." So I gingerly picked it up and it was rusted shut to hell. "I gave that to her six years ago," he said, "and the concept of oil still escapes her . . ." NickD
  4. That's cool. I was a reserve officer in Colorado for a year in the 70s, so I'll take it as professional courtesy if you look the other way, LOL! I found myself too often siding with the hare and not the hound so I got out of that biz. Seriously though, thank you for holding the line! Big respects . . . NickD
  5. >>working with any particular bike shop>>Western Massachusetts!!!
  6. Yep, that does look like a decent start to a nice bike. Five o'clock here. Just waiting for it to get dark so I can ride some more . . . ! NickD
  7. I took those off, wait what? I think I did. Oh snap!!! NickD
  8. Where are you Jon? I've lost track since the B.A.S.E. days . . . Nick
  9. Every woman I've ever known can do sleezy . . . And I've been around. Start hitting the retro shops for gear . . . NickD
  10. >>Here is another forum for Back Yard Builders, centered out of Hemet
  11. I'll drop in there, I've been meaning to . . . Here's 9INA's done photo! NickD
  12. Yeah, Gypsy's right, the frigging DMV is only the first step. It's a "bring me the broom of the wicked witch of the west" pain in the ass process. But you have a tentative date. I want to enter 9INA in a Chopper of the Month contest on another forum I frequent and that alley behind Baldwins would be a great urban backdrop for the photographs. But I need a girl draped over her looking real sleezy. I already know you've got the goods (I've dreamed them a few times) but can you do sleezy? NickD
  13. Are you kidding? I lived in the Perris Ghetto for ten years and still visit often. I'm totally at home with white (black, red, and yellow) trash . . . NickD
  14. I got close to perfect, but there were a couple of issues. My clutch cable slipped down and melted a bit of its casing on my front pipe, but not all the way through, so I fixed that. And my oil pressure gauge is weeping a bit of oil where it enters the block, but so far that's it. I'll chalk it up to luck and all the years I worked on airplanes. Where everything has to be right. Hey Gypsy, if you're cool with it, after I get 9INA's license plates, I'd love to come by and show her to you. If that's all right PM me your address. It would be a good "first trip" for me. If you don't want me to know where all the cool knuckle parts are located we could certainly do it the other way around and your invited to my place . . . LOL! NickD
  15. Rode 9INA twice since the first ride (can't get "NINA" on her plates, it's taken, so 9INA she'll be.) I put twenty miles on her last night and a couple more this morning. And I got my first civilian wave. An older lady (a Couger?) looked up from her gardening as I passed. I thought she was going to give me the stink eye but she smiled wide and shot me a big wave. Maybe I should have pulled over for a booty call . . . Last night was killer. It was warm and like only So Cal can be like in the spring. I wanted to keep going forever. But after I passed the second cop going the other way I decided to call it a night. I've got an appointment at the DMV on the 16th of June for 9INA's plates but I'll have to be careful until then as I just can't stay off her. Like being a newly wed I guess . . . NickD

  17. Here's the answer . . . "The crew of four was led by Captain Marvin Renslow, age 47, of "Lutz," Florida." NickD
  18. Julia just completed the final accounting . . . She made a very cool spread sheet covering all the parts, tools, and materials (including taxes and shipping were applicable) purchased over the course of the project. This isn't counting the initial California registration fees as I don't know those figures yet. Total: $13,364.00 NickD
  19. >>whats the final tab?>how does the law work on a build your own vehicle?
  20. All kinds of people have tried to figure that one out. I think it meant Wyatt was a bit too smart to be a real biker. He thought there was much more to life. Billy, on the other hand . . . NickD
  21. Billy was right. They didn't, "blow it." NickD
  22. Nina's First Ride! Dedicated to "Billy" (Dennis Hopper) RIP. She just needed a last second clutch adjustment, then I had Julia scout the neighborhood for cops (no plates yet) and went for it. Man, am I jazzed!!! http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w283/Nick_DG/?action=view¤t=Ride1.flv http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w283/Nick_DG/?action=view¤t=ride2.flv http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w283/Nick_DG/?action=view¤t=ride3.flv http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w283/Nick_DG/?action=view¤t=ride4.flv NickD
  23. Thanks you guys . . . Putting the first ride off for a bit as I woke up to 70 mph winds this morning but it's supposed to die down in a couple of hours. In the meantime Nina's brake light isn't working so I'll get on that this morning. Soon I'll come back and close out this thread. But before that I'm sure there will be some shake down issues (and the nightmare that is the new registration process here in California) to write about. As for the next winter project? I promised Julia I'd rebuild the front deck on the house so I guess that will be it. Boy, ya think I can make that sound interesting enough to garner over 13,000 views? LOL!!! NickD
  24. Nina's has a six speed . . . First ride in the morning !!!!!!!!!!!!! Gonna be like trying to sleep Christmas Eve! NickD
