Congressman Bill Young and his wife have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to assist them in paying tribute to Sean Smith, the former Airman who was killed in the raid on our consulate in Benghazi. You will recall that he is one of the four who was murdered there on 9-11. His father, Ray Smith, lives in the Tampa Bay area. He is a disabled Marine who was a “tunnel rat” in Vietnam. He was burned over 60 percent of his body during a mission there. Ray has had a very difficult time dealing with his son’s death and sought out the Youngs to ask for help in getting some answers about the timeline of events there. He asked the Youngs if there was someone to memorialize Sean at Bay Pines. Congressman Young asked the hospital director if there was a place in the hospital to place a plaque honoring Sean’s memorial. She has identified a very nice room utilized by the families of veterans going through tough times of their own. Ray Smith will be arriving at Bay Pines around 1145 Monday morning. We will escort him upstairs to unveil the plaque and honor his son. Mrs. Young thought it might be meaningful to Ray if we had a few Patriot Guard Riders honor Ray with a flag line on the sidewalk leading into the hospital.
