  1. Why no casket? Not like it's any of my business how her family handles this but most funerals I have been to are in some place where people can gather together. Segregating the services might offend people who are not "chosen" to attend the real funeral and burial. With all due respect, I am sure her family has their reasons and during this time probably do not care all that much if they "offend" anyone. People can still honor her and say their goodbyes without a casket. RIP sweet girl, have fun flying with all of the skydivers who have gone before you. 2. or you received a phone call that you had to be on the sunset load... That's so funny, because it is exactly why I was speeding that day Usually my DZ is not open during the week but this particular week it was, so right after I got out of work, I figured that if I drove fast enough I could make the last load. I still ended up making it, which if I had known, I wouldn't have sped The DZ owner gave me her "speeding" speech when I got there which went something like "You fall 120 mph when you get here, isn't that fast enough? Do you really need to speed on the way up?" Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  3. Good idea, but I just wouldn't be able to get myself to say that in a courtroom Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  4. I have a hearing to appeal a speeding ticket today. I was doing 74 in a 55 mph and got pulled over. I did it and was going to pay it, but several people said to appeal it, because it is worth the chance they might dismiss it. So does anyone have any good ideas of what I can say or any experiences where you got yourself out of paying a ticket? Thanks in advance Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  5. Yes I am going to say the F word, I did my first CRW jump today and can I just say...."That was friggin awesome!!!!" This guy at my DZ found out I was doing a 7,000 ft hop n' pop to play with my canopy and asked if I wanted to do a little CRW. He has heard me mention in the past that I wanted to play around with someone under canopy to get a better idea of what mine was doing with something to relate to. Anyway, I said yes, but under no circumstance are you to touch me, but as the jump got closer I changed my mind and told him he could dock. Wow, was that one of the coolest experiences I have had. We got out, he came up beside me, probably about 40 feet away, and the visual was just amazing, him next to some big puffy clouds with blue above him and below him, I so wish I had stuck a camera in my jumpsuit, because that was just beautiful. So he gets below me and before I know it my feet are on top of his canopy, then my feet go a little in front and I touch his canopy. I will admit, got a little nervous at that point and was like "OK, that's enough" and he seperated, played a little beside me, then was gone. I am still smiling, can't wait to do it again!!! I am finally learning not say never in skydiving. I have done a lot of things I said I would "never" do, and this was one of them! Wow, what a great experience! Melissa Gray, if you read this, thanks for an amazing experience "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  6. Absolutely, I can not wait! Going to do my first birdman rodeo next weekend to get a little taste!
  7. The person on the bottom is holding on to the persons chest strap above them. When doing hybrids, you have people on their bellies, and people below them standing (feet down), they hold on to the chest strap of the people on their bellies. It is a type of dive that RW and freeflyers can do together. In the picture it looks as if the persons chest strap is undone, but it could also possibly be that they are grabbing the excess that you usually stow in the band, but not sure. The second scenario would not be too bad, but the first could potentially mean death to the person whose chest strap is undone. Either way, not a good situation Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  8. actually only one comes to mind "HOLYFUCKINGSHITFUCK!!!" wow how did he take care of that? My first thought would be to flip on my back and put that bastard back in super quick like!! How the hell did that person deal with that, I would be very interested to know? That picture just made my stomach turn. At our DZ, one of the owners is always standing at the gate on every load and looks at everyone's chest strap as they walk by, kind of a re-assuring thing, but when the day comes that mine is undone, I will probably turn around take myself off that load and take a while to sit and think about how I got so complacent. I do not get how someone forgets this is or does it the wrong way. When you don't route it correctly, it feels wrong. When I have done it wrong, I go to tighten it and it does not hold when I release it with my hand, how does one not notice this? Are some rigs set up differently that you can't tell it is not secure? Just curious, as I am about to order my new rig within the next month and was wondering if some are different in regards to this. Also if someone pointed something like this out for me, I would be so appreciative, can't imagine giving someone an attitude for saving my life. Click here: The Telegraph Online or if that does not come out as a link, here is the address http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040826/BUSINESS/208260326/-1/business I still have yet to be able to make these things a clicky, if someone could, I would appreciate it. I am so excited, we are goinng to have our own wind tunnel in New England, and I am going to be even more broke than I already am....but I'll be smiling!! 11. What he said! Your JM isn't going to let you out of the door by yourself unless he or she is sure you can get stable from an unstable position. When I first started I also got nervous doing different exits and even jumping from different types of planes. At some point in sunk in that it does not matter how you exit or what you exit from, you are 13,000 feet above the earth with plenty of time to get stable. The absolute best (most fun) exit I have had is out of a CASA, last out, stood right next to pilot and ran the whole length of the plane and just ran off the ramp. Did I go unstable,of course, but was stable within a few seconds. It was awesome, you should try it eventually. The only time you really need to worry about stable exits is on your Hop n Pops, but you have a few jumps to go before you get there. Have fun and relax! 12. Too bad chiropractic was not recommended to you, I bet you would have recovered a lot faster and would have more range of motion. It is never too late though, one of the things we do is restore motion to joints but you probably have some scar tissue as well in there which would probably respond to a combo of adjustments and deep muscle work to break up scar tissue. This, of course, is based on what limited info I have from you, but you should have it checked out. Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  13. WTF is that, Dude your wrong that's not even close to being funny or amussing Wow I can't believe I missed that the first time through the replies. That is one of the most disturbing and distasteful things I have ever read. Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  14. I can't believe how calm they were afterwards. Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  15. Yeah, tough choice, drive across sand filled desert or jump out of a plane right to your destination point. I definitely would have driven, skydiving is for crazy people!!!!! Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  16. It would have to be a tie between "The Little Mermaid" and "Tarzan" especially love the music in both of them. Being a Mom of a 5 year old, I have seen every one of those, several times.
