  1. At one point in history, AKA, 1947, "I was only following orders", was found to be an unacceptable defense for torture, murder and other war crimes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Trials The torture that was performed was illegal and the perpetrators should be prosecuted for their actions. In no way, shape or form is it legit to "write a legal memo" to allow that which is illegal. Those that were asked to perform illegal acts should have said NO. Those that followed illegal orders should be prosecuted, ALONG WITH those that gave the orders. Where are the righties on this one? I thought that y'all were true believers in the rule of law. Apparently not, based on how much you are defending the criminals.
  2. When are you fine folks going to be doing the "dirty sanchez" rally? How about the "golden showers" rally? The "teabaggers" rallies are pretty fucking funny. How did the rich resumlicans get you folks to stick up for them? Are righties really that easily led to act against their own best interests? Apparently so. In times of massive red ink, and the ongoing expense for the premeditated war of aggression, lowering taxes for the rich is REALLY stupid. We ALL should be paying higher taxes instead of borrowing money from China and whoever else is dumb enough to lend to us. If the tax cuts ARE ALLOWED TO EXPIRE ON SCHEDULE, the rich will still be paying 10% less than they were in 1980. Facts are really annoying. The last Democratic administration left the next administration a budget surplus. Shrubco pissed that away in the first year. Here's one for you - Did you know the word "gullible" is not in the dictionary?
  3. None of it. Their personal care is their business. I want politicians who think properly - I don't give a darn what they, or their wives, look like. I like people who are comfortable being themselves, whatever that might be. All of this fuss over changing her eyebrows so that she wouldn't look as "mean" is ridiculous. It shows that she, and America, are obsessed with appearances, rather than character. And that's a shame, because it shows that Americans are shallow and vain, and that Michelle is also, for pandering to the shallow and vain. Would you rather have someone who is pretty, but destroys your rights, or someone who is ugly, and protects them? I choose the latter. If you are so big on protecting rights, why did you support the worst president in HISTORY, no matter what he did? The torture, the extreme rendition, the NSA spying in collusion with AT&T, etc, etc. NOT A PEEP OUT OF YOU. NOTHING. Now all of a sudden the sky is falling because a smart black man who came up from nothing is president. You likely would have preferred the grumpy old white guy who can't control his temper in public and called his wife a cunt in front of reporters. The stench of hypocrisy from righties is nauseating...
  4. What you need access to is an OBDII code reader. On all '96 or newer cars and trucks there is an OBDII port within 2' of the steering wheel. This is a direct connection to the Engine Computer Module or ECM. Take a look at http://www.canobd2.com for info on ODBII readers and OBDII in general. OBDII codes are standardized and publicly available. In the 80s, when cars first started having computers, there was no standarization. When the ECM throws a code, the Check Engine Light comes on, if it is something that more or less matters. It is sometimes as simple as a loose gas cap, or a bad seal on a gas cap. I have an Innova 3100a code reader. It tells the code, and what system or subsystem is affected. You can also reset the error condition, IE, turn off the CEL. Sometimes transient condidtions will throw a code that won't go away until a reset. If there is a real problem, the code will come back in a few hundred miles, or sonner if there is a failed component. Some of the newer cars have backup battery systems for the ECM, so a battery disconnect won't always do the job. Code readers are pretty cheap nowadays. Take a look on eBay for a used one. The 3100a comes up for sale new at Kragens for ~100.00 or so every month. Or ask around among the folks you know that do car stuff.
  5. Feel free to do a google search on the words fox rbgh then do a bit of reading. One could expect nothing less of Faux News. Fair and balanced? Going to court to ensure that they have the right to knowingly broadcast that which can be proven to be untruthful, is anything but fair and balanced. They went to court to ensure that they could LIE and not be held accountable in any way. This is a dangerous precedent that is part of why the "Fairness doctrine", in some form, is back in play, to some extent. There must be some level of accountability for truthfulness and fairness on the PUBLIC AIRWAVES. Do not forget that the radio and television stations don't own the broadcast rights. We, the people do. They are granted, on our behalf, by the government. Some level of fair access and truthfulness must be required by law. The "honor" system and the so called "market forces" are not working at all.
