Your marriage can be whatever you want. But when the government is handing out benefits, you can't let religious concepts enter into the computation. Which is why getting government out of the marriage business is a win-win for everyone. Lets get them out of the insurance business, too. I agree. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

Out of curiosity, if Tom was married to both Bob and to Alice, would Bob and Alice be assumed to be married to each other as well? Suppose Bob didn't care much for Alice, but decided to marry Bruce, who was already married to Susan. Now we have five people linked by various combinations of married/not married, or else we have five people all assumed to be married to one another even though each of them have not entered a direct marriage contract with most of the members of the group. I can't begin to imagine the fun the courts would have handling a divorce/division of assets, or an inheritance issue, under such circumstances. Don Which is exactly what will happen now that DOMA has been overturned. Marriage should be one man and one woman. Otherwise only the law profession benefits. Which, if I remember correctly, Andy9o8 refers to as the silver lining in the cloud. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Ron, I'm sorry you still feel so much guilt but also feel you're not being honest with yourself as to how and why you and the mother came to this difficult decision, but it was ultimately her decision. That said, if the thought process was as simple as you stated, do you feel you would have been good parents had abortion not been a legal option? I'm sure in your work as a substance abuse counselor you saw many children with unfit parents and thought "these children don't deserve this." Have you had any contact with the mother since? Jesus absolved my guilt in 1981. No I have not seen my ex-wife since. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Barf. Do you own your body, or the government; after God? I believe your body, as does everything, belongs to God. Who does the unborn fetus belong to? Unborn children are in God's care. Where are you going with this line of reasoning? It seems silly to me to play this mind game. I am a Christian and you know that. Do you think you are going to trick me into giving up my faith? Ron = FAIL! Ron... who owns your body after God? ??? Your body is the temple for the Holy Spirit. You can sanctify it or desecrate it. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

No, I do not think it should be legal. So what? It is legal. The lady for whom Roe vs. Wade was determined does not think it should be legal. So what? Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

So you believe that abortion should be legal and it is up to the woman and her doctor to decide what is best? It is legal and that will not change. I think it is evil. Yes, you are definitely a "don't do as I do, do as I say" kind of a guy. I not buying that trip you are trying to lay on me. You are assuming more than I stated. Sounds to me like he has it exactly right. You did it when it served your purposes, but now you don't want anyone else to be able to do it. You had a child aborted because at the time you thought it was the right thing to do. You changed your mind and feel guilty about it, so you wish to deny others the ability to decide for themselves. If you think that isn't a do as I say not as I do scenario, then you are clearly not living in the same world as the rest of us. No, I wasn't a Christian when I agreed to abort my child. The Lord used that to convict me and bring me to the foot of the cross, along with many other bad choice convictions. I believe abortion is evil. The choice is entirely up to the people involved. So do conservatives, in their own way. This FoxNews-ian obsession with vilifying of "liberals" contributes absolutely nothing to the national conversation other than divisiveness. It is petty sloganeering at the expense of thought, analysis and discourse. No argument from me on that one, even though I am a strong conservative desiring less government control SO why do you want the government to control access to reproductive health care for women? Why do you want the government to decide who can and cannot get married? I do not and I do not. That argument is moot. Both of those questions have been retired. Nothing to see here, just move along. Last week I was driving to the gym at about 7:30 and there was a massive electrical storm was approaching. A young guy was waiting for the bus which runs every 30 minutes or so. I flew by in traffic as rain drops starting hitting he windshield. I pulled over, hucked the car around and asked the guy if he wanted a ride. He ended up living about an hour out of my way (now missing my workout) but I brought him there anyway. And guess what, he was even black, the kind of people you dislike so much. On top of that, I didn't even try to convert him to atheism I also have sponsored kids in several countries for the last 5 years. So what the fuck do you do for the world again beside preach your hate? Please go back to your little enclave I was going to say something nice to you then I read the last sentence. You hurt my feelings so bad I had to get off the internet. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Perhaps instead of just "thinking" you could Google it. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/05/28/1212095/-Atheist-Charity-raises-over-100k-for-Blitzer-ed-Oklahoma-Tornado-Survivor What in the heck is the Daily Kos? It looks like an obscure communist information site. My thought concerned the MSM. They are quick to use atheists to attack Christians. However, they have no interest in atheists otherwise. That sort of puts atheists in the category of useful idiots. But, in reality who gives a crap about the MSM anyway? Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Most atheists feel no need to organize into a group. I have a co-worker who is really big into organized stuff. He goes to church and religous events more often than most Christians I know, specifically to, umm, reverse-evangalize or something (I don't remember what he calls it) and frequently attends speeches by renowned atheists and meetings of local atheists. He's the exception, not the rule, and I don't condone his proselytizing at religous events. As for me, my wife, my previous partners, and my atheist friends, we just don't care what gets you folks through the night. We prefer you don't try to force it on others and usually stop listening to you when you bring it up to us. I've considered for several years starting a charity dedicated to secular assistance with minimal overhead (the details of which would be published for easy access). I have a name in mind and general ideas for the articles of incorporation and the bylaws, but for the last 12 years I've always had either two jobs or one job + school, which doesn't leave enough free time to do it properly. So instead, I donate money and time to other charities that demonstrate the same values. I evaluate them on the basis of financial performance (what percent of proceeds is spent on organizational expenses) and what fraction of energy is expended promoting a religion. My cutoffs are 10% for overhead (5% preferred) and 1% for proselytizing (0% preferred). Blues, Dave Sounds like an excellent plan to me. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit.
