What Jump Did The Nerves Go Away
SkydiveNFlorida replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do you know what confidence is? It's that cocky feeling you get right before you get knocked down. I was confident that i'd taken in the stuff they were teaching me and that i'd react well should a problem arise. I think that if you're not confident in your ability to handle things, don't jump. jmo. angela. -
Overcoming motion sickness
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
wow, that's an expensive device. Do you really think it helped, or do you think you just got used to flying? Thanks:) Angela. -
Oh, I see. I've heard of cases like that, before sometime. I am sure glad she's alright. Is she on pain pills? Maybe physical therapy might help instead of drugs. Take care:) Angela.

Overcoming motion sickness
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok, i'll do that next time. But, let me appeal to you here as well. This is not only with roller coasters. Boat cabins, backseats of cars. Hell, front seat if i'm riding with my girl, Noelle, lol! I even get a bit quesy if I do too many spirals under canopy, which is why I am thinking this may be a good way to get over it. Maybe do spirals, but not so many as to get quesy, just enough to *almost* get quesy. what'dya think? angela. -
Yeah, she's a cool chick. I didn't know anything about her or her music until I watched some music tv thing on her the other day (I don't have tv at home). She's such a goofball, and not afraid to be herself. She's awesome! Angela.

Overcoming motion sickness
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The point here is that I hate relying on pills or devices. I am hoping that I can actually overcome this altogether by getting myself dizzy regularly by spiraling under canopy. I'm wondering if anyone else maybe used to get quesy, then started jumping and doing spirals and such, and it eased up for them. Mike's reply was the closest to what I was thinking. Mike, do you think the same logic could be applied with spiraling and making myself semi-dizzy/nauseous? Or, do you think that doing this one day a week wouldn't be enough and that you really need an all day everyday think like a long boat trip? More thoughts? thx! Angela. -
I did a jump with someone in z-hills that blew my mind. I had already been jumping with another, but only at a safe distance because i'm kinda sketchy. This guy kept very close to me, actually got a hand dock. He was whereever he wanted to be, under me, around me, up, down. Whatever. It was awesome. I hope I can be that in control one day! It made me much more confident in my sitfly that he was so willing to fly so close to me. I'm not 'good' by any means, but I have become more comfortable with the idea of flying closely to others, and i'm confident that I won't cork or get too unstable. This wasn't a coach jump, but to me it was an equivalent. Angela.

My first sit-fly attempt was only a few jumps off of AFF. I tried on and off after that and then finally got serious about it with an experienced flyer at like jump 28 and was sitting by jump 31 (in an odd position, mind you) :) i've doubled my jumps since then doing almost all sit fly jumps, and i'm still learning. I'm finally going a bit faster i'm told, and i'm getting better position, tho still leaning forward on occassion and need work on that. I also can make turns and keep a heading, but i'm not really sure how i'm turning at this point, I just know that I can follow. It's weird and awesome! Angela.

Well... I mixed OTC drugs with too much booze on the day of our little get together. I know... stupid, stupid. Anyway I only know what my friends have told me. I supposively stopped breathing, and died for a short while. shannon and Roy were trying to keep me afloat while they waited for the paramedics and such... Glad you're ok, Lany. Please be careful. This year 2 friends of my cousins died of overdoses on different OTC pills and mixing. It is not a smart thing to do. It may be fun in some respects, but it isn't worth the high risk associated with it. Don't mix. Don't OD. It really is an eye opener when people you know die from it, or in your case, you almost die yourself. Cheers to Shannon!! Angela.

Overcoming motion sickness
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's cool, and another consideration. But, I guess I was hoping for something more permanent. I mean, we can adapt to all sorts of things as human beings... why can't my body gradually overcome motion sickness like an allergic person can become immune to an allergent through injection of allergy shots? Am I explaining this right? Is this unreasonable? Angela. -