  6. Bad management wrecked the auto companies. Right wing bullshit wrongly attributes the fault to the unions. And the gullible suck up the bullshit like it was manna from heaven. Labor makes up about 10 percent, that is correct ten percent, of the cost of a car. The rest is materials and overhead. Cutting wages and benefits by 25-40% is going to reduce the manufacturing cost by how much? This is a math test for the union haters out there. How does that kind of wage cut make the economy better and improve the circumstances for the middle class? The stupid assholes that buy the mass media bullshit that "The unions are killing the cars companies" are helping drive this country into the ground. The management of the auto companies has killed the auto companies. Not the workers. Gullibility and poor research skills = the average righty parrot
  7. Note: A 1 minute video may or may not tell the whole story. Our constitution gives him the presumtion of innocence until conviction. I don't know, conviction of a gross misdemeanor would probably cost him his job. If he is found not guilty, he may still lose his job for mistreatment of a prisoner. From what I saw in the video, I hope so. He certainly seemed to have lost control. But a non-felony conviction would allow him to continue to possess firearms, be eligible for jury duty and vote (felons lose those) You appear to be confusing due process and presumption of innocence in a COURT OF LAW, with a human resources matter. The human resources matter should be handled by firing the officer and terminating any retirement benefits accrued to date. Deterrence, in a most fundamental way. Civil penalties will, not doubt, be paid by the folks that mistakenly hired him. Criminal penalties clearly will be minimal, as he is being protected by the "thin blue line" mentality of the LEO community. Minimal assault charges? What a travesty of justice. If the teenager and a friend of hers had put an ass-kicking on the cop, the way these two guys did to her, on video that is from a completely reliable source, what would the charges be? Way more than minimal assault, I'll bet. I still don't get why only one officer was charged. Aren't both participants in a criminal act supposed to be charged equally? The second officer certainly wasn't trying to stop anything. He jumped right in and did his best to help. What's up with that?
  8. Don't confuse the righties with facts. Their beliefs systems can't handle the challenge to their opinions. Only liberals change their minds when confronted with facts. Righties just talk louder and repeat their talking points, over and over again. It is well known that if you repeat something often enough, truthiness will win out over reality. Facts are REALLY inconvenient.
  9. So screwing people twice over is OK with you as long as the two screwings have "nothing to do" with each other. Maybe the local supermarket should charge me $0.50 for use of the checkout, and the gas station should charge me $1.00 for use of the pump. The way that righties see the world, the answer to your idea would be "yes", IF they can get away with it. Even better would be for all of the supermarkets and gas station to get together into "trade groups", aka, price fixing consortiums, and collectively decide together to implement such charges all at once. That would be a righties version of "good and ethical business practices" that require no government intervention. If the customers don't like it, they are free to take their business elsewhere. There is no such thing as the common welfare or the greater good, the way righties see things. It is all about greed, selfishness, and profits. No person, business, or government has any responsiblility to act in a moral or ethical manner. Profits rule all. Even when it comes down to taking money from the unemployed during the worst economic times in generations. Way to go, Vinny. Kick them while they are down. What a great example of the moral bankruptcy of the right. There is no such thing as the common welfare or the greater good, in righty world.
  10. So much for the right wing theories about the "liberal media" filtering out such stories. The folks who are famous for suppressing dissent are, the REPUBLICANS. You know, the inventors of "free speech zones" for public protestors when shrub was to appear? You know, the ones who required loyalty oaths from those who wanted to attend an appearance by shrub? You know, the ones who were going to change the rules in the Senate to prevent filibustering by the Democrats, when the Republicans had the majority in the Senate? The Nuclear option. The same obstructionist technique that was so EVIL when the Dems were going to use it is just DUCKY when the rescums use it a RECORD number of times to block everything. Hypocritical dirtbags, the way I see it. Those that support them are one and the same. America haters, through and through.
  11. It would do you a world of good to quit listening the Lush Rimjob, reading newsmax, and generally following along with the rest of the righty herd. You don't have your facts and timelines correct as you are parroting the righty propaganda. The discredited theories about tax cuts stimulating the economy are done. Trickle down economics has been a "piss on the poor and middle class", while the rich get richer and richer. The same folks that sold you that bill of goods are the ones that brought you the TRILLION dollar Iraq invasion/occupation. Easy numbers here for you. Poor and middle class folks incomes go UP when Democrats run the show. Poor and middle class incomes go DOWN when Republicans run the show. That is what the LONG TERM statistics show. Why are poor and middle class people so dumb as to vote for those that make them poorer? How the the Rescums manage to get people to vote against their OWN economic interests? It is an impressive feat of marketing. PT Barnum would be very proud.
  12. You might want to brush up on basic civics. The role of Supreme Courts IS to decide if a law is legal, aka, constitutional. This is basic civics that you should have learned in middle school. There are many historical precedents where the courts have had to set aside laws that were passed BY THE MAJORITY of the voters that turned out to be un-constitutional. A fine example of this is what happened in California regarding discrimination in housing. Google Proposition 14 and 1964. Perhaps you should re-direct your outrage to those that would deny equal rights to everyone, gay or straight. The same bullshit regarding God's will, society will be destroyed, the children will suffer, it is against the laws of nature, etc, etc, was used in opposition to the repeal of the laws against miscgenation. It was bullshit then, and it is still bullshit today.
