Great film! I got bought this for my birthday last year. It's also one of the most quotable films of all time!

Why on Earth would you call a High Performance canopy "Undertaker"

Regardless of how it flies, it does look very cool as it opens with that graphic on it. -
anyone's got a spare 50$ for our friend Sangi!?

This is comedy gold. Yeah! Fuck those guys that are trying to keep you safe! Just like you were trying to do with Sangi... oh. Wait. Hey, Sangi! This is exactly how rediculous you sounded! -

Safire - the Katana was white IIRC. -

Has he seen this thread, and Bills offer of $200 to you if you upsize? What does he think of that? -

That comes across as a fairly twisted question... Why would you want anyone to see it? Are you asking because you want to watch it? There's absolutely nothing to learn from it. Too much attempted without enough experience. Turned too low, didn't dig out in time and the results are in the pictures. 1+1=2. It's not rocket science. Newbies could watch all the bounce videos in the world and they'd still be convinced it couldn't happen to them. -

Glad you're alive to say that. It takes some people tougher lessons than others. You're on the mend though, and that's what matters. NEVER forget what you're feeling at the moment. It'll make you a better jumper when you do return. If you need to, write a couple of pages in your logbook now about how much it sucks and how much pain you're in and how foolish you're feeling... You can read back to yourself in 2 or 3 years when you're starting to think about small canopies again to provide a personal point of reference - it's really useful. Now, tell it to VirginBurner - he saved your life. Do the same for him. Edit: By the way - I think you owe me beer for your bounce bingo. -

Pretty certain Sangi said something like that too... Absolutely certain Sangi said this, almost verbatim. Pot. Meet kettle. -
I find that super complicated handshakes and rituals before exit often make up for the lack of piercings. Only when combined with matching gear, obviously.

Please let this happen!

Maybe this guy? I forgot I posted that! Where's my ? and in case anyone missed it, a quote from Sangi on that thread: THAT's what he needs to unfuck. Not an apology, not a promise to do better. I honestly don't care about any of that. Everyone said he'd bounce, and he did. Move on. He needs to sort his fucking attitude out. As long as he believes he's any different to the million skydivers who came before him, then he'll go back to doing the same thing and you know what? The outcome will be exactly the same in another 5 years. I guarantee it. -

Just so we're clear, Sangi needs his own Incidents thread - just as people have been saying would would happen for about a year. Who won the bounce bingo? Lest some of you think I'm heartless, I'm pretty certain that Sangi won't learn from this - maybe some other upcoming Skygod will. -

Thank you for being a rat. You may have saved the guy's life. I'd call that a save - he owes you a bottle. He'd be dead if he was under the Katana. Remi - no bet. That's a dead cert. -
Why remove your alti? Why not just not look at it?

Here's an interior shot of one of those! Cool aircraft! John - yeah, down in sunny San Diego.

I went to the Del Mar airshow over the weekend and grabbed a few photos, including the infamous AN-2. It was hot, noisy, but good fun. The formation flying done by the Blue Angels was super impressive - those guys may have the best job in the world. The big transport planes they had there are FREAKIN' HUGE. The photos don't do them justice.

Running downwind and keeping the thing kited would be a bitch in anything but the smallest breeze. You could tack on a little brake to keep it from overflying you, but then you've basically got a giant airbrake at 45 degrees behind you. I can see that getting knackering fast! Plus if you're using your arms to steer the wing, they're not available to help you run - not having done any distance stuff, I can't guess how much more difficult that would make it. Other than that, I wouldn't fancy all the snag hazards of running in a street, as well as all the crap on the ground that might get on your rig if it collapses -oil, dog crap etc... Probably not the best idea, but if you do try, get video!

That swooping is fucking awful. -
There are so many strawman arguments in your post that it's difficult to keep track of them all! You want to be sure that you're jumping gear that you packed yourself? Pack the 230 yourself then. Shouldn't be a driving reason to switch gear. All canopies react to changing wind conditions - yup, bigger ones with a lighter wingloading may limit your ability to jump when the winds are honking, but who wants to come straight down anyway? Learning to fly a really good pattern despite the wind conditions will make you a better pilot. The fact that you may have a longer walk back to the packing shed shouldn't be a driving reason to switch gear. A 170 will not necessarily be easier to pack than a 280. In fact, a new canopy will be a LOT more difficult to pack than a regularly jumped canopy. Get taught how to deal with the larger fabric of a 230 and practice... That'll make everything easier to pack. Not only that, but smaller canopies are much less forgiving of packing errors. Again, this shouldn't be a driving reason to downsize. Smaller containers are more comfortable? ANY container that is built for you will be more comfortable, regardless of size. This is a daft reasonto consider changing your gear. Lets be honest. You've gotten to a stage in your skydiving career when you've decided you want your own gear - that's great. You don't need a reason for that!

Welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! for other SL instructors - that's the first time I've ever seen outside video done on a SL. It didn't look to me like it was much more useful than the instructor wearing a camera helmet, and seems to add potential complications to the jump. I know from going through it that a video debrief is a really valuable tool for a SL student - any thoughts on the best way to video them?

Blacklisting skydivers [was: hard impact at nationals]

Interesting, that's one of the points "topdocker" tried to make in post #160, and a couple of people jumped all over him. Maybe this is a good point. I think it is. I don't see that. The owner of the database doesn't necesssarily have to be responsible for the data in there if it's written by someone else. The DZOs would each have a login and this is tagged to each entry they make in the database by default. In the event of a dispute they're the ones making the call and presumably have the reasons typed out there for all to see. Noone is suggesting it's a single 'ban this guy!' field. Transparency would have to be a big part of it though. You (the USPA) could also protect yourself by having developed a process by which you can get downgraded if you find yourself on the database, and have that mailed to anyone who ends up on it - sort of like a Driving Course for 1st time motoring offenses. There are dozens of ways to counter it. Fear of litigation is a poor reason to not try and stop dangerous skydiving.