  17. Go see a chirporactor who adjusts extremities as well as the spine. Surgery is drastic, but sometimes necessary. P.T. is used to strengthen after and injury has caused weakness. Chiropractic gets to the cause of the problem instead treating the symptoms. I have had several patients with shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle problems that have resolved with adjustments. Just my opinion, as a chiropractor of course Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  18. I will say one thing, I myself could never be a hunter, but with that said, I actually have more respect for those who hunt (as long as it is for food and not game) then those who walk into a grocery store and buy a nicely packaged piece of meat with no thought of what kind of suffering that animal went through to make that piece of meat. Not being a hunter, I am not sure why one would shoot a dog in this situation, could you explain? (hold the flames) At least you did the responsible thing after the fact. Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  19. ***Do I need to worry about these assholes trying to break into my house and steal my cat? I am really upset and I am wondering if I need to do something about this. *** I would send my cat to stay with a relative for a little while, especially if the cat is home alone during the day. This lady sounds like a freak, so you never know. Maybe borrow a watch dog for a week or so, maybe it will scare her off if she gets any ideas and comes back. A little drastic, I know, but people are weird sometime and I wouldn't put anything past them. Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  20. Yeah, probably a little too much info on that one, sorry. I have issues with that kind of stuff, I am not a tree hugging fanatic, but I love and respect animals and the thought of killing one really bothers me. Since it most likely was allowed to roam free, was it ever really a 'pet'? I tried to tell myself that, did not help much. I later called the people who came and got the cat and asked them if they had notified the owners, I think that is the first time they were asked that, cuz they acted like it was a strange question Melissa Again probably too much info, this feels like a little mini therapy session... LOL! "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  21. I had a few things make me smile today, but there is one that always stands out. There are two days a week I work late and when I am driving home from work (an hour commute at 7pm) I always call my son Mason to make sure I talk to him to in case he falls asleep before I get home. I smile the whole time I talk to him as he tells my about the day in his 5 year old life. But what makes me smile even more is that he fights to stay awake until I get home so he can cuddle and get a good night kiss from Mom. When I walk in, it is always the same, he gets soooo excited and runs to me and gives me the biggest hug and kiss. Nothing in my life has ever made me smile like that does and I doubt anything ever will.
  22. OMG!!! That is crazy, you either are very unlucky or need to slow down and pay a little more attention to the road. I am a vegetarian, don't eat or wear animals, and was very proud to say that I had never been directly responsible for any animals death until a few months ago. I was having a really really bad day, found out a friend of mine died two nights before, hadn't slept much and was driving to work so friggin exhausted. This cat ran right out in front of me and all I saw was white fur fly up in front of my car. I stopped about 50 feet ahead and looked back to see his body pasted to the ground and one paw reaching up. I friggin lost it, started crying and shaking uncontrollably, one of the worst experiences of my life. I took the appropriate actions to have the body picked up by the animal control people, but I had to go to the bathroom and cry many times that day. I kept thinking that I killed some little girl or boy's pet and that made me so sick inside. I still think about it once in a while and hope it never happens again. I think if I hit as many animals as you, I would probably stop driving Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  23. Knew that was coming! Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  24. Thanks for the info. I plan on ordering an audible sometime this week, you just made my decision a lot easier for me. I did ask two guys at my DZ which to buy, and they both said to buy the Neptune. When I asked why, they said because it can be used as a digital altimeter as well as an audible, but you went into a lot more detail. It also does not hurt that costs a little less than the other. My question is this, should I be concerned about the failure of this or any other audible? Are there reports out there on audible failure rates? I have not looked for threads on it yet, but I was wondering if you knew of any other place to look for this kind of information. Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
  25. I seem to remember hearing they discontinued the checkerboard. If I'm wrong please exuse me. I checked their website color program and I did not see a checkerboard option. I wish someone remembered which thread it was, it was such a cool looking rig, I wish I had saved it. Melissa "May the best of your past be the worst of your future"
