Hmmm, interesting. Basically macro means general or grand scale. Micro means specific or small scale. I thought our exchange now was more moderate and the past more antagonistic. It certainly looks like miscommunication to me. One thing that never works, for anyone, is to tell someone else how they should think, act, feel or speak. That is why you are getting reactive statements from me and others. When you accuse me of banishing gays to hell it is not true. I have no power to do that. The Bible says it is an abomination. Sin is sin, all equal and all capable of forgiveness. I have been a counselor and a group facilitator in treatment facilities. When the exchanges border on encounter group rules I change my tactics. Also, for me the game becomes a challenge to say what I need to say without being kicked out of the SC. That requires refraining from name calling. Coreece is better at it than I am but our styles are different. As a general rule of thumb for self edification, whenever you encounter a word that you do not understand stop reading and look up the definition. Because, everything after that word is going to be influenced by its definition. Winsor's posts are great for that. He uses words and phrases that will make you think. The great commission of Christ was not to win souls but to make disciples. Only the Holy Spirit can bring a person to salvation. The evangelist's job is to make you aware that salvation exists. My job is to help those along the path after they have made the decision for Christ. I am not honey. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Literally LOL! OK, you simply must humor me with why you think I want or need your protection, and tell me how you're keeping me safe. After that, well, just get over yourself, because adherence to dogma instead of finding your own path makes you more of a sheep than a sheepdog. Also note, the uniquely callous brand of religion you promote is unlikely to attract as many followers as the kinder, more compassionate versions promoted by your peers. Honey will catch more flies than vinegar and all that. Blues, Dave You made a comment on the macro level and I responded on the macro level. Now you come back on the micro level. You Liberals are a slippery bunch I tell ya'. In Apr 09 I started out with positive messages and was attacked. So I changed my tactic and started giving back as I get. In the past you have been extremely antagonistic. Here lately you have been bordering on moderate. I can hold my own either way. "Eyes on the olive branch with arrows at the ready." That is an excellent question. Unfortunately, I am not able to give a conclusive professional answer. My work was primarily as a substance use disorder counselor and not a mental health counselor. First I believe, as I stated above, there is a difference between the spirit of man and the soul of man. The soul is defined by some, and I accept this definition, as the mind, emotions and will. ... Thanks for your response, Ron. I wasn't looking for your "professional answer" so much as some idea of how you reconcile the idea of a non-physical spirit (the "mind, emotions, and will" as you state) with mental illness. It sounds as if you accept the idea that someone can be mentally ill, which I appreciate. Living in the South, I often get the idea that many people here do not believe in mental illness, at least not as a physical condition, but rather believe that "crazy" behavior is entirely voluntary and just reflects an evil "spirit". I wonder if this attitude isn't rooted in the notion that the "mind, spirit, and will" is intrinsically different from the physical body, so when people behave badly it must be because they are evil, not because they have a physical disease. Anyway, I don't understand how an immaterial "spirit" can be affected by drugs that affect brain chemistry. There are a variety of drugs that can help alleviate symptoms of schizophrenia. bipolar disorder, etc. These disorders strongly affect the "mind, spirit, and will"; if these aspects of human nature are not based in physical structures of the brain, how can they be affected by chemicals that merely change brain biochemistry? I hope you have a great, safe and happy 4th! Don Thank you and I wish you likewise. We saw a good fireworks display last night at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. We may seek out another somewhere tonight. You have me thinking and not certain if I am on the same page with you. For me, the spirit is the motivator and the soul is what is affected/effected. For example, a spirit of rebellion leads someone to choose drug use. The pleasure derived from the dopamine release then leads to continued use and possibly addiction. Addiction is physical and can be treated. Then once alleviated we are again back to the spirit of rebellion to choose again. Is this the direction you were headed? Jesus was a result of the belief that his was the end time. The Jews during the roman rule were all waiting for a messiah, the heir of David if you so will. There where a few messiahs back then by the way, and if Paul hadn't gone all crazy for Jesus, Jesus would have been just another zelot who was crucified by the romans to keep the palestinian people in line. I don't understand the whole passion thing anyway, Ron maybe you can give some insight. Why was Jesus death so special ? He was killed and tortured in exactly the same way as normal thiefs and murders. But somehow Jesus suffering saved humantiy. The suffering of everybody else was of course deserved or in vain or whatever. Realising this when I was 8 years old was my first step to becoming an atheist since I believe all people are the same and the suffering of one person can not be that much important than the suffering of someone else. But you will say: it's different because Jesus was God's son somehow, born normally raised as a caprenter. But somehow you know that this dude was Gods son. Do you really think a couple of guns and stash of food is going to help you through the end times? If you are so sure about an existing afterlife then why do you not embrace the end of time or death as however it may come to you, since you as a believer you will surely go directly to heaven.... Why try and survive if the end of time has obviously arrived... If you are an atheist I doubt anything I say will be acceptable to you. I don't expect to survive the end times. I expect to be raptured before the wrath of God. Who knows? I will do my best to protect my family while the battle is raging. Jesus' death was special and noteworthy because of His resurrection. I know you don't accept that. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

