a good friend of mine did a one-off static line jump on a round canopy years ago - in passing I mentioned to my friends that it was something that i'd like to do. Nothing more was said of it. 2 years later all my mates got together and bought me a jump course for my 21st. Coolest present I ever got ....

all the time bar one... gotta do it in the UK, but just for a change abroad it was kinda cool to jump without one, but I wouldn't like to make it a habit...

You know, for all the jokes we make about whuffos, one of the commonalities in this thread is that loads of people, be they poachers, swamp agricultural workers or even normal people, all seem happy to give a stranded jumper a hand. Nice of them really... (I know there are the other sort, but I just thought we didn't often say nice things about whuffos on here)

8 way tracking dive I think... we got out in the wrong place, tracked the wrong way... basically did everything possible to screw it up ... oops... there was a bit of haze about and on opening all you could see were the other canopies doing slow spirals going "bloody hell.... where's ther dz???" The answer? About 5 miles thataway! talk about a bad spot Landed by the main road and just kinda hung around looking embarrased.... D'oh...

Calling UK - newbie needs help!
yoink replied to purplekittenUK's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The other option is going abroad to do AFF with UK instructors... every so often dz's have a boogie abroad and I think this would be great for you. This means that if for whatever reason you don't complete you AFF abroad, you can continue it back here in the UK -

I was thinking about posting something along these lines earlier in respect to the murder in the UK... last weekend I was jumping borrowed gear (Spectre 170 - low wing loading) and on opening had a right break fire and 2 1/2 twists... I lost the best part of 1000 ft spiralling on my back before I sorted it all out. Previous to this murder inquiry, I would have considered chopping the main, but I remember thinking "at least the main is still attached to my shoulders... stick with it..." In the end I sorted it and landed safely, but was wondering if anyone else has unconsiously or consiously altered their reserve procedures in light of recent events... This isn't a pull / don't pull your reserve risers on flightline check argument (I had done anyway) Will

Hey Sam, Drop the BCPA a line - that's what they're there for. We've got loads of clubs that have started up recently at unis across britain as well as loads of contacts with people who have done it successfully at big places like Leeds, Manchester and UWE... We working on BUSA affiliation at the moment which will (hopefully) make it loads easier to start up a club at uni. Feel free to drop me a PM, or contact Iain from the bcpa website. The worst has to be the first lift... you're sooooo hungover you're not sure whether to puke or die, and then someone does the dirtiest fart ever on the way up... adds misery to your already uncomfortable stature...

it's probably safe enough to mention that you skydive during an interview - if the interviewer decides not to employ you and you feel that it is due to the mention of skydiving rather than any other legitimate reasons, then you would have a good case for a discrimination lawsuit. (In the UK anyway... probably in the US as well since everyone seems to sue everybody over anything ). If you went ahead with that, you could show that it is discrimination against a group of people and as such would come under racism legalities... I've just completed an HR masters degree and we did interview techniques in it, and if anyone asks at interview what I do during my spare time, you can be sure that I'll give 'em a little grin and say "I jump out of perfectly good airplanes..."

Do you have any of this CRAP laying around in your house?

any number of movie stubs... they tend to stay in my wallet. Any in particular you want -
You could do specials on how to cook good meals with a microwave, a coffee pot and a hot-plate, since that's about all you can have in dorm rooms. (Some don't allow the hot-plate, actually). Oh, and see if you can keep the meal cost WAY down. Something like $5 or less. That would be a big hit over here, atleast I know it would be on my campus --------------------------------------------------------- there'd be specials on how to impress the ladies / guys on £5, how to shop cheaply, stuff like that...

when you say food, does this include the late night runs to bob's dinner after drinking for 4 hours? and if so, does what we consume on beer while we eat count, and if that does, does our drinking activities count as well? ---------------------------------------------------------- lol... I get the point... I'll give you a bit of background... a recent survey over here stated that 90% of students don't know how to cook a piece of toast, let alone anything like a proper meal I'm a keen cook and have been asked to put together a proposal for a TV program aimed at students and just wanted to know what kind of budget other people had at uni... The demographic differences (if any) between the states and the UK is just a matter of interest.... cheers Will

I was kinda looking for how much money you spend to eat per week... not sure how meal tickets work... thanks will