  13. Simply not true. Marijuana is not legal in Amsterdam, Holland or The Netherlands. Simply quite true. The Netherlands handles these kind of issues in a way that makes the USA's version of freedom and liberty appear laughable. My Dutch relatives are very clear about that. From the site http://www.amsterdam.info/drugs/ begin quoted text>>> Soft drugs as cannabis in all its forms (marijuana, hashish, hash oil) and hallucinogenic mushrooms (so called magic mushrooms or paddos – from Dutch: paddestoel - mushroom) are legal under condition of so called “personal use”. As a result smoking of cannabis even in public, is not prosecuted as well as selling it although technically illegal under still valid Opium Act (dating from 1919, cannabis added as drug in 1950), is widely tolerated provided that it happens in a limited, controlled way (in a coffee shop, small portions, 5 grams maximum transaction, not many portions on stock, sale only to adults, no minors on the premises, no advertisement of drugs, the local municipality did not give the order to close the coffee shop). Situation changed recently in regard to the hallucinogenic mushrooms (also known as magic mushrooms or paddos), the sale of which has been forbidden starting November 1, 2008.
  14. So you are saying you think it's a good bill and a good way of spending tax money we do not have? That the barry-aid package targets areas for speedy economic rebuilding of housing markets and jobs? I don't think it will do any of those. I believe it will cause Carter era inflation and unemployment. Where the hell were you when we we borrowing trillions to engage in a premeditated war of aggression against Iraq? NOW it is a bad idea to borrow money to spend AT HOME? Doesn't their hypocracy EVER become evident to these folks? The war on the middle class started with the election of Raygunz. Righties have done a fine job of really screwing up the country. Clinton was stymied by the righties and was impeached on a totally bullshit premise. Time for the Dems to run things for a while. You righties shouted down any and all oppostion, up to and including plans to rewrite the rules to prevent filibustering. Now that the rescums are the minority, they have used and abused filibustering to obstruct any progress, then blamed the leadership for the lack of progress. COMPLETE SCUMBAGS!!! And the gullible sheep fall right in line and blame the leadership for the lack of progress, instead of the obstructionists. You righties can suck it up and deal with the new reality. Your policies have put us in the situation we are in. Get the fuck out of the way while those that have a clue how to run a government ACTUALLY DO IT! The mantra for the righties and the Rescums is that goverment is bad, and the source of all evil. When they are in power, they hate government, so they do a REALLY shitty job. It is left to the Dems to come in and fix what the rescums so badly broke. The gall to post a bullshit "letter" like this, on their own web site, is impressive. And the sheep eat it up, hook, line, and sinker. It seems that the leaders of the GOP are fully aware of just how gullible their supporters are. If PT Barnum were alive today, I am sure he would be impressed.
  15. What a fucked up world we live in. What if the photo were taken at an Amsterdam smoke bar? How do we know that it wasn't? Phelps would have been doing something that is 100% legal, in the context in which it occured. Why is it of ANY importance at all that he may have smoked marijuana recreationally? What he does on his own time is his business. I am going to go out of my way to buy products from the companies that DON'T drop him as a spokesperson.
  16. Righties are trying to pass off a pathetic joke of a letter as something that is a useful contribution to the world? I know that they are comprehension challenged, but this one is hysterical. The bailouts were done under the PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION. The valiant defenders of the small businessmen, the REPUBLICANS!? You have got to be shitting me. The current stimulous package under debate has been voted against 100% by Republicans, because it DOESN"T DO ENOUGH FOR BIG BUSINESS. A perfect example here of just how STUPID righties are. Can't even keep straight which politicians are responsible for what screwup. Blame Democrats. They are at fault for everything. The Rescum mantra. Say over and over long enough and the gullible BELIEVE!!!
  17. Can you define conservative political philosophy? After all, I define conservative political philosophy in terms of maintaining size (small), scope (limited), and spending (limited) of politicians (and thus the government). What about all the negative social change that occurred? I didn't realize it was the politicians (and thus the governments) role to promote social change. I thought it was societies role ... Can you describe for me what you perceive as "negative social change" that has come about via progressive political philosophy? You appear to be confusing progressive philosophy with politicians and their actions. For many of the positive social changes that have occured, it has been the courts that have forced the issue. Progress came about because the law was used to expand rights and privleges, often against the "will of the people", IE, popular vote. Once the courts ruled, enforcement was the next step. It took the "Freedom Riders" to crack the Jim Crow laws, in the south. The conservatives fought tooth, nail, and firebomb, to stop this from happenning. Conservatives at their finest.
  18. Can anyone provide any examples of positive social change based on conservative political philosophy? Progressive political philosophy has brought about positive social change in the form of women’s suffrage, the end of the miscegenation laws, and the civil rights movement. These are all examples of positive social change that occurred, in SPITE of conservative opposition. None of these issues were popular, or had majority support from voters, at the time. I can’t think of a single positive social change that came about by conservatism. Can you?
