How about Ramona . . . It's not too high at 1390-ft MSL and we had a DZ there in the early 80s. The manager is, I believe, Chuck Hall, the racing pilot (among other cool things) and he's okay with jumpers. There's a loft there too if anyone needs on-site support. The airport identifier is RMN if you want to look it up. NickD

>>Why isn't this being used now?

>>What is the highest a balloon can be while still tethered to the ground? 300 feet??

Don't hold me to the date, but in 1982 when the Vegas Flyaway first opened we drove all night to get there from San Diego. They were using the balloon suits right from the first, and they even had an "Old Balloon Suits Wanted" advert running in PARACHUTIST. No one is thinking of a tunnel/skydiving relationship in those days and they had a lot of injuries early on which forced them to close for most of the 80s because the lawsuits were flying. We were there the day after they opened, and like the O2 masks dropping in the Jet at the Convention; they had a few bugs to work out. But we had a blast in there. The Balloon Suits didn't freak us out as most of us had jumped them at one point and many people were still wearing baggies in the early 80s. We didn't really get it at first and they weren't very good at teaching it so we were flailing around but laughing our butts off. On the speed, I don't know, but one fellow said the week they were testing it they were flying in it naked – so I think it will crank up – they probably just keep it on a general public fun setting . . . Oh, and isn't this the second commercial tunnel? I thought Pigeon Falls was older. NickD

You "can" fold your pilot chute for that place . . . Happy Birthday! NickD

>>It has been painfully obviously for many, many years now that the BASE crowd seem to think there above the law, you tresspass, B&E, property damage ECT. Show a total disrespect for other peoples rights and property, risk our sport and others way of making a living by jumping out of AC, when one of your own bounces you call 911 and run off like a bunch of cowards, because your tresspassing ect. Then you whine a cry because you can't jump El'cap and the like, guess what, you stupid fuckers are the reason us law abiding citizens can go to El' cap and jump it and the main reason it is outlawed is because of the total lack of respect your peers have shown over the years in that park.

Look a bit harder and you'll find a similar video that ends with a fatality. And from the little reading I did, there have been numerous serious injuries. If you want one of these get it now as they are about to be sued out of existence. They didn't market this thing right. Anything that flies is not a toy . . . NickD

Yes, I know him. I actually spoke on the phone with him today on an unrelated matter. Generally, unless it's a name no one has heard of, then you should worry. And what's all this Escrow stuff? It's just a canopy - you're not buying a house . . . BTW, if you'd like me to be your "go-between" I'll do it for free in this case. However, now you're going to have ask other people about me!!! You may have already passed on this deal - but just so poor Dylan isn't left under a cloud - yes - he's from Maryland, yes he travels a lot, and yes, he's always proven to be honest . . . NickD

It's sultry and raining in Perris . . . So ponder this: http://www.skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?20756801.0 I finally think we are passed the 1980s "glass box" style of building construction. . . NickD

Wordsocold didn't have much of a reign and now you are the tip of the BASE sword! WSC knows where to send for your BASE number and if you hurry you two can be sequence buddies for life. Also contact this fellow at http://www.basenumbers.org/ui.asp once you know your numbers so he can plot you both . . . NickD

He He - you two - what did you do, Mac, pull out your heater and blow his head off? For christsakes - no one is born knowing how to BASE jump. Why not try going over there and helping the guy out. You're just spitting in the soup we all have to eat later . . . NickD

Come on Space & Mac . . . These guys didn't skydive for decades before starting BASE like some of us did and most aren't riggers like we were already either. Discouraging folks from asking questions - yeah - that's the way to be . . . NickD

>>You freakin old guys never cease to amaze me. Go back to jumping your ragged out airplanes and your death gear while you're too stoned to build a round.

A couple of missed points . . . If you jump and live and then something unrelated to your jump brings the plane down and kills everyone - guess who's gonna get the blame - that's right - you! Also, Aloha Airlines is an inter-island carrier and chances are if you survived the exit you'd wind up shark bait anyway . . . NickD

Depends . . . is it a poke hole or a ripped hole? When a sharp object is passed through 0-3 or ZP fabric, like a sewing machine needle, it dosen't tear the fabric it just pushes the weave apart and passes on through. You can usually massage that type of hole back together and forget it. If it's a real rip, like it was caught on something, and the fibers are actually damaged it may need a real repair. Rip Stop Tape is okay for an emergency field repair, but otherwise with the glue residue and all it makes things worse in the end. NickD
