  1. Do what now? Responsibility in regards to carrying a weapon is only drawing the weapon in a deadly force scenario. Drawing your weapon in situations outside of a deadly force scenario is a prime example of a lack of maturity and a lack of responsibility. In your opinion, was this a "deadly force scenario" then?
  2. Responsible gun ownership should include the ability to deter a crime by showing your gun and only firing it when absolutely necessary.
  3. Apparently, the wife was convicted and got a five year sentence: http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wfaa/latestnews/stories/wfaa080505_wz_roberson.cf4900fe.html
  4. You do know this is a world-wide economic crisis, don't you? It seems to be affecting all countries regardless of their tax policies.
  5. Why? Because that's what you believe? Morality IS personal. He has his morality, you have yours, I have mine. It's trying to impose your morality on someone else that leads to problems. This is a misuse of the word "morality". Morality deals with true right and wrong and is pretty much universal. It's not a matter of personal opinion that killing innocent children or conning the elderly out of their life savings is wrong. The problem is that many religious types insist that sexual preference is a matter of morality. It is not and we should not buy into their view.
  6. You realize of course that religion can be justified in much the same way. It provides a socializing force for humanity as well as a coping mechanism for the harsh realities of mortal life. As such, it can benefit us as well as promote the survival of our species.
  7. Please let us know which presidential candidate in the past 50 years hasn't had a big ego. Seriously? Possibly Ford. Sure. The only one never actually elected. At least 50% of the candidates were not elected. Is nitpickery a word?

  9. Nope. Being married has a religious meaning to a religious person. Being married does not have a religious meaning to a non religious person. Disagree So you think if two atheists get married in a civil court somehow there's religious significance to that? Please explain.
  10. Forgive me, but I don't understand how that is different from what happens currently? As John pointed out, how much time did either candidate spend in Vermont, Rhode Island or Wyoming? They campaign where they will get the most bang for their buck and concentrate on 'swing' states - abolish the EC and nobody outside of NY, Cali, Illinois and Texas would ever see a candidate. (hint: look at the 10 most populous cities in the US) Exactly. And guess what? In order to abolish the EC, you need a Constitutional amendment and to do that you need to get 38 of 50 states to sign on. Never going to happen.
  11. I'm very well aware of the scientific method, and you might like to note i have not made reference to anyones religion. Other than to say that We as scientist work from a basis of FAITH. Faith that what we believe to be true based on evidence that we gather and tested with principles that we developed. All of these things are said by us to be true or factual because we have FAITH that our methods and reasoning is correct and true. No argument there. However, there is a distinction between having faith in what is observable and testable by the 5 senses and having faith without similar evidence. You can't live without having a certain amount of faith in what you can directly perceive. But you certainly can live without believing in a book that's thousands of years old or a deity that can not be directly observed.
  12. That's not really the whole story. Those who believe in science also believe in the scientific method: It is the skeptical testing of all beliefs against observable phenomena that gives science its authority over other means of explaining reality. There is no corresponding discipline for testing hypotheses when it comes to religious belief. That's a fundamental difference.
  13. In a way, Obama owes a debt to Jackson. It showed him what not to do to get elected.
  14. If you go back far enough, everyone has mixed race. The key thing is that we elected a president who 200 years ago would have been a slave. And that's something to be proud of.
  15. It's tradition. Obama is a Christian that has been documented in somewhat painful detail. There would be nothing hypocritical at all about him swearing in on the Bible. That said, there is no legal reason to do so. It's not required and in fact, fortunately, our Constitution specifically prohibits it from being required, but it doesn't rule it out either. Well, with the government saying who can and can't get married, they are not too separated from the church. The critical part is when the government says who can't get married. Once they stop doing that, the rest will take care of itself.
  16. Senator Obama is lying to you. The growth of the 90s pales in comparison to the 80s and 00s. Easily verified here: http://www.econstats.com/gdp/gdp__q10.htm There's a difference between responsible economic growth and growth that occurs by mortgaging our future generations. How about comparing the impact on the debt between the 80s, 90s, and 00s? Here's a graphic that might help. If you notice, under Clinton, the debt actually went down as a percentage of the GDP. Contrast that to the 80s, when the debt exploded by that same measure and the 00s, when the debt doubled from 5T to 10T. It's a lot easier to show economic growth when you transfer all the bills to your grandchildren.
  17. Bottom line:Obama will be restoring taxes to the levels they were during Clinton's termIf that rate of taxes was so bad for business, why did we experience one of the greatest economic booms in history during the 90s?Quit yer whining.
  18. And that's different from Keith Olbermann, how?
  19. I suppose that means Fox News reporters are still on the plane, right? They would certainly mention it if they had been booted.
  20. Did anyone ask before now? I have no idea. Do you?
  21. LOL. Now I have Copacabana stuck in my head. It's sad that the first thing that pops into my head when I see the name Barry is Barry Manilow. Or Barry Goldwater.
  22. I agree, it is suspicious that they haven't released the tape and only months later are claiming they're not doing it because of an agreement with the source. Unfortunately, this all falls squarely in the camp of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". After so much time spent by the anti-Obama crowd over Ayers, Wright, Farrakhan, and the rest, people are just fed up.