Sorry your friends are having trouble. Yes, I am still in college, and will be in college for quite some time. My parents do not have the means to support me, nor do they help me pay for college. So, just a little fyi, not everyone in college can't speak for the working world. I know how it is. Trust me, I have plenty of bills and can't afford to not work, either. I do, however, believe that college will pay off for me in the end. I'll be doing something more interesting and will undoubtably make more $$ than I do now. That means more skydives, more lobster dinners, and therefore a happier Angela. And, to make another point, if I weren't going to make more $$. I would probably still be in college. Education is important, i'm glad i'm pursuing one. Not trying to argue, either. Just wanted to reply to your post about my idealistic thinking and make sure you understand that I can't afford to be out of work any more than your friends can. Good luck to them. Angela. -
Almost Cutaway on Level 5
SkydiveNFlorida replied to bluewaterstream's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good that you looked. That should be the first thing you do after you pull. Pull, count 3, look up for landable canopy over your head. Yeah, pay attention to your posiiton. Line twists are not always so easy to deal with, and once you start getting more jumps in and start jumping with people you'll start pulling a little lower than 5k. So, pay attention to body position now and stay in good habit. I got slack with this once I started freeflying and had to retrain myself to have good position and stability at pull time. Congrads on your progress with turns and landings! Keep up the good work:D Angela. -
Overcoming motion sickness
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I get motion sick on roller coaster rides, and in the cabin of small boats. I was wondering if anyone has been able to overcome this through skydiving, mainly canopy exercises? Like, if I do a few hard spirals under canopy every jump, might I eventually be able to work this up to being able to ride a roller coaster without feeling quesy (sp?).? Any thoughts? Thx. Angela. -
Failure.

I got lots of shit about my log book because I almost lost it everywhere. I don't usually even bring it with me anymore, just log jumps later on, I try to log them before I forget how many I did, lol! I generally just fill out the top part with exit alti, aircraft, ff time, date, etc.. .then short desc, i.e. 2-way sit fly, hop n pop, etc. Maybe one day i'll wish i'd written more, but I don't want to spend a whole buncha time writing, I write enough crap at school and work. Good for you keeping it up, tho. Denise isn't lying, man, she can spend like a half hour logging jumps. haha. Angela.

Should I invest in any gear for my AFF training?>
SkydiveNFlorida replied to hawkflight's topic in Gear and Rigging
I actually agree here, but for a different reason. I would say don't worry about buying a helmet yet, since you can use your school's helmets free of charge. After you get off student status, THEN you can decide what kind of helmet you want, be it a protec or something else. Until then, I would say goggles, gloves, and a hand-mounted altimeter; in that order. Ok, so I can't decide for someone that they'd like something other than a protec. I am, however, basing my assumption upon the fact that I do not see many skydivers who own their own Protec helmets. Be it safer or not, it doesn't seem most people get them. I, for one, would not be buying a protec. Just too loud and not as comfy as other helmets. jmo of course. Angela. -

Maybe they should then seek out those jobs which they focused on getting a degree for. I'm curious as to what they graduated with and can't find a job in their field of study. What degree, BA, BS? What major? I am planning to get my degree in Physics or Engineering. I don't know many Physicists or Engineers that got in with just a high school education. :) angela. -

I wouldn't buy a protec helmet since you'll just be wanting another anyhow. If you want to get your own helmet, get something you'll want to keep using. I'd wait 'til off AFF and then demo some helmets. Also, unless you're rich, you might wanna wait a little bit on an alti, too, since they usually provide them for you. Leaves you $$ for things that you'd rather not borrow (such as goggles worn by others, or stinky helmets, etc). Have fun! Angela. -
Call skydive Deland in the morning, i'm sure someone will know. Angela.

Well, what are they studying? What degree did they acheive? Obviously this is not supposed to be the case, but some people graduate with an AA degree and expect to get an awesome job. Or, they graduate with a bachelors in something that no one gives a shit about, or something that everyone and thier brother is taking because it's fun (ie, art stuff, or something). Also, entry level jobs in what? In a field that they studied, i'd guess? Isn't that what they wanted to do with thier lives? If they studied Marine Biology, sure they may end up taking a crappy job out of college, but you do it for the love of it. Instead of having a low paying job as an assistant manager at Walmart, they have a low paying job studying microorganisms. I, personally, would rather the second. Angela. -
from arch position, bring one arm in like you're saying the pledge of alliegance (sp?), you'll flip over because of the wind only hitting you body more on one side than the other, (not balanced where wind is concerned.) Once you go back into arch, you'll stop rolling over. If you are facing the sky rather than the earth, then do it to flip you back over, then arch. Barrel rolls are fun while you're tracking. Start tracking, then bring one arm in as if you touch your opposite leg with your hand without bending your body. Good luck:) Angela.

I'm sick of these tests. I thought I did well and still 76% of the population did better than I. Hey, Dropoutdave, i'll take those jump tickets for my soul, i'm not using it anyhow:) Well, shit, guess i'm just poor in every sense, then aren't I?! lol! (well, maybe Dave will buy my soul for 2000 jump tickets..:D ) Angela

Well, in short, yes, i'm sensitive.