Ron: Why would you possibly be wary, or fear anything, or anyone. Lay it at the foot of the cross my brother. Dont sweat the small stuff the head cheese is steady on watch. You take Care, God Bless. -Richard- Right on. I admit I maintain personal weapons and ammo. I seek a safe enclave in the mountains for when and if the poo-poo is in the fan. I support our military and their mission to the GWOT. I believe these are the end times and all is according to God's plan. I cannot help falling back on the Boy Scout motto, "Be prepared." Thanks for the good word. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

Then you can start by reading the Constitution yourself. Nowhere in the Constitution is there any mention of "Christian beliefs". In fact there is only on one mention of religion in document. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” I agree with on the Constitution but you beliefs and way of life are debatable big time. By the way I too am a Vietnam Vet and it does not give me the right to slander the beliefs of others any more than it does you. This country gives you the right to live your life anyway you see fit, within limits, but it does not give you the right to dictate to others how to live theirs. Sparky[/reply Welcome home and, thank you for your service. I'm not sure where you are going. The words quoted are from my friend's article. I cannot dictate to anyone how they live their lives. However, I can disagree with how they live their lives. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Essentially true, except I don't blame gays Pastor Phelps does. It is a matter of semantics. I consider WBC a cult and they are a form of domestic terrorism. To me they are the enemy. I do not see the funding as an either/or proposition. I think Obamacare is a power grab for the benefit for the federal government. In all my years as a clinician, I never saw anyone deprived of medical treatment that made an effort to receive it. In my experience, in order to survive you occasionally have to get your hands dirty. If you choose to be a sheep that is fine and no criticism from me. However, what I criticize is that you are bad mouthing the sheepdogs that are trying to keep you safe. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. That is an excellent question. I assume you are familiar with Multiaxial Diagnosis. Axis I represents treatable mental illness and Axis II represents personality disorders which are generally not directly treated. Schizophrenia is the bugaboo Axis I diagnosis. No one knows for certain what causes it and how to cure it. We can only help the patient manage it. Is it evil spirits that throw the body chemistry haywire? Is it the predisposition of genetic factors from family history? Is it the byproduct of socio-environmental factors? Who knows? Dr. Bill Wilson, former medical director of the School of Psychiatry at Duke University, in the 80's attempted to approach psychiatry from a spiritual point of view and wrote some papers on the subject. I do not believe the spirit develops the mental illness. I see it as the elan vital of life. I believe a person's spirit can be strengthened or weakened. Axis I illnesses are, I believe, neurological and physiological. My job as a counselor was/is not to find the cure but to assist in individual patient/client make better, viable, more proactive positive decisions to live with and/or decrease the power of the mental condition burdening him. To that end I was/am eclectic in my approach. The journey begins with establishing a client/counselor relationship and determining what works. What works is defined and determined by the client. It is subject to change as the client sees fit. If the Axis I diagnosis requires Rx medication management then part of the counselling therapy is to establish a routine to maintain the prescription regimen. The model I previously described; we are spirit, we have a soul, which is the mind, emotions and will, and live in a physical body; does not allow for any one part of the human experience to be separate from the others. It is a homeostasis, they all fit together and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, a Gestalt. Can prayer be useful along with medication, therapy, good diet, exercise, and better decision making? Yes I believe it can. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. How do you know this? I researched it back in the 80's when I had a private Christian counseling practice. What evidence did you find and how did you test it? Read Correece above. Suffice to say it came with my matriculation to the Master's level at the University of South Florida, ordination in the Covenant Church of Tampa and Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Do your own research pal. The info is available to all. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. I guess this means that you haven't read any of Ron's posts where he espouses these. Pity Ron ignores the Sermon on the Mount in favor of his own more aggressive and hostile version of "Christianity". And you only pick and choose snippets of my posts to justify your liberal/socialist point of view. You do not accept or reference my clarifications of posts in question. You do not answer my questions when I ask you for clarification. As I have stated before, IMO, your posts are generally sophomoric and not befitting a PhD. As you know, I am not the only one who has called you on your style. I have come to accept you as a typical liberal/socialist and I'm OK with that. I am taking the time to respond here for davjohns' edification. I respect him and his posts and I will not let you have the last word concerning my beliefs and values. With a preference for killing worshipers of other gods, condemning queers to eternal damnation, and making absolutely positively sure that poor people don't get medical care on your dime? Nice lord you serve there. Blues, Dave We don't do that. It is your lack of actual knowledge. You are just guessing at what you think we do. You have been doing that for several years now. CR be da man. Made me laugh. Reminds me of my previous employment at the residential treatment facility. Clients there were generally white trash Oxy and Meth addicts, about 25%. The other 75% were crack head Niggaz. I remember one in particular, an outpatient client, arrested for robbing a convenience store. His defense, he needed to take care of his kids. Oh, and to buy a little crack to ease the stress. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

Carnal is an acceptable term to use in Christian testimony. Before salvation the soul is oriented to the flesh. After receiving the Holy Spirit the soul begins the journey of the spirit home. Once started, God will complete the journey to perfection. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Flawed logic. What you are describing are emotional states completely internal to the individual. Spirituality implies a spirit. Something separate from the self. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Although you place no validation on Scripture, the fact remains that it has been accepted by many down through the ages of time. IMEO: Soul represents the self i.e., mind, emotions and will. Spirit represents the elan vital or essence of life. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
