  3. its all making sense now..i sent these guys 2 emails letting them know i was gonna be in town and just asking basic questions about the DZ...I did not get one response from them...
  4. nahh, its a dz on the east coast. I was sooo looking to jumping over the ocean
  5. anybody ever heard of a DZ that only does tandems? Going on vacation next week and i just got off the phone with the closest DZ to where i am going. They apparently only do tandems, nothing else. They do not allow licensed skydivers to jump there...They are a small DZ in a vacation type town, but still, i find it amazing that they shut out all skydivers that may be passing through....
  6. i am a smoker to begin with but smoke like a fiend when at the dropzone...
  7. If you are serious about becoming a licensed skydiver then go straight to AFF. Why waste the money on a tandem? Unless you still arent sure about it. Most DZ's dont require you to do any tandems if you dont want to. At least that was the case 3-4 years ago, I never did one.
  8. I tore every single ligament in my knee last july 4th after a motorcycle accident..so bad the ACL was ripped completely off the bone along with all the other ligaments being completely destroyed...surgery, rehab, and all that fun stuff...needless to say i think the whole rehab process has caused additional problems, one being what i think is a torn meniscus in my other knee from favoring my bad one....i have been told the way to tell is whether or not you feel a pinching sensation on the inside of your knee and a sharp pain...that is generally the sign that it is torn.. Good luck!
  9. Sorry, I disgree. I have no responsibility for anybody but myself, my daughter and my family. Not trying to be an ass but that is a simple fact. Yes, I do believe in watching out for other peoples well being, but I am by no means RESPONSIBLE for anybody other than the people mentioned above. Please NEVER becme an instructor if you hold that view You are talking about something that is not relevant to this particular topic. If i am an instructor and it is my JOB to be responsible than that is a different story...,however, even instructors are only responsible to a certain degree..... once again, it is my opinion that everyone no matter what at the end of the day is responsible for their own actions. Maybe if more people realized this we wouldnt have idiots suing mcdonalds because they spilled hot coffee on themselves or because they turned into a fatass for eating to many quarter pounders...

  11. Well said. I agree. Hmm does that include the action of selling an inappropriate canopy to an inexperienced jumper? that, among other things, is exactly what the above comments were referring to
  12. First, in my circle of gun friends, guns should only ever be bought, not sold. But ignoring that... Nobody I know will sell a gun to someone they don't trust. And when they do trust someone they're selling a gun to, their statement to anyone who asks about the sale later is "I checked that he had a concealed pistol license, and that was good enough for me. I forget who it was exactly, though." Now, we wouldn't sell a rig to a whuffo without a second thought. The rigs even say things on them like "don't lend this to a whuffo or he'll go get hisself hurt or kilt!" We at least check that they have an "A" license in most cases. But there's no license for arbitrary canopies. So, what do we do? Actually I probably would sell a rig to a whuffo, the odds of them actually going to a dropzone and getting on a load are pretty thin...i'll take their money any day if they are willing to give it up.
  13. Does that mean if the same idiot runs over his neighbor with his new Ford Focus then the car salesman is morally responsible??? I dont believe so....There comes a point in time where people need to stop pointing fingers and eventually realize that everyone is responsible for their own actions.
  14. This is in response to one of the most recent incident posts...When i say responsible i mean is it their job to make sure the person who is buying their canopy is experienced enough to fly it.....curious as to what everyones thoughts are.... greenies...if this doesnt belong here please feel free to move it...
  15. I work 2 miles from Dulles. I am very curious to know what DZ this plane could have originated from. The closest DZ to Dulles that I know of is about 50 miles away..maybe a little more....Trying to figure out what the hell a jump plane would be doing in Dulles Airspace and where the hell it came from???
  16. We should force everyone because that is what the rules of becoming a US citizen mandate. If we enforced that we would not have to worry about the majority speaking spanish in 15 years. Because we do not enforce it your 15 year statement could very well become a reality.
  17. Like I have said before, I would never expect any foreign country to cater to me and my language. Secondly, I dont know of to many people who travel abroad and rely on ATM machines, that is crazy. That is what travelers cheques are for. If you find yourself in a foreign country with no cash and in need of an ATM then you have bigger problems then a language barrier.
  18. Fine, dont force people to learn the language, if that is going to be the case then lock them in their home and do not allow them to socialize or interact with the english speaking public. This will prevent them from getting jobs at fast food windows, screwing up my order and then acting as though I AM the idiot for not understanding what THEY are saying...its hard enough to understand somebody speaking english through those damn speakers, last thing i need when i am hankering for a wendys double is some non-english speaking idiot asking me to repeat my order 5 times....
  19. If i am traveling to a foreign country i may try and pick up on certain words but i sure as hell am not going to try and "learn the language". I would bet the majority of people who travel abroad do not know the language of the country they are traveling to, that does not mean you have to be stranded stateside and cannot venture to other countries. Visting is one thing, being a permanent resident is another. I would never expect people to cater to me in a non-english speaking country, however we have begin catering to people here. You said it perfect in your post "Its a two way street, you want to live and work in a foreign country then learn the language" That is the point of this entire thread.
  20. Why would most US Citizens do better in business if they learned Spanish? Maybe if they were selling ads for the Hispanic yellow pages, otherwise i dont see how it could possibly benefit them??? It might make someone a more well rounded person, but it sure as hell wont help in business unless you do business with that specific nationality...
  21. everytime i dial 411 and hear this it drives me freakin nuts....I think the proper options should be "To sign up for English lessons please press 1, if you cant understand this recording then you are just shit out of luck" Why oh why do we allow people to get away with not speaking English?? Damn ATM's too...I sure as hell am not getting pesos out of the money machine, why the hell would i want to see my options in spanish? Oh yeah, one other thing...being the lazy non-cooking person that i am i tend to frequent my neighborhood wendys quite often. ..and i'll tell you what...something just isnt right about that sign posted by the drive thru window...you know the one.."To help us serve you better please have your money ready at the window" How about having my FREAKING FOOD READY AT THE WINDOW!!! ok, i'm done....
  22. So, is Phil Jackson a good coach or does he just appear to be good because he has always had the baddest ass ball players playing for him? How can you not win games when you have MJ, Scottie Pippen, Kobe, and Shaquille on your teams??
