Secondary lower performance canopy?
lifesatrip replied to PhreeZone's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Oh yeah I kept my first rig with a Turbo Z for those days when I really want to jump but the clouds are down around 2000'. I really don't want to get out that low with my Samurai, but with 400 jumps on my Turbo Z I trust getting out low with it. -
Hey there, when I last decided to downsize I weighed 135 lbs and I went with a Samurai 105. For that wing loading it is a nice canopy. Its got lots of speed when you go aggressive. If you want to land it straight in it has no problems. It turns nice. All and all a great canopy. Plus once you get to know the canopy and you want it to go faster all you have to do is get a detachable slider for it and have some fun. I read that someone said a Mamba wouldn't be a bad choice. A buddy of mine got a Mamba 120 and I did a few jumps on it. Well it is nice to fly, ground hunger turns fast, long recovery arc. You need a higher wing loading when it comes time to land. It just doesn't have the bail out if you turn just a little lower than you want. Kind of seemed like landing a big 7 cell. If you do you carve right everytime it does have a nice swoop though.

Hi there all, if you are a skydiver in Ontario, or are planning to jump in Ontario. We would like to announce that Parachute School or Toronto is back up and running in Baldwin. After lots of looking for a new airport and a couple of new owners at Baldwin we are back. Lots of the regulars have been spending many a weekend fixing the place up and man are we looking good. We still have the bad ass c206 for our jump plane and there is a good chance we are getting something else 182ish for the summer. Have a good safe jumping season.

Demo jump cancelled because of a vengeful jumper
lifesatrip replied to BillyVance's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dude that is so sad to hear. Why is it that one spoiled little kid can spoil the fun of all. You would think that is a sport like ours that people where people are forced to trust each other with our lives that this child like behaviour could stop. -
ok, my profile doesn't really give away my jumping experience. Yeah my set of gear is a big ass turbo z 165. But all I really used that gear for in the last couple hundred jumps is crw. I am a Canadian jumper who jumps all year long as long as i am healthy. My last 300 jumps have been on Sabre2 135, then a Stiletto 135 and finally I did a bunch of jumps on a Jedi 120, which I loved to fly. MY weight without gear is a cool 135 lbs.

Hi all, just wondering if there is anyone with a samuri 105 in Ontario. I am looking for a new canopy but live in Canada so we can't get demo canopies. Was hoping to try a samuri and maybe a katana and crossfire 2 out. Thanks for your help

Light weight, wanting opinions
lifesatrip replied to lifesatrip's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hi all, This goes out to all the light weights out there. I am now in the market to buy a new canopy. I've got 600 jumps, have got 200 jumps on a Stiletto 135 and a Sabre 2 135. At the end of the season I was jumping my buddies Jedi 120 and really liked it. I only weigh in at about 135 lbs. There is so much talk on how wing loading makes canopies turn faster, open smoother, dive longer. But see I dont feel like droping to a to a sub 100 to get the preformance. So what canopies fly nicely when are lightly loaded. -

Hi there all, Yeah dropzone has a classified section and they have a few other links, but what are some other websites with gear for sale.

It was the last jump of my coach 2 course and we had to turn atleast 6 points. I knew as soon as it happened that it was broken. According to the other people on the 4way I was shacking my hand and they couldn't figure out why. Once we got together we turned 6 points before I was in so much pain I tracked off. Adrenaline is a wonderful thing, I deployed my main like it was a normal jump. When it came time for landing, I don't know what I was thinking but I carved in the landing and had once of the nicer swoops that I have had. Once the swoop stopped I dropped to the ground.

We were pulling a 4way out of a Cessna C206. I was rear float, had my left hand on the door frame and my right hand on the front float persons left arm grip. We were both full out side the plane. I was given a shake by the guy doing rear dive that everyone was ready, I gave the key, leg out, in, and out and went. They didn't, not sure why. When I went my right middle finger broke. The bone that broke was right at the joint, the 3rd bone from the end and it looked like someone hit it one the end with a hammer. The joint area compressed down and broke in about 5 pieces. Anyone ever hear of this before?
-
I am currently stuck at 565 jumps, cause i broke my middle finger pulling out a four way. I do about 250 jumps a year. Lately I have been jumping Sabre2 135 and Stiletto 135 and a Jedi 120.

Demo canopy would be nice but they wont send them to Canada

I'm in the market for a new rig and I've been jumping a Jedi 120 lately and really like it. At my home dz everyone loves PD and they tell me that the stiletto 120 is a better canopy. I weigh about 135 lbs and have about 600 jumps. The problem is that there are no stiletto 120. Anyone got any opinions.

Hi there all, Mother Nature thank you for last weekend. It was warm enough up here in Ontario to actually do the first CRW jump of the year. It brings hope that spring is coming and that CReW season is beginning. Yahoo

What's the best year round dropzone weather wise?
lifesatrip replied to dsbbreck's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In Ontario, I would have to say Parachute School of Toronto. This is because we are crazy and jump all year round. There is not to many weekends that we don't jump and it is never cause we don't have enough jumpers. It can be really fucking cold and we will still jump. -
i know most people use triatholons and lightnings for crw but i have been using my turbo z with a couple of modes, a set of cross connectors and a split slider and it has been working well
-
At the DZ I jump at we never say it is to cold to jump and we don't even have a door on our plane. We've gone up to 10'500' with a temp at altitude of -55. It was cold but eh it is worth it. Swooping is snow is awesome and canopies just seem to fly nicer with the thick cold air.

Ideas Needed For 100th Jump
lifesatrip replied to WayneRATS's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Here's a good one for you. Doing a cannonball exit with atleast one other person. After 15-20 seconds, plan a signal, punch it out and stay linked. Once stable, go into a hard helicopter and hopefully you build up enough force to rip you two appart. It can also be done with 3 or 4. Or go CReW Just have fun, congrats -
Rounds were great fun. I did 6 s/l and 20 on a PC. The peace and quite up there is so nice. A little bit more worries about how good your spotting is, but eh now when I am dispatching students, I ask which tree not what group of trees.

Hi there all, I was wondering if there any good books on CRW out there?
-
Wow really, I did my first tandem on my 87th jump and all I can say is that there is no way I will ever do it again. The instructor was great and it was a big rush. I was so nervous being in a plane, with no door, knowing that I was going to jump out of it. Plus giving up all that countrol.

Hi all. I started into CReW at the start of September. Now I got 16 or so of them in so far and wow, it just keeps getting me more and more excited about doing it. I have to give a lot of credit to the guy who is teaching me. Today we finally got our three stack together that we have been working on for the last couple of jumps. There was Angus who has a whole bunch of CRW jumps in and James a guy who has 3 or 4 in now and me. It was beautiful, our plan was that once we had it we were going to fly it around and land it. I've now been on the bottom for the landing of a couple of stacks and the landings dont seem to get better. It was the best way to end the weekend. I can't wait for the next one.
