Right - a few thousand dollars compared to how many million did Fox give to the Republicans?
-
That might have been a viable option at one point, but GWB has burned out the name for at least a generation. You greatly overestimate the long term memory of the American people. Just look at the results of this election for example.

Jeb Bush.

The figures were in the neighboorhood of 20300 to 22800 That is pretty substancial. Are you certain you weren't hallucinating? Nevada results are still not posted anywhere. The exit polls have it a dead heat. Don't expect a result till tomorrow morning, if we're lucky. Now that actual results are coming in, you might want to rethink that. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2010/results/individual/#mapSNV Okay, Mr. Literal, I guess I should have said "don't expect a final result until tomorrow morning."

We need an election system where the citizens get a yes/no vote on every candidate; - If a candidate gets more "no" votes than "yes" votes, he loses, even if he had the most "yes" votes. - If all candidates get more "no" than "yes" votes, a new election must be held. Sounds like the prescription for a nasty infinite loop.

Only if you're the one keeping score. Wendy P. it might make americans mad , but , maine looking to score.. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/maine-city-considers-giving-non-u-s-citizens-voting-rights/ Non-citizen voting is nothing new. But wait, that's only according to that left wing Wikipedia website. Better fact check it with NewsMax.

Come on man You know if it is not a liberal rag Like Wikipedia? thank you , like my dentist says , sometimes the tooth hurts ! Well I suppose if you start with Fox News as your "neutral" source.

And that's different from present day absentee ballots - how? The only difference is how the voters get their ballot forms. I have greater confidence that my standardize absentee ballot will be correctly scanned. Why? Your standardized ballots will probably be printed in much the same way. Moreover, there would undoubtedly be a barcode to disambiguate any printing variants. It's fairly simple to associate each ballot with a unique registration ID (that's also integrated into the barcode). Copies would be spotted immediately. Why do you say that? And would you say the same about the Republicans? BTW, getting back to the original topic, both Schumer and the Justice Department are trying to resolve the issue so that the military vote can be fairly counted.

well, that option does present a couple concerns- ballot stuffing, and inconsistency in the ballots that make them unreadable. All of which would be an order of magnitude less difficult to manage than full fledged e-voting. Seems to me a reasonable intermediate step. There's no doubt that it would be a cost saver. how much does a stolen election cost? true e-voting could at least be verifiable - you could look up your ballot. With this - you mail it in and hope. The logistics of the men and women in the field being allowed to excersize their constitutional (God Given) rights by a guy walking around with a sattelite uplinked laptop ballot box? nooo - I don't see ANY problems there. Not too good with reading followup posts, are we?
-
there are ways it can be done. But thanks to the tendency to use a closed, private, and poorly secured Diebold, I'm not in favor of pushing the subject right now. I'd rather see the bsd folks hash it out and let the security guys bash on it for a few years. I'm not talking about electronic voting - it's understandable that that's a big step with all kinds of IT security issues. But why not just make the ballots themselves available for people to print out, mark their vote, and mail in? It would save millions in taxpayer money compared to the present state of having to mail them out individually.
-
My bad. I'm just surprised they can't do the whole thing (eligibility form plus ballot itself) electronically. It's such an unnecessary expense to have to mail out millions of ballots in today's age.

All they need is access to the Internet: http://www.elections.state.ny.us/NYSBOE/download/voting/Absentee06152010.pdf

http://www.loopnet.com/Listing/16796155/190-Paraclete-Dr-Raeford-NC/ $30M sounds kind of steep - from what I hear, the smaller tunnels come out under $10M. That's a big nut to have to carry even at current interest rates.

Exactly! Not to mention that the one mention of the mosque on Fox News back then was a distinctly positive one. Could there be any more convincing evidence that this whole "controversy" was completely ginned up for political purposes?

Dude, it's a little different when a lot of us happen to know the guy who put the series together (Joao Tambor) and whose pocket you would be picking with your request. Well, it's always gonna be someone's pocket that's being "picked" whether you know them or not. If I were in the market for a mountain bike and you had an old one for sale, wouldn't that be denying the bike maker a new sale? What about any used item that a person no longer wants? Not a valid comparison. Only one person at a time can use a mountain bike or any physical item. At any one time, all the items in use must have been sold from the manufacturer at one time. By contrast, you can copy a single DVD many different times and distribute it. If everyone did what you do, the manufacturer would only get compensated for a small handful of sales.

And such immature piling-on behavior like that is another reason why these threads so often become worthless. Still waiting to hear why the NYC Muslims need to compromise, when you would never suggest that gun owners compromise with the Mayor and the Brady group there or in Chicago. Jon Stewart had a great take on that analogy at 7:02 of this video.
-
Interesting you should bring that up. Because there's one thing that all the rabid opponents of the GZ mosque/YMCA might not know about its founder. After Daniel Pearl was murdered by al Qaeda back in 2003, Imam Feisal attended his memorial and made a moving and, in many respects, courageous speech. In one part, he said: So everyone who wants to smear this guy after the fact to suit their own political agenda, should think about the guts it takes for a prominent Muslim to assert "I am a Jew" at a service for a Jewish man brutally killed by the jihadists, just one year after 9/11.
