California's Proposition 19. Legal Weed!! What's everyone think?
RonD1120 replied to Mike420's topic in Speakers Corner
Or they find some good oogie-boogie version of bizarre beliefs to make themselves comfortable with the real world. Sometimes there are oogie-boogies in the real world. 2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. Provide an example of real world oogie-boogie; that is, some observed event for which there is evidence that it actually happened, preferably repeatable, and for which the explanation requires a belief in magic or mysticism. Hmm! I see you do not understand what an oogie-boogie is. I suggest readings from the works of Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Fritz Perls or the Tibetan Book of the Dead. Consider the Id, Ego and the Superego or the Emotions, the Mind, or the Will. Then ask yourself, why are mood altering substances required? Follow up from the Evangelicals for Social Action, ePistle October 20, 2010. READERS RESPOND Dear ePistle, Loved, loved, loved Ron Sider’s article about how Christians can relate to the gay community. I love what Andrew Marin is doing, and I’m so glad ESA published this article! This is theologically right on and Ron’s words really communicate God’s heart. Well done, ESA! Angie Weszely Palentine, IL Dear ePistle, Jesus is Lord. Interesting article about Mr. Marin and gays. Speaking the truth in love as James Dobson’s ministry does. How can anyone read the Scriptures such as Judges 19 thru 21, I Cor. 6:9; Romans 1, etc. and not see that unrepentant sinners will not inherit the kingdom is hard to believe. To continue to sympathize with the unrepentant does not seem like love, but deception. Wayne K. Editor’s response: We share your desire to "speak the truth in love." This is affirmed in Ron's statement, "I want ESA to be a loving place where gays and lesbians can freely express their views even as ESA remains firmly committed to the biblical teaching that God’s will for sexual activity is in a lifelong marriage between a man and a woman." ESA's goal is not merely to sympathize but to extend authentic, costly love to individuals who are dearly beloved by their Creator. I believe you are correct. Your last statement begs the question, what would the left wing liberal fanatics do without the right-wing Christian boogeyman? It the Yin-Yang. It takes both to create energy. There is a little Yang in every Yin and vice versa. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Compassion, great! But people aren't complaining that Christians showed them compassion. They're complaining about the extraordinary lack thereof. That's not an attempt to spread a message. It's an excuse to point fingers and vent your anger on people who have done nothing to you. We don't scream in church at the twenty-somethings who are living together and not married. We don't spit at unwed mothers. We don't curse at people who are divorced. We invite them in to sit down, hear the message, and do the best they can with it. Why should gay folks be treated any differently? Christians would do well to remember that nobody ever found Jesus while being screamed at, cursed at, spit at, or any of the other nasty behavior I saw on Sunday. I thought the mission of Christians was to bring people closer to Jesus, not push them farther away. Am I wrong? You are not wrong. You are right on target. Again I state, I have never witnessed the aforementioned degrading behavior in any church I have attended. For that matter, I have not heard of it in my community. Sadly, I have read about despicable injustices in other parts of the country. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Allow me to correct your assumption. First, the term phobia indicates fear and, although popular, is incorrectly attributed to those who voice objection to homosexual behavior. Sex outside of marriage, between a man and a woman, is sinful. We do not use the terms "prostiphobia" or "promiscophobia" or "swingophobia." Those voicing moral concern are objecting to practices that have negative social and personal consequences. Second, I do not fear the coming Apocalypse. It is an end time prophecy. It will come and no one knows when. It is the last prophetic message to be fulfilled. The increase and acceptance of sinful behavior is a sign of the end times. In other words, for the Christian, things will get a whole lot worse before they get better. As a recovering alcoholic and substance use abuser I have a compassionate desire to help others free themselves of that bondage, if they choose to do so. As heterosexual, I have the same compassion for the individual practicing homosexuality. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Translation - I was once fucked up on drugs, now I'm fucked up on religion. You just changed your crutch is all. You are right. Jesus is the ALL. He is the crutch that never fails. He is closer than my prayers to ask for comfort, assistance or physical strength. He never gets down to stems and seeds. He provides the peace that surpasses all understanding. I really wish I could say the same. I wish I didn't have to hear the filth that Christians were screaming at me and those I was with yesterday at the AIDS Walk. They were shouting terrible things at us, cursing at us in the name of Jesus. We Walk to help those that are victims of an awful disease. I don't care if they got it from sex or what kind. I don't care if they got it from a needle, whether they were a drug user or a hospital nurse, or whether they were a child that got it from their mother. I don't care if they're gay or straight, male, female, adult, child, black, white, purple or green. We walk to raise money because people are sick and need help. Seems like the Christian thing to do. I agree with your post and your socially active stand. Like you, I have seen people suffering and, in