  14. In that case, it is likely that the bulk of what you think is Logic is anywhere from slightly to completely wrong. For example, when someone says disparagingly that something is "just semantics," they are often overlooking Semantics' key role as the study of meaning in the attempt to claim something meaningless. Similarly dismissing Rhetoric, the study of argument (and no, I do not mean the Monty Python variant) and its structure, can serve to bolster a good deal of nonsense. Logic is math, pure and simple. It is not "good" or "bad" in and of itself, but its applications are broad. A particularly good treatment of the subject is Introduction to Logic by Irving M. Copi; it is comprehensive, but not intended to be a light vacation read. A perusal of Wikipedia entries on the various subjects would cover the bases, but there is a lot to be said for following a through treatment from soup to nuts. For a Logician to hear people's idea of "Logic" is akin to a Parisian hearing someone say "pardon my French." There is more to it than just a turn of phrase. BSBD, Winsor I never think about logic except when it pops up in a SC reply or post. You are a learned man with a critical eye for exactness. You express yourself as such consistently here in SC. You grade posts and responses as if they were graduate level or professional papers. Me, I just blast stuff out as it comes to my mind. The only thing I am consistent on is Jesus Christ and Him crucified. The rest is psychedelic, pun intended. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 15. I know the feeling and can be empathic. I get the same reaction when I read or hear something espousing the left wing liberal agenda, political correctness or the benefits of the BHO administration. 17. One of the key concepts of Logic is definition. There are various types of definition - lexical, legal, technical, precising, and so forth - such that two people can be using the same word without ever touching on the same subject. Thus, when you use the term "faith," it is with a specific meaning that you do not take care to denote. One can be completely devoid of superstition and still be capable of many versions of "faith." Faith can denote confidence without ever crossing the line into belief. One example is, say, skydiving. One need not believe in Odin or Gichimanitou to have faith that their properly packed parachute will operate properly if given the opportunity to do so. Does one take a "real risk" in relying on said faith? You bet your life. This statement demonstrates a profound lack of comprehension of what is Logic. The fact that you use an electronic computer to post such a claim is exquisitely ironic on many levels. It demonstrates faith in applied logic on an operational basis. BSBD, Winsor In reference to your first comment. You defined faith in terms of what the mind can conceive possible and or probable. I am referring to faith in the unknown. As to the second statement, ah shucks, you covered for quade. It probably will not be a surprise for you to learn that in six years of college and university education, I cannot recall ever having one formal course in logic. The subject was referred to here and there of course. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

  19. Explain. How is the logic "flawed." Please use actual logic in your answer. If the lack of faith is the only thing you can muster in regard to why christians don't commit suicide, then that gives me legitimate reason to question your mental dexterity, motive for posting and your ability to understand the christian faith. The Bible tells us that everyone is created with a seed of faith. That seed must be nurtured to grow. These folks that claim to have no faith puzzle me and have kept me in a quandary for a several years. The only explanation I can deduce is that the faithless have never taken a true risk. That is to say they have never ventured further than what their own minds could conceive possible. Oh, and quade, logic is flawed because it is a construct of mortal thinking. 20. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain my frequent use of the name of my Lord and Savior. "Jesus, Jesus there is something about that name." John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: Acts 3:16 And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Philippians 2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The above are just a few of the many references to the power and justification of the name, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. It is my duty and responsibility to proclaim the name of and give credit to the Lord Jesus whenever I am able. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 21. Dude! You just violated the Third Commandment. ??? Number 3: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;" I don't understand what you mean. 22. I think that is a called a defeatist attitude. What happened to 'thy kingdom come on Earth as it is in heaven?' One must try to make the world better not just throw up our hands in the face of iniquity and go arm ourselves. WWJD? "Trust God but tether your camel." 23. So your answer is to be reactive not proactive, prepare for the fight rather than have society prevent the fight in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I agree that you need to be prepared but I also think that prevention is better than cure. I think that is called Utopia. 24. Given that women aren't forcibly restrained from possibly dangerous activity, nor are they forcibly required to engage in healthy activity when pregnant, I'm going to suggest that there's a lot to say that a 1-second-old post-sex fertilized egg isn't really a full human. Especially since not even the mother knows that it exists yet, and might not for a couple of months. I am pro-choice. I'm not pro-abortion, but I strongly think there are situations where choice is necessary, and I think that the parents have that choice, very possibly with medical and/or family advice. Wendy P. 25. I agree. Don't waste too much of your time fighting the heathens that post here. Keep in mind that everyone will stand before the Lord Jesus Christ.
