I was attempting to fly home today(long story) and was selected for the random search. They opened my carry-on suitcase which my rig was in, asked if it was a parachute and I said yes. They called over the supervisor, she said it was fine, the guy then looks at me with a straight face and says, "I'm going to need you to open this." I guess he saw the look of incredulity on my face, cause he quickly said, "just joking!" The 4 screeners in the area had lots of questions about skydiving in general, and were very professional and polite. Sorry you didn't have a similar experience, Tonto. Addie

same experience here....actually lost my protrack while skydiving (had it on the way to the plane, didn't have it when I got back to the hanger) and they gave me quite a good deal on a brand new one! Definitely went the extra mile for me.

ok, so wildcard has been telling me that this is such a good party....is it something I really can't miss? The cold doesn't sound like fun, but I'm sure the alchohol will help warm me up Should I go?

That's so funny, cause I was driving back from a concert tonight with a friend and I made him speed up so I could see if I knew the people in the car that had multiple skydiving stickers on it. Unfortunately, I didn't. Hey, were any of you at the Trans-Siberian orchestra concert tonight in VA? I agree, strange small community we are... Addie

Rachel et al, Skydive Orange is an awesome amazing place! I just moved to Arlington three months ago and began driving down to Skydive Orange every weekend. The people there have been so friendly and have really welcomed me into their group. I have been pleasantly surprised with their openness (read: they love to get naked by the fire ) and their welcoming spirit. In addition, so many of them have helped me improve my skydiving skills as well. I'm so pleased to have such a wonderful new DZ home! Addie

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Adrock replied to CornishChris's topic in The Bonfire
I agree with you that it is a great read. I actually picked it up because my brother is autistic and I was curious to see how it was written. Knowing what I do about autism and autistic behavior, it acutally seemed like it was pretty realistic. I recommend it to anyone! Addie -
0:0:0 silly clouds congrats on the icon vallerina, I'm still loving mine! Gotta get more of them out there. Addie

Wingsuit Landings on Comcast's "Fan"
Adrock replied to FlyinNover's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
for those who can't see the video...it's just a little 60 second thing talking about how they see being able to land a wingsuit sometime in the near future. Addie -
Hartwood Paracenter - What's the Scoop?
Adrock replied to weegegirl's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Yup, I'll agree with everyone here about Orange. I just moved out here two months ago and drive down from the DC area every weekend. Orange is a very cool and friendly dz! I did jump at Hartwood one weekend because it is closer for me, but there was only one other FFer there and the pace seemed a bit slow for me. Addie -
I'm so excited to see them. I've already bought tickets for when they come to DC on the 15th of December. I've only heard the CD, so especially after reading this thread I can't wait for the show. Addie

Very interesting thread. I have two stories I'd like to share that might contribute: 1) I went snowboarding earlier this year, and after falling numerous times on several runs, I became quite nervous on the lift up. The way I calmed myself was picturing the excitement right before getting out of the plane. Recalling the joy, not the fear, helped calm me down. 2) I used to jump at a small dz that did static line training out of a 182. Even with 200 jumps and little to no fear on a normal skydive, I still felt a little thrill of fear every time I heard an instructor telling a student to get out. You know, the "get your feet out and stop" "Get all the way out and hang" stuff. I found it interesting that I seemed to have been hard-wired to feel fear when I heard these words. Addie

Hmmm...bummer. I guess I'll just have to use all my vacation time travelling around to other DZs in Europe

I recently found out that I'll be in Athens for 2 years starting next August. Are there any dropzones near there at all? An internet search reveals only one up in the north, and not much information on that one. Anyone know? Thanks Addie
-
Anyone know any more info about registration, etc? I'll be driving from Kansas to DC that weekend, and would love to stop by for a day, but not if registration is cost-prohibitive. Do they have registration for just a day? Addie

Yeah, my bf and I tried to get on that show last year; we sent in the video with lotsa skydiving and running clips cause we didn't have much time to put it together. If we had more time we had this whole plan to stage a neato skydiving scene so they'd pick us. good luck

Shaun, I'm glad you're trying to relax a bit; it looked like you were pretty stressed out for a while after the dive. To be honest, that's one of the reasons I didn't even try to get in on the 8-way, I was worried that I would mess it up for everyone else. I guess that's why I've been freeflying(well, attempting!) more, because that just seems more low-stress to me. But we'll have to jump together this weekend at the boogie, freefly or rw, and just relax!! Addie

Yup, definitely a great book and, IMO, great sequels. But Children of the Mind definitely dragged and the ones that followed Ender's Shadow just got silly. I do think it's interesting that the screenplay for Ender's Game actually is combining Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. I wonder if they'll have it from both Bean and Ender's perspective? Addie

So, by my watch, you must be just about done, if you stayed the whole time Did ya flip off the boss on the way out? Addie