  19. Snively whiny righties, whinging about a minor tax issue, aka, a molehill, being made into a mountain by their favorite propaganda outlet. Why don't you all go volunteer to pack up some goods to ship to the soldiers in Iraq? At least you all would be doing something that mattered. Reading and believing Faux News isn't a productive use of time. You all know that they (Faux) went all the way to Supreme Court to ensure that they could lie, don't you? Why would you believe anything from Faux? Complete cluelessness is the only explanation I can think of. Eye Dee Ten Tees
  20. and a non-paying bidder as well. A fine example of righty brilliance, ethics and morals. Too ignorant to comprehend the details of what they were buying, they failed to deliver on a legal contract to buy the item when they won it on eBay. A steroetype come to life. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article/article?f=/n/a/2009/01/24/state/n091817S94.DTL The maker of a Sarah Palin mannequin says a would-be buyer backed out when he discovered its past — as a effigy hung by a noose in a West Hollywood home's Halloween display. Professional window dresser ChadMichael Morrisette said the winner of the eBay auction thought he was buying a pro-Palin item until he heard a radio report about it. Morrisette created the look-alike mannequin of the Republican vice presidential candidate and hung it from his home's roof for Halloween. He removed it early out of safety concerns after the display prompted protests. Morrisette told the Los Angeles Times the would-be sale price was more than $2,200. He hasn't said whether he would auction the item again.
  21. OUTSTANDING!!!! I hope that I never see the rescums/righties in power, as long as I live. It is going to take the rest of my life to fix what they have so badly broken.
  22. He has said for nearly the 8 years Bush was no cosevative. He blasted his medicade drug bill, the tsa and the list goes on but, he also defended him agains the bs lies the left spewed for 8 years. you really should listne to him more. Less than Obama? probably, Devoid? not a chance in hell He spoke frequently of when he would comment against Bush and his email would be full of those telling him Bush is all we have. Leave him alone. Much like they (the emailers) did with Limbaughs comment against McCain. Listen to him more. You will make less mistakes when you comment about him Why would anyone with a three digit IQ listen to a drug addicted, America hating loser like Lush Rimjob? Popularity does not equal meaningful substance. He is a liar and hypocrite. His own words make clear the depths of his hatred and untruthfulness. By his own ideals, he should be in jail for his drug addiction and the crimes he committed while feeding his habit. The craven coward doesn't have the 'nads to stand up and take his punishment like a grownup. He hires the best lawyers and manages to evade justice, just like most rich folks do. He even allowed the evil ACLU to help him with his legal predicament. Talk about a hypocrite, he actually took help from the ACLU. What a shock that righties defend him. They are masters of situational ethics. Right and wrong, for them, depends on who is involved, not solid ethical principles. Hammered Shrub? What a pathetic joke.
  23. Ramos and Compean should have served out their sentences. They were tried, convicted, and sentenced in a court of law. Why are you righties so quick to excuse them? Are you losing faith in the US court system's ability to deliver fairness and justice? Special consideration of the events and circumstances is just for LEOs, right? For private citizens, the law is the law. No special consideration there, correct? I am in favor of equal application of the law to everyone. No special breaks for LEOs, or anyone else. You do the crime, you do the time. I have personal experience as the victim of LEOs who engaged in a conspiracy and committed perjury to obtain a conviction. As a juvenile, I was convicted of something I knew nothing about and had no knowlege of. I was arrested, tried, and convicted based on a completely fictional scenario concocted the the police in the town I grew up in. The same group of LEOs was convicted a few years later for conspiracy, B&E, grand theft and possession of stolen property. I have a very skeptical view of the LEO profession. Things like the LEO in Tulia, TX, who was lauded as an example of a true professional and received multiple awards, confirm my feelings. To the best of my knowlege, the State of Texas and the other organizations that granted the awards never rescinded them, in spite of what he did. The LEO profession is like any other. There are good ones, bad ones, and some that should never had gotten a badge at all.
  24. Let me see if I understood you correctly. These guys were LEOs on the job. They had a tough job. During that time frame it was especially bad. In the heat of the moment, they make the bad choice to lie, cheat, and steal, while on the job. Because they are LEOs with a tough job, at a tough time, they deserve to have their actions held to a lesser standard than private citizens. In other words, LEOs do not have the same requirements to follow the law as do private citizens, especially if they are on the job. Did I get that right?
  25. Righties are really twisted people. On the one hand, they are all about following the law and the importance of enforcing the law. On the other hand, when the convicted criminals are LEOs that commited the crimes DURING THE COURSE OF THEIR EMPLOYMENT, it is a travesty of justice to hold them accountable for their actions. Can any one of you righties explain this complete lack of standards and ethics? Either you believe in the rule of law and the justice system here, or you don't. You can't have situational ethics on matters of this nature and expect to be taken seriously.
