Last night after reading the forums I felt something wasnt right. It almost felt as though I knew something happened to a friend of mine. I fell asleep about 845 last night and spent the night having really really wierd dreams. I guess my question is that is it possible to feel something that happened over 2000 miles away? First dont get in a hurry to do anything. Take your time and relax. Skydiving will still be around when you aren't Get proficient on your belly even if it takes you more time than you would like. Always be aware of your altitude. Your life depends on it. Swooping and freeflying are cool acts performed by cool people with a load of experience. Dont be in a rush to try them. Fly with a conservative wingloading. USE a Cypres or other AAD. Make sure your AAD is in date and functioning. Get coaching. Get Coaching Get coaching. Practice your EP's every time you put your rig on. When you decide to start freeflying use an audible, if not use 2 of them. Do not freefly without the proper gear. Know where you are going to land, and stick with it. If you are faced with a long spot after opening find a safe and suitable area to land. Be prepared to walk. Walking a long way is good compared to a short ride. Learn from the mistakes of others. Do not become a statistic. Learn how to track. Track like your life depends on it, because it does. Remember that there is a fine line between life and death in this sport. Do not become complacent. This sport will eat you alive if you do. I dont claim to have all the answers and my knowlege in this sport would barely fill a thimble. But i thought that someone could benefit from this post. I too share in your loss. Michele and I had been friends since she and I started AFF and met on this website. We shared in the ups and downs of not passsing levels and let each other know how we were doing in the progression to our licenses. Michele and were going to meet up in Rantoul this year for some jumps and good times. Eternal Blues my good friend. I will always miss you. FLY FREE MICHELE.... Quite simply we are taught at a very early age to be proud of who we are and of our heritage. It has been brought up in the thread that the only true americans are native everyone else has roots In Asia, Europe or Africa. I am the third generation to be born in the US. 100% American German. Ancestory is something that helps us idenify with who we are. Ive spent a great deal of time in Europe and As soon as I open my mouth I am asked what part of the states I am from, then the conversation immediately turns to my ancestral history. In short, I would just call it conversation. There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan

The Beer Rules An unwritten law, one as immutable and irrefutable as gravity and backed by history, states that skydivers enjoy the drinking of beer almost as much as flight itself. A manifestation of this fact is the tradition of the buying by an individual skydiver a case of beer (that being twenty-four cans or bottles holding twelve or more ounces of beer, ale, or some similar such substance) for his or her fellow jumpers to celebrate the accomplishment of a particular feat or milestone in one's jump career. It is generally recognized that the buying and drinking of such beer enhances that common bond shared by skydivers and contributes greatly to the body of knowledge concerning parachuting and its related activities. It is a sad fact that some skydivers are ignorant of what constitutes a significant achievement (usually and henceforth referred to as a "first"). Equally sad is the fact that some unscrupulously thirsty jumpers will shamelessly try to "weasel" a case of beer out of a jumper for an inauspicious event. Recognizing this, the following happenings are to be regarded as suitable occasions for buying beer. This list is not to be construed as exhaustive. First jump (It is not required of students. They are simply encouraged to participate). If more than one first is accomplished on a single jump, only one case of beer is required. Participation is voluntary. If a skydiver chooses not to participate by buying, neither shall the skydiver enjoy the fruits of the accomplishments of others. Non-drinkers may buy sodas and buyers may make up any part or whole of their purchase in soda for the enjoyment of those non-drinkers. It is generally recognized that using a reserve parachute for the purpose of saving one's worthless, non-packing self from a gory death requires him to buy the saving rigger dinner or the bottle of liquor of his choice. These articles are ironclad and binding. For the price of an additional six-pack, a sniveling skydiver may enlist the services of an S & TA to represent him or her in a hearing where the committee will rule against that skydiver a second time. Completing the student course of instruction First four way First eight way First CRW First time in the peas First night jump First kiss pass First competition First water jump First naked jump First jump on your own pack job First dead center (measured by a judge or electronic scoring pad on a three or five cm disc) First jump on a new main or new rig (purchased, not borrowed) Any license, award, rating, or badge Getting your name or photo in "Parachutist" Magazine Gross safety violations not resulting in serious injury or death Any jump ending in "00" First cutaway/reserve ride First jump from an aircraft not normally used at home drop zone First jump at a new drop zone First demo jump First save (you riggers thought you were getting off easy) Vomiting in the airplane or on another skydiver First round canopy jump (Geez, used to be the other way around) First broken bone First camera jump There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
