  1. Thanks to everyone for the ideas. It may end up a water rig. I'll let my rigger tell me what's best. Oh, I put about 1000 jumps on it, but I bought it used in 1994.
  2. My team is threatening to burn my old backup rig, a 1984 vector. Besides the fact that I bought it used, it has served me well. OK, so my landings aren't always great and it's a bit dusty after the years. Is there some risk to older gear? Would you burn it too?
  3. You might want to check out: www.EuroSwooop.com There's a competition this weekend.
  4. Learning even a little bit about CRW would help. I usually start people off with a Simon Says dive. Have two people with similar responding parachutes fly next to each other. One hits the front risers and stops. The other one watches and then repeats the maneuver. Next maneuver may be rear risers, and etc. I hope this helps.
  5. Landing on your rear can cause all kinds of back problems ___________________________________________ Hmmm.... I have found that sliding in your landing, on grass of course, really helps avoid a bad tumble. For a couple of months all I could do was slide. However, repeated slides while raising one previously broken ankle can cause some major touche bruises.
  6. Make sure you get a hard housing for your cutaway cable. Also, ask for spare room on the riser covers to handle those bulky CRW risers.
  7. Remko, you are right. I used the wrong word. We had talked about the plane descending, not being in a dive.
  8. I was also pleasantly surprised by the CASA exits. Whatever the pilot in the trail casa was doing, he was doing it right. I hadn't even been concerned when I switched over to the otter.... until the first opening. Yes, it does sound as if it would be better to exit when the plane is in a slight climb.
  9. THank you Remko! We had been having a conversation about opening shock. I had complained of hard openings, even seeing stars, jumping out of the otter at the record at Florida. In fact, I was surprised that my openings hurt more jumping out of an otter than a casa. He had mentioned that he had good openings when the plane was in a dive. I hate openings when the plane is in a dive, OUCH! And I do believe that the dive will have more of an impact if you are last out versus first out. I know I for one was trying to make a choice on every exit. Do I go for a quick opening, not as hard, and then work into a crazy dizzying spiral to get to down to the formation already built? I generally was taking 4-5 seconds and spiraling some. It seems that one of the things we need is to train jump pilots on exit trims for CRW exits. A good friend has left CRW because of hard openings. It's got to be an issue for more than just the two of us. Establishing the ideal exit trim would promote safety in the sport.
  10. We probably won't try to land it until we reach 100.
  11. Try: www.redlineCRW.com It's a bit dated.
