  1. Even so, she's a sweetie who always has that shiny coat, no matter how little her daddy bathes her. Oh, and I don't mind if she breaks wind occasionally...but then again, I don't have a sense of smell. Sapphire is a sweetheart, just so you all know. 2. Man...I need to move back home for good. I miss out on ALL the cool stuff out there. Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school.
  3. I wanted to thank everyone at the Perris DZ and wind tunnel for a wonderful vacation visit. My sweetheart and I were treated as if we not only belonged there, but had been jumping there for eons. The staff was amiable and outgoing, the facilities were immaculate and the jumpers were helpful and friendly. We had a great time and will definitely be back soon. To the staff and tunnel-campers at Skyventure Perris, we can safely recommend your kind staff and clean air to everyone we know. Oh! And I got to meet Melissa Nelson in person! So that was a bonus! I know we're relative nobodys, but we enjoyed our time there so much that we are already making plans to return as soon as possible. Thank you again to everyone out there for everything that made my first trip home in nearly ten years the most memorable one yet. We LOVED it there. We will most definitely be back soon. I have a larger version I rendered, but it's over 200MB. If that's not too much, send me the ftp info via PM, and I'll send it to you. Again, thanks to everyone who made our visit something we will never forget. And by everyone I mean EVERYONE. 5. I'm sure it's mainly because there's nothing even remotely interesting near me, but I find it fascinating that places like that and several "schools" I'm aware of for the military are quite visible, but my neighborhood is all blobbed out. give us time - video is being edited now.... Video editing is done, it's the upload precess to SDM that's giving us fits. We'll have it up there soon. 7. Lemme guess... you think formulaic cookie-cutter comedies are innovative and brilliant, right? Amen to standard-genre busting. 8. I have seen a certain team do this time and again in BAGHDAD. Granted............the area is fairly safe where they stopped for a pic but still. Seems awfully unprofessional. In the case of some celebrity in a safe place..........no big deal. I suppose that makes sense. We were always more concerned about repeat business an referrals. Our boss was of the mind that we weren't there as fans, even if we WERE fans. 9. I nearly choked on my lunch when I read cornholio's response. Those were great pics. I was always too shy and/or concerned about proprieties to ask for pics when I did that sort of work. 10. And Jump speaks for all six of us in this regard. If you didn't see it in the other AAC thread, we loved it there and will definintely be back. Thank you all for making us feel so comfortable. 12. Not to post to my own thread in a less than subtle attempt to bump it back up, but is there anything going on out at Perris or Elsinore the 5th through the 12th of November? We probably won't make it out to either DZ on the 5th, since we'll be newly arrived and doing the family reunion thing, but we may go out there on Sunday. We'd love to meet all the smiling and/or surly faces out there and have some fun. I thought I would post a quick note here and say what a wonderful time our group (RFI from Fayetteville) had at the tunnel this weekend. John and Dawn couldn't have been nicer if they tried, and everyone there, working or not, made the visit more than worthwhile. All we could talk about on the drive back was how we are definitely going to be coming back again and again. Steven, GREAT job on your first time in the tunnel. It was wonderful meeting you and getting to watch you fly. Dawn, LOVED your costume. I think the eyelashes were the icing on the cake.

  15. My sweetheart and I will be visiting my hometown (Riverside, CA) 5-12 Nov, and we'd like to meet up with local jumpers at both Perris (ten minutes from my house) and possibly Elsinore. We'd really love to see some of your smiling faces and make some jumps with you. We're not hard to miss. Just look for the pretty Asian girl with the shaved-head geek with the goatee as her sidekick. Hope to see some of you out there! The End . . . ?