the beginning, dying from this terrible disease. The behavior you describe from the Christian protesters can not be Scripturally justified. For those folks, their sin is ignorance of the righteous path of holiness. That understanding does not make it easier to tolerate their repulsive actions. I just understand them as I do most people. I have been fortunate in my Christian walk not have been exposed to hostility within the church. I do not know why. Being raised in and living in the South you would think I would have. I have had mixed beliefs regarding this issue most of my adult life. One the one hand, people in general, have difficulty accepting all of life on life's terms and therefore seek some form of mood altering substance as an insulator. From that pragmatic standpoint, there are advantages to smoking marijuana over alcohol use and it should be legalized. For me, alcohol was first but, marijuana was a gateway drug that opened the door to a destructive path ending in major depression, recurrent. I have now been straight, clean and sober for over 27 years. The first thing the Lord showed me was in reference to marijuana. Namely, it is a corruption of the temple of the Holy Spirit. When I invited the Holy Spirit into my life I found the strength to accept life on life's terms. Legal or illegal, it does not matter. What is important is that you do not need it, there is another way. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. You are wrong. Apparently, you have difficulty comprehending what I post. That is my fault. If the student did not learn, the instructor failed to teach. Name calling only indicates the level of analytical prowess by the responder. Note: The OP was in a positive vein. You and the other guy responded in negative PA's. Such behavior indicates a message beyond its words. FWIW. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Reminds me of the story that Lyndon B. Johnson once called his opponent a "pig fucker." His campaign manager said that was not fair because he couldn't prove it. Johnson's reply, "It doesn't matter. Make him deny it." Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

These are the signs of the end of times. Societies are changing but God's Word remains constant. When the majority i.e., conservative, liberal, Christian, Atheist, whatever, takes a stand against aberrant behavior, those who practice it are very uncomfortable. Just imagine how bad the pedophile feels. My position is the preach the truth and help the captives get free from their personal bondage. I have worked with pedophiles as well as gays, substance abusers, those suffering with suicidal ideation and unrestrained mania. I know how to find the path out of the woods. If you, or whomever, chooses to live in the woods there is nothing I can do. The message of the OP was to help the LGBT community out of their bondage with love and compassion. I support that strategy and always have. SC is a public forum. So here, I preach the truth as it is stated in God's Holy Word. The choice remains with the reader as to what they will do. Male genitalia and female genitalia are complementary. The choice is obvious in normal circumstances. The choice for me was not with what kind but when. Sex has not been that big a deal for me. As a young man in the military I choose sport parachuting and/or alcohol over sex every time. Now at 68 I'd rather eat bar-b-que and take a nap. Homosexuals are a product of abnormal circumstances, the nature versus nurture argument. The Bible states that homosexuality is a sin, as are many activities. Everyone has to choose not to sin. Committing sins are easy, choosing not to takes sincere effort. Most folks I know, including me, do not make the choice to change their behavior until it costs them dearly. If you keep doing what you've always done, you will keep getting what you've always got. Sin can and will be forgiven and life will be restored when you, and I, choose obedience to God's Word. I have never in my life condoned hostility toward homosexuals. I have never known a Christian who was hostile toward homosexuals. I am a member of the Patriot Guard Riders to make a stand against the Westboro Baptist Church. I do not consider them hostile but grossly disrespectful. I do not understand your inference to child suicide. Did you mean adolescent suicide? As a professional you should understand that responsibility for suicide rests with the person committing it. No one can cause another person to do anything. Again, it is personal choice. Life is tough. Do you and I take personal responsibility for our actions or do we blame others for our dysfunctional behavior? I choose to take personal responsibility. I try to help others struggling with that choice. I do not condone sin just to make someone feel comfortable for the moment. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. You lost me on that one. The beleif that a person "chooses" to be gay and has the abiilty to change through prayer. This dispite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, but then some people would rather base their beleifs not on science but religion. (Spiritual truth is discerned from obedience to the Divine Creator not from rational intellectual understanding.) Correcto mundo! Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. You lost me on that one. Rather a given, eh? Well no it isn't. You made what I read as a generalized statement. The general view of sexuality from the Christian perspective is sex between one man and one woman in the sanctity of marriage. How is that pathological? Monogamy teaches respect and responsibility for another person. That concept is losing popularity in the U.S. It is being replaced with political correctness and bigger government. It is just signs of the end of times, or eschatology. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
