Yes Ron, you are an American. What you fail to understand though is Americans are not homogenous. There are many other Americans who share very, very few of your beliefs and attitudes, and their americanism and their patriotism is just as valid as yours (if not more so, if it's based on valuing people, laws and equality rather than som stars and some stripes). You are absolutely correct and I believe most folks understand the difference between legal and disrespectful behavior. I have participated in 170 Patriot Guard Rider missions for veterans. In every instance where we strongly suspected that the WBC might show up we were reminded that we are a non-confrontational organization. The code is explicitly spelled out on the website. Exactly my point, I believe the flag should be respected for what it stands for and the blood shed for it. Placing it on the ground and walking on it is disrespectful. When I used to do demos, we always tried hard to catch the flag before it touched the ground. When we repacked the flag we would hide away because we had to fold it on the ground and we did not want any spectators to witness the procedure.