My falconry sponsor, a great man with a real zest for life, once had a softball sized "mass" in his chest that he was pretty sure was going to be a last call. He kept on enjoying life and having fun, not really dwelling on the potential outcome of having that crap. Every day I'd go to see him and we'd laugh and joke and carry on. Then one day I went to visit him and he wasn't there...until later when he got home and said the mass was gone. The treatments were one thing, he said, but he felt it was family, friends and associates who cared enough to feed him positive energy every day that got him through. So, what's on your agenda for this weekend? 18. Dude, how many times do I have to remind you that even a well entrenched, post-whoring troll is still jsut that: a troll. 20. You know, you don't have to be a current member to submit a picture and wind up winning the prizes. In fact, for every person who submits a reasonable entry, one that looks like there was more than 5-10 minutes worth of effort put into it, we'll give you a name and postpone the two primary requirements for membership (jumping and partying with an SB member) until such time as you meet up with a fully initiated member. So come on! Let's see those talents shine! Sonic Beef is counting on you. 21. You can always email them to me. PM me and I'll send you the email address to send the picture to. I'd hate to exclude a picture because you couldn't post it here. Of course, you coudl always register for a free account at Sonic Beef.com and add it to the gallery with your name on it. I'll leave that choice up to you. 22. Our very own The Brander has proven yet again that talent in the ranks of the founding members of Sonic Beef is...well, RANK(ing). He has come up with a logo for Sonic Beef that we are truly fond of. Here's the dilemma: The prizes for this contest are for YOU, the above-average members (and potential FUTURE members) of Sonic Beef. We founding members don't want to flaunt our own talents and scarf up all the scrumptious prizes. Sure, when faced with no other choices for logo ideas, we'll go with our own kick-ass design, but we'd rather prove to the world what we already know: our membership is talented in more areas than beer swilling, gullet-stuffing and long-distance urination contests. So here's the plan: We're giving our current membership, and any potential members who sign up for a free account on Sonic Beef.com, the chance to win those prizes by designing a logo (that will be universally adopted by all current and future members) we can all be proud of and sport proudly on flags, banners, hats, t-shirts and boxer shorts. But knowing SOME of our members, we'd better opt for the darker colored boxers. The deadline for this project to be submitted for founding member consensus and approval is December 20th, 2004. Yes, I know the holiday season is upon us, but you can't tell me that you aren't going to have two hours of non-inebriated, comatose or otherwise occupied time between now and then. So let's see what you've got. Pass the word and tell all your friends about this contest. The prizes are still 1) a Sonic Beef winter beanie with your BEEF name embroidered on it; 2) a Sonic Beef t-shirt with your logo gracing the back and a smaller version in front on the left breast pocket area; 3)your BEEF fitted cap, if you haven't already gotten one yourself. If you have, we'll come up with a third prize that will approximate a value equal to the weight of an elephant on the moon...or something actually worth your time and effort. Here's the original idea of what we're loking for: We would like to have a comical looking cow, legs flailing straight up at an obscene angle (think belly-flying gelatin-cow) with a Peter Griffin (from Family Guy) side-smirk, goggles and rig. Maybe some of those squiggly movement lines showing the direction of the plummet. No copyright protected images please, only original artwork. If we have no other submissions by 12/20/04 to choose from, The Brander's logo will be the one we roll with and the prizes become property of the State, to be doled out to needy simians in third world countries. Chapter leaders and other remote members, chime in here to let people know who and where you are so they can seek you out for membership and logo ideas. Now get out there and show us what you're workin' with. 25. I know that in light of the way this thread has progressed, and how heated these types of discussions become on here even between people who respect and admire each other, it can seem as if everything that we don't agree with will come off as an attack. As some have stated previously, often the only way to get through some thick skulls is to take the paths we'd rather not HAVE to take. Having said that, and all personal feelings aside, several people posting toward the tail end of this thread have made some valid points that hit home with me. Knowing good BASE ethics, or showing that you can learn them, and actually practicing them are two different things. I mentioned initially on Sonic Beef that I thought that the video was initially posted with the intent to learn. I've since revised my opinion. Perhaps that did play some small part. Here's where it gets tough to try and distinguish between an attack and an observation. Some people need attention and constant affirmation of their life's course and they don't present the image that they care how they get that attention or affirmation. When it becomes so important to be heard/seen that you do things you have previously been advised against, time and time again, and your actions wind up creating problems for more people than just you and your immediate circle of acquaintances, it's time to stop trying to justify what you've done, listen to what the vast majority of people have said to you and humble yourself. And not just for a day, a week, a month. Humility is not a trait often found in BASE jumpers, I've noticed. The ones who are humble are rarely heard from in a negative light. People, especially newcomers to this activity like myself, who lack the ability to be humble and accept when we've made mistakes are not going to get very far in this sport...and perhaps that's for the best. Maybe once nobody will jump with you or take you with them or include you in any way, shape or form in their BASE activities, perhaps the lesson begins to germinate in the ol' brainsoil. There comes a time when people need to listen. Especially when everyone else is telling you you have a problem. Since, based on some posts in this thread, BASE interventions seem to have the potential to get a bit heavy handed, maybe understanding that trying to convince everyone else that THEY are the problem only makes you look even more guilty will help start the process of humility. I'm new to BASE. I have much to learn and am willing to take as much time as necessary, and then some, to make sure I do things right. If that means eating crow and then shutting my mouth and truly LISTENING while others tell me things I'd rather not hear, then so be it. This community is small enough, even globally, that word gets around fairly quickly. The more people you piss off, the less likely it is you'll have someone on your side when you really need them. Defending someone who proves on a regular basis, ground-bound or not, that they revel in being a problem child and touting what appears to be a severe lack of social skills, becomes tiresome. It becomes so tiresome that you can no longer defend that person. I'm tired.
