Don't feel too bad about the toggles. I had a hard time on the student canopies and my first rental canopy pulling them down. On my personal Pilot main, they toggles are so easy to pull its rediculous. It may not be you, but the equipment or a combination thereof. David

Its not that good. Couldn't locate myself in it. I did find myself in the FAA's version though, the important one. David

You sound very fashion consicous! Sounds like we need to have a skydiving fashion show some time. David

You hit the nail on the head. I was mainly concerned about the landing portion. I am thinking that my shoes are keeping me from running off some of my better landings. They seem to catch the ground and not let go. My canopy is one of those that lieks to plane out and fly along the ground so I think a pair of draggable shoes might be in order. Thanks David

I can't find much in the archives about shoes, well pretty much nothing. Does everyone wear running shoes for jumping or is there a preferred type of shoe out there? Still new to the sport and no one has told me not to wear my New Balance running shoes. If there is something better or safer, I would like to know. David

Thanks for the info. I was just making an assumption with the cooler weather and the grass being cooler, there wouldn't be any dust devils. Will be on the lookout then. Maybe we should jump in the winter time in the cold. Should be no risk of them then. Brrrr...Although I think it might be too cold, I want to try at least one winter jump, so I know. David

Thanks to a dust devil that I nor any one else could see yet, musta just formed, my canopy partially collapsed and I ended up with a compression fracture in a vertabrae. I dropped from about 30 feet people said but was told I did everytyhing right continuing to flare. I had just got my A license to. This jump was #60 and happened 6 weeks ago in Perris. I get to start jumping again this weekend finally. Now I am in Ohio, home of green grass and fields. No more dust devils to worry about and my canopy packs easier. David

Self inflating belt for beach jumps

I would suggest a pilot shop at an airport or online. David -
I wasn't using the 120 method, I was just going to set a reminder for a week or so before the actual due date. Your method would work to. David

10 jump tickets online were and maybe still are $200. Supposed to go up to $22 per at the boogie. David

Jack, Some of us do appreciate this. With this rig being my first, I have been keeping a mental note of when the pack date will be again. Its new so I haven't had to do the repack yet. Now I can set up some future reminders in Outlook if I want to. Thanks, David

I appreciate your sound advice. I was able to get some tutoring yesterday from DZ.com's Phreezone at his dropzone. I am goign to be jumping there from now on. Anyway, he showed me a few tricks to shoulder packing including putting one set of liens on each shoulder. He also showed me how to control the pack job quite a bit better and to make it a lot narrower. I feel more confident now and just need some more practice. It also seems that the high humidity made things a tad easier also. Thanks everyone and especially Phreezone for the help. I should be able to take it from here. David

There is a show on Skydive Radio that has a Doctor being interviewed on thgsi subject. He has a lot of good advice on it. You might want to listen to it. David
-
4 tries? did you get it right this time? And where were the alpha and beta releases of this rig? Just kidding. Had to throw in some geeky computer jokes. David
-
I have been told that. In fact, one person advised me to ust let the packers do it for 100 times. I know she was right, but I want to pack some to. David
-
Color on the lines yes, but I get confused on the cells themselves sometimes as my canopy goes from blue to red to grey on the right side. Makes it harder to get the cells flaked individually. You'd have to do it to understand what I mean, I think.

Getting tired is one of the problems with me doing it on my shoulders. Heavy canopy, short arms and long time to flake it out is tiring. David
-
THanks for the encourangement. Part of the problem is the new canopy with only 7 packs on it. I forgot to mention that. I just feel like I can't see well enough to flake it right and I haev a really hard time rolling the darn tail tight enough to get a good tight pack job before putting it down. I will keep trying. Maybe I need to have someone watch me do it and make suggestions. Sometimes being short sucks. David

My first and last dropzone had hooks that I was trained on for packing. The dropzones I will be patronizing here in Ohio so far don't haev hooks to hang the canopy on. Having tried shoulder packing twice with no success, are there any solutions out there that could simulate the hook? I am 5'5" tall with a Pilot 210. Big canopy, short guy. Thanks. David

THanks for the info. I would stay for the entire time, but my Dad jsut passed away last week and my Mom is naturally having a very hard time with it. I want to be available in case she needs me. I am living with her for right now to try to take care of things here at home. She doesn't want me to skydive at all becuase something might happen to me. I know I am a grown man, but I can't leave my family like that. We made a compromise. I will probably go to the boogie 2 separate days. I also want to hit Greene County to. Gotta make the rounds before the season comes to an end. Or does it end in Ohio? I have only been back in town for about 4 weeks now and haven't jumped here yet. Imade it out to Skydive Columnbus Ohio and did the paperwork Saturday. It will be a big change from juming Otters, but it is close. David
-
Great! Thanks! BTW, what time do the gates open every day? Gotta drive in from Columbus. David

Serious question here: I want to go to Richmond for right now but I am concerned I may get overwhelmed having never been to a boogie and never having jumped with anyone but instructors. My jump count is pretty low. Is there a place for us low-timers and would I be able to start learning RW there? All I have jumped out of are Otters, so I am pretty sure that part won't be a problem. Thanks, David

I have the Adidas Climacool from SportRX. Works good in the air and on the ground on the Harley. THey come with a headstrap if needed, and only needed for use in a wind tunnel I have found. They work good skydiving with a helmet on, never tried without. David

THanks for the links. Made for some interesting reading. The psycho pack name is very misleading and sounds like a good way to pack for those of us with the new hard to pack canopies. I hate packing my 7-jump canopy. I have an Aerodyne Pilot 210. The packing manual pictures look like a propack, but they don't really say and I am not 100% sure about it. David
