    air sports

I've done a bit of hang-gliding and I really loved it. Unfortunately it came down to having to choose between it and skydiving and skydiving won. If I had the time I'd definately pick it up again, it's totally different to skydiving but still pretty cool. I just love being up in the air and hang-gliding is about as close as you can get to actually flying. Gus
  2. Hey Joolee, I was at the Christmas boogie aswell, had an awesome time. When were you there? Did you miss the rain? Gus

    does it exist ?

This place you're looking for, I think it's called Heaven. You should find your Liz Hurley packer waiting there for you too! Gus

    fall rate

Christmas 2000 in Empuriabrava. To be fair the other 6 days were mint and I wasn't forced to actually talk to my fast-falling friend too much (I'm only playing). Should be back there over the summer if things go to plan. Gus

    fall rate

I have a 'friend' who has this problem. Because of my inherent skills and general all round goodness I've got used to how fast he falls but others often comment on what a fat f*** he is. This friend of yours that has to wear lead, you should definately give him some slack. Perhaps you should be pleased that someone is willing to risk their safety/sanity and jump with you at all. My sympathies to anyone that has had to spend 4 days solid with you trapped on a Spanish airfield, knee deep in water and gale force winds. A baggy suit might help my friend but perhaps he should start with laying off the Mars Bars for breakfast. Alternatively he could get on with some work and stop arsing about on the Internet. Just a couple of thoughts really. Gus
  7. I get a huge buzz just walking past vending machines, man those things are RADICAL! Perhaps I'll make it to Junk Day one time and ride a vending machine out the back of a skyvan, that would rock. 84% of statistics are made up on the spot. Gus
  8. That sounds like Ric "look at me hit 150mph as I de-arch as hard as I can" Kent. If I snap my spine trying to keep up you can expect to pay for my medical bills! As for the troll, I HOOK TURN ON YO ASS! LOL! Gus

    fun 2-ways

Hi guys, Has anyone out there got some good ideas for fun 2-ways? Before you all get started they can't involve any sexual content (I know what you're like) 'cos it's for me and my mate Ric. We end up jumping together quite alot and whilst I do enjoy falling down the tube for 10k and geeking at each other there must be more to it than that! What about cool exits? I've done tubes, what else works well for 2 people? Neither of us can really freefly (yet) so belly stuff only please. Peace, Gus

    The Let's back

That's totally sweet - good, good news. I love the Let, having that big ol' door is always fun and Leonid is cool. Should make it down this week some time, see you all there. Gus
  12. Good work fella, what about: Q: Are there ever any days when you lie in bed and really wish you didn't have to get up and go to 'work' today? Gus

    Kids Jumping

I got this from Dave Morris' site, one of my old instructors and a very cool bloke. He's jumping tandem with his daughter who I think was 12 (???) at the time, over in Spain. http://www.daleside2.demon.co.uk/" target="_new">Dave Morris' site, one of my old instructors and a very cool bloke. 16. That sounds like an awesome idea. It's just started to clear up around here but I don't have a car so I'd never get to the DZ in time. Even a month living at a warm, sunny, busy DZ in the states would be like a dream come true.....ahhhhhh. Hey, it looks like I'm about to move to Guilford. It says on you're profile that you're in London, where do you jump? Is it good? Keep that dream alive, it would probably the best 6 months of your life - it would be mine away! Gus

    toy parachutes

Okay, this is where it's at: http://www.airfoilaviation.com Fuel powered motors, 40 minutes flight time..... I have to have one. I've got a school playground about 20m from my back garden, just a problem of finding the £££s! Gus

    toy parachutes

Gutted, someone's already done it! It looks pretty neat but it reckons a running time of 6-7 minutes, which is kinda crap. I'm sure it could be modified though, it does look like fun! Cheers Craig, Gus

    toy parachutes

Cheers for the posts, As a teaching aid? Well I'm a few jumps short of being an instructor (875 short of 1000 to be accurate) so it would literally be as a toy. I was thinking of making a radio controlled 'powered parachute', I thought that with a little fan on the back for airspeed and motors/servos to control the brake lines you could fly it like a model plane. The difficult bit would be making the actual canopy, so I either need some plans to follow (so I get the angle of attack, aspect ratio etc right) or I need to buy one. And I don't think asking PD for a minature Spectre is within my budget! Any cunning ideas? Gus

    toy parachutes

Hi, Does anyone know where I can but a toy square parachute? I've looked around but all the ones I've seen are round, even the otherwise very funky Action Man Skydiver! Alternatively, has anyone ever made one? Or does anyone have any detailed schematics for manufacturing a square parachute? Cheers, Gus

    Do I owe beer?

Shit, I think I'd be getting them to buy me beer as penalty for providing a dangerous plane! Yikes, 16 stitches - how long before you can jump again? Get well soon! Gus
  22. Hey Allan, I have a feeling we met last time you were back on dry land. Big congrats on getting your 'A', grab me next time you're about and we'll jump together if you like. Don't they have helicopters on these oil platforms? They must be big enough to land your parachute on, worst case scenario the scuba guys can fish you out of the water! Gus (you should be able to see my picture by clicking on my name)
  23. From a post on rec.skydiving http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/volusia/orl-vol-dive-041401.story?coll=orl-home-headlines Please be careful out there, Gus
  24. Hi guys, If anyone is interested I've almost finished writing an online skydiving logbook for part of my Computer Science course at uni. There should be a link to the lastest prototype at the bottom of the page at http://lauda.cs.nott.ac.uk Unfortunately I can't leave it there for long since I graduate soon but if anyone wants the ASP files I'd be happy to send them. One of the major functions won't be working until next week but you can see what it produces at http://members.tripod.co.uk/gusbrown/gallery/svggraph.jpg All the help files should be up, I'd appretiate any feedback. Gus
