New jump pilot, working around some build ups. 2 landed on the DZ and the other 2 felt like the baseball diamonds were a better option... There's a good bit of no-mans land between the exit point and the DZ. As Roger Nelson used to say "Better mud than blood." The DZ has a very complete drop zone orientation video that every new jumper sees prior to make their first jump. It shows P-50 and the base fence line. From my position they did the best they could do under the circumstances. No green light just a Cessna 182... I know big door with a great view. I personally point out the "Nuclear Super Max Prison" that is P-50. I tell em that "there is a laser that will turn you to ashes before you hit the ground....." I'm pretty sure that gets the message across. The base extends quite far around P-50.

Nope. I don't know where you got that idea. Your point about the safety factor of outside video is a very, very good one. It sounds like you ave had some real issues there. Do you have a choice of outside guys to fly with the tandems? I don't understand your statement that flying tandem with a pole in your hand is a good idea. Could you elaborate? Handcam quality sucks compared to outside. You don't list a tandem rating in your profile. Is that correct? popsjumper... seems like a bit of a troll to me. Safety/quality arguments for the sake of making noise. Neither are valid! Customer wants a memoir of their jump and HC is the most economical and safest! The moment you put someone else on the jump you increase the likelihood of things going wrong exponentially. How could you argue otherwise?

The pasanger harness main lift web is way to loose (biggest contributing factor) for that size pax + bad set up and to much togle imput after finals resluting in minimal lift on landing. i dont think landing a tandem on a pea pit is a good idea unless theres enough wind to do a stand up landing. Taking a very heavy, out of shape person on a tandem truly increases the likelihood of a bad landing. Having them so far below in the harness doesn't help and landing in the gravel is an opportunity to dig in and flip. Taking obese people usually ends up with them sinking in the straps no matter how tight you get them. You can have them stand on your feet after opening and tighten the uppers... I have most people holding there legs up for landing with hands under the knees. Explain the risk of leg injury when they demonstrate the position under canopy. This also gives me and idea of just how capable they are. Pea grave or soft ground really isin't the optimum landing area for the slide in. Nice grass on a flat solid surface would have kept that landing from flipping....

I met Maggot while doing an NSL 4 way thing in Atlanta. It was quickly obvious that he needed a "handler." Dinner was at a historic "flour mill" or something like that. Nice family owned place with many antiques. At one point Maggot returns wearing a 100 year old wed all thought it was funny. The owners were white as a ghosts. Sad to trip over this and see he is gone. He was one of the most memorable characters I've met.
