Not sure if serious... Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Intolerance masquerading as tolerance, courtesy of Elon University

Don't you just love institutes of higher learning that value the free exchange of ideas? Lame. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -
Meh, I don't believe he's wrong. For instance, do you think liberals would tolerate such ineptitude from a white president? Hell no. Edit: Just to clarify, people like a fresh new story. Politically inexperienced black man running for president? Hope-and-change yaaaay! Woman running for president? Gender equality! Latino running for president on the Republican ticket? What a novel idea! White guy running for president? zzzZZZzzz Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

One can only hope this will shake things up, but people there have been bending over and accepting whatever these misogynistic thugs give them for a looooong time. I don't see the murder of yet another female, regardless of her importance, having much of an effect. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

From the folks who do it best. Ms. Dash strayed from the plantation and must be brought to heel. Clicky. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Hail, Johnson. Edit: Oh yeah, the "why". Because he's libertarian and because he'd curbstomp both Obama and Romney at the debates--would be very entertaining. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Hah! Always beware of a headline phrased as a question--the article usually won't give you the answer. But, I guess it's not the nature of the evidence but the seriousness of the charges that counts these days. Derp. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

They're doing it already. With that exact goal in mind, actually, when you boil it down to the basics. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

If the extremists can dig up an obscure piece of trash on the Internet and use it as a reason (or so we're told) to incite riot and murder, I think their control over the masses is pretty much secured for the short term. Still, that's exactly why we couldn't implement my plan half-assed. It would have to be a very long-term PSYOP campaign. They have to see that their beliefs are open to parody and criticism just like anything else on this planet. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Saw this Onion article today and it got me wondering. What if, instead of walking on eggshells around the topics of Muhammad, Allah, etc., we completely saturate the media with every form of depraved religious parody we can think of? I really think those religious types who are prone to overreaction would simply be desensitized to it all after a while. Or at least run out of energy. Either way they'd quit making a fuss. Man, I don't know what you're even arguing right now. The best answer for this post, if I'm interpreting it correctly, is billvon's reply in post #3. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

It is just sloppiness with language. Bracket is the tax rate on the top income (actually top wage, there are lots of different brackets). The correct phrasing that we are looking at for Romney is "effective tax rate" Hmmm...so Romney claims he paid a certain tax rate, donates money to charity and is thus able to lower his tax rate, and people are crying foul over this? Is that really a wise angle to attack from? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

You really think Mitt "missed" some deductions? Or was he thinking it might look kind of bad being in the 9% bracket when he said he never paid less that 14%. It's not a stretch in the least. I've always thought brackets were determined pre-deduction. What sense would it make to measure it afterwards? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
