  1. Okay, folk, update time. We are now at 63% of the goal. Thanks to all who have contributed and to those who have requested snail mail addy, I'll be looking for your contributions. Thanks for the response this week, please keep it up. For those of you paying attention -- yes, this is an exact repost of my last update; why change the message when there has been no change in the status? Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
  2. I will second the thought about the pain. Six weeks after I shattered my femur, they did a graft to fill in a very large gap and harvested it from my iliac crest. They don't "hammer off the hip" -- according to my surgeon, they crack the iliac crest and scoop out the soft bone much like getting ice cream for a cone. My leg hurt bad enough, but the first two or three days after the grft, my leg didn't bother me near as much as the donor site. Man that was pain. The good thing is it went away pretty rapidly. The main advantage of being a self-donor is that there is little chance of rejection. As much as it hurt, given the good results I got, I would do it again. At least I would be prepared for the pain. 3. [reply Yes, and tearing up a sheet of printer paper every day keep the elephants out of my office. Thank you, Prof. K. I had been wondering what to do in the future -- you see Bugs, our kitty, has the primary responsibility of elephant deterrent and she has performed flawlessly in the role. But she is getting on in years (20 this fall) and I ws wondering how we were going to replace her when the time came. Thanks to your brilliant statement I now know not only what to do at that sad time, but I also have a method to give her a day off every now and then. Thank you so very much. 8. Why yes, yes it would. Now if I can just get someone to administer it intravenously. . . Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
  9. I appreciate the thought, Sunny, but I don't want to set up any distinctions between those who contribute and those who don't. The tent is for all, regardless. I just wish a few more people would help out so I can go on and worry about other things. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. 11. Okay, folk, here's an update and (another) complaint: As of right now, we have 58% of the needed funds for the tent and furnishings at WFFC 2004. That's not bad, but when I checked back to my notes from last year I found I had been able to declare the goal met on the 19th of May! I know that the bar was raised this year as we are getting a larger (read "more expensive") tent, but we are almost $150 short of what I had received via PayPal alone at that time! I know you're tired of hearing me carp, whine, and complain, but there is a very easy way to shut me up: those of you who use Paypal can click here; if you wish to send your contribution directly to me you may click here to PM me for details. I haven't seen Rev. Jim's list of attendees in a while, but I seem to recall that it came to over 120 dropzone.com members who plan on attending; of those, only a dozen or so have contributed to the tent (which is being provided for all). Most are the same people who contributed the last two years. Several have made more than one contribution. Several members have contributed even though they'll not be in attendance -- we all need to really thank them! Where are the rest of you? Enquiring minds want to know. 13. The first time was back in 1965, and that was fun, exciting and new. I married The Lovely Mother Lynn in 1968. The next time I realized it was happening was in 1983; it was different, exciting and quite unexpected. It happened again in 1992; after much strife and many woes , it was exciting and very different. Why this has happened so often I don't know but I am not complaining about it; I just wanted you all to know. After all these years, I find myself falling in love with my wife all over again. It's not new, but it is exciting and I love it! Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
  14. Update time good people: We currently stand at 51% of our goal. Not bad, but not great. Please contribute, folk, and let me put this issue to bed for the year. Those of you who use Paypal can click here; if you wish to send your contribution directly to me you may click here to PM me for details. I will say that there are several people who have made multiple contributions already, and I am very grateful for that. No amount is too small (or too large, for that matter) and will be used to help all dz.community members have a blast in Rantoul. Can I hear something from you soon? Books

I'll second that -- I'm reading it right now. It's my "library" book; I keep one book by the bedside, one by my recliner and one in the "library". Naw, I don't like to read. . . Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
  16. Here is your post-weekend update (lifted shamelessly from my mid-weekend update): We have passed the 50% mark. Just barely, like $2, but passed it none the less. Thanks to all those who have contributed so far and for the rest, I am waiting with bated breath to hear from you. If we meet or exceed our goal I promise to have some very nice extras in the tent this year. . . Extra thanks once again to those who have contributed yet will not be attending WFFC -- you folks really rock. 65 Days and counting down. . .

    hotmail??

  18. Better and tighter than that is to set it to "Exclusive". That way you only receive email from those you have specifically okayed, i.e., your Contacts or those in your Safe List. It also triggers the "high" spam filter and cuts way down on the junk so you can check the Junk Mail folder to see if someone has sent you email you actually want; it's then a simple matter of a click or two to add them to either your contacts or Safe List. With just a little use of Hotmail's tools, it is no big deal to keep it very managable. I've used it as my public email system for almost 10 years and have very few complaints. 24. See the first post in this thread for the link. Edit to add -- Oops! I really did mean to have the links there, really I did!
