About Me

Hello,

I’ve heard that this site is appropriate for airborne us army veterans to tell their background stories.  If so, here goes!

I received my commission from Texas University Army ROTC on 6 June 1962 and entered Airborne Class #13 in October 1962 at Ft Benning.  I went through the tough training and received my Parachute Badge after five qualifying jumps (from old C-119’s) in the same month.  In November’62 I was shipped to Germany’s 7th Army/Nato during the pre-Vietnam Nam Cold War period, Upon arrival, I was ordered to the 8th Infantry Division in Baumholder, expecting to be posted to its Airborne Brigade.  Unfortunately the Brigade’s Airborne status was dropped to “Leg” (non-Airborne) status a short time later.  So my only jump experience was at Benning, with only those five jumps. I ended my active duty in June ‘65, many years ago, but  still consider my short Airborne experience as the most significant part of my three years of active duty in the US Army.  ”

! trust that this short bio will be of interest.
