You mean, like the states handled who could and who could not vote? Many states still have provisions in their constitution that run directly counter to the Federal Constitution. Georgia, for example, still has a provision (not enforced these days, that I know of) that bars people who do not belong to a church from holding elected office or any state-funded position of "significant responsibility". This is clearly unconstitutional in light of the first amendment. Surely basic civil rights should apply equally to all, and not be contingent on where you happen to live? Don If the state is not enforcing the provision, then the state is handling it. Civil rights are a factor of cultural relativity. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. There is where you run aground. It is not my business or desire to dictate other's religious or sexual preferences. My only mission is to state what is in the Bible as sin. Free will, personal choice, personal responsibility, personal accountability. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. You would think that way. It is my understanding that God The Father not Jesus will conduct the Great White Throne Judgment. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

I agree. The federal government should not be making those rulings on businesses or schools. Let the states handle those disputes. But, you know how I am. There was a movement during the late '60s early '70s to allow LSD for religious practices. If the Native Americans could use peyote some should be able to use acid. Literally a pipe dream. The Rainbows started about the same time with the basic philosophical ideology that their members were outside the rules of government. They would take care of their own. I remember in the late '70s they camped in the Pecos Wilderness and supposedly were trying to formulate a proposition for NM to secede from the U.S. and be governed by the Rainbows. I don't think they could find pen, paper and a postage stamp. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. In what way is trying to establish a theocratic government upholding the US Constitution? Don It is not. I would not waste my time trying. Jesus will establish the theocracy during His millennial reign. That will take place after the Tribulation and prior to the Battle of Armageddon and the Great White Throne Judgment. How do you reconcile that with the 1st amendment? Do you consider your self to be a patriotic American? Don I am simply sharing what I believe from my perspective. The First Amendment only applied to free speech. The slogan at the time was, "Ronald Reagan was God's man for the season."Let's look at what the first amendment says. It's not very long, but it packs in a lot: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Well look at that. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" is the very first phrase. What are we to make of your statement that "the First Amendment only applied to free speech"? Are you simply woefully ignorant, or are you a willful liar? Not a very flattering choice, Ron. Who do you mean by "you people"? People who actually respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights? People who understand how important freedom of religion really is to the fundamental character of American society? Let me put this as clearly as I can, Ron. Your vision of America is treasonous. You are no patriot, you are an enemy of the American experiment. The next time you accuse Obama of doing violence to the Constitution I hope you turn into a pillar of salt, or get devoured by locusts, or suffer some other suitably Biblical calamity, as punishment for your hypocrisy. You are no better than the Taliban, it seems to me. Certainly you are no American. Don Touched a nerve, huh. 1. You are trying to pick apart a non-existent argument. Therefore, I have no response. 2. "You people" are those without faith and apparently a very limited imagination. 3. When did you swear an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution? I did on 25 Oct 1960. 4. IMO, liberals are just very angry people. 5. It is going to be a beautiful weekend. Enjoy it and stay out of the Atlanta area. From the news this morning the natives are violently restless. I heard on NPR this morning a report about how establishment Evangelicals are realizing how their particular brand of Christianity has been hijacked. Okay, that was my interpretation. It's the establishment folks who now want to be called something else, so they won't be associated with the new "Evangelicals" who are rallying behind Trump -- a bigot, bully, "divorced three times," club owner, drinker, etc. They're realizing that those new converts who are subscribing to the title actually espouse "values" counter to what the establishment E's have been preaching. Last comment in the report: the Evangelical population is realizing they're much smaller than they thought. Well, at least one good thing has come from the Trump phenomenon: establishment Evangelicals have been forced to acknowledge that some segments of their population are not what they think, and are making moves to disassociate from them. What has become even more evident to me is the separation of Christian faith and democratic government. There was a strong movement in the '80s to elect Christians to office. I believe that it was some vague notion that we, in America, could establish the theocratic government that Jesus Christ would lead when He returns following the Tribulation. What is fact is that Christians realize the government is a cartel of power brokers. We have now created a stampede of socialist cattle headed for slaughter. We need a power broker to turn the lead before everyone is ground into hamburger for the elite. Christians realize that refusing to vote for Romney was a mistake. He was a Mormon and we could not separate faith from government. Now we want somebody to stop the complete liberal socialist takeover of America. It appears at this point that Trump has the cajones to make it happen. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. What definition of psychopathic behavior are you using? The following are a couple of articles from Psychology Today. I tried to find the one on top level executives with psychopathic tendencies but did not. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/mindmelding/201301/what-is-psychopath-0 https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/wicked-deeds/201401/how-tell-sociopath-psychopath Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Sociopathy is not a prerequisite for psychopathy. They are two different aspects of psychology. Given they can both be present in an individual. IMO, Trump is the latter but not the former. Psychopathic behavior is common among the major CEOs and politicians. It is a factor of success. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Donald Trump

So he's a bigoted, self promoting windbag, lying charlatan. Absolutely none of this matters to his core supporters. A predictable reaction to BHO, same/same, different party. You missed one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_(geometry) Not sure how to apply that normal to human behavior. My point is this, if it is someone's job to assess another as needing psychiatric treatment, it is easy to do. My job was to admit patients, voluntarily or course, to the unit. Very few that made it to my office made it back to the street without a rest in our locked unit. If a patient reacted negatively and acted out the admission became involuntary for a minimum of 72 hours. Do you know how to remove a psychiatric diagnosis from your medical records? Do you think mental health screening for veterans is wrong, or just dangerous? It seems like a good idea to me, given the high rates of suicide for them and the call from veterans organizations for more mental health services. There are three types of normal: 1. Statistical; the mean, mode and median 2. Moral 3. Concept of self Which of those three do you feel comfortable in giving the federal government the power to assess in your life. That is a moot question because you don't live in the U.S. Gun rights in only one aspect of the consequences. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Veterans are already experiencing some of this type of assessment at the VA. http://thenewamerican.com/usnews/health-care/item/22620-feds-seek-mental-health-testing-of-all-children-adults?AID=7236 I was at one time employed as an assessment counselor for a psych hospital. Usually, in 30 minutes I could document enough evidence to justify a provisional diagnosis for admission. Remember, it is a business and the government controls it. Are you Americans crazy enough to put Donald Trump in office?
RonD1120 replied to 434's topic in Speakers Corner
Yeah, I thought it was part of the point, not racist. I was telling yoink that his idea was tried before and eventually outlawed. Only one type harder to deal with than a racist personality. That is a politically correct one. BTW, the expression was very common in the '50s and '60s in my area. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. I started rethinking your plan on the way to the dump yesterday. I believe you may be on to something. If we make voters pass a written test to get a registration card . . . . Rest of post deleted. From the rules: Posts that contain material that we deem to be blatantly or unnecessarily racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, pornographic, or otherwise offensive, may be removed. While discussion of certain social and political issues may require the use of sensitive or potentially offensive terms, outside of those limited contexts the use of such terms is not allowed on this board and may be removed. Consider this your one warning. Well I'll be damned. It seems to be within the rules to me. OK, have a good day. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit.
