  1. I jumped yesterday with one of the guys who was in the ...reenactment?? I haven't seen it yet. It was done at Delmarva in Delaware. If anyone knows when it's on again, please let us know.
  2. Can someone give me a great line to throw back to the Whuffos that start with the "why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?" bs everytime I bring up jumping? I've heard the one about "the door was open" but are there any other great ones that I can use instead of throttling the little people that spew this junk?? Oh and I did my first solo today and it was awesome....
  3. ok....I jumped and it wasn't cold at all. I just remember breaking through the clouds at 5K and feeling the temp change 5-10 degrees colder and that was it. Anyway it was a blast!! It was my first solo, AWESOME!
  4. **SIGH*** I am from upstate NY so I'm used to cold weather. But all my jumps have been in 80 degree weather in shorts and a t-shirt. I would imagine that it would be pretty cold in the air if it was 60-65 on the ground. But now that I think about it, I guess I am a wimp... :)
  5. I'm going jumping tomorrow and it's supposed to be about 60-65. I'm just wondering what should I expect since this will be my first jump in fridgid air. I mean I know that on the ground it won't be too bad but up at 13K, I would imagine it's gonna be pretty chilly. Any recommendations, especially on what I should wear?
  6. I feel your pain brother and I'm only 205, 5'11. Here are a few things I've noticed. First try to put the pack up as high as you can on your back before you tighten the leg straps. I think that will limit the movement of the straps when your chute opens. Also, when I started to move down to a 230, I noticed the pain stopped. It made me wonder if size of canopy has something to do with it....
  7. I hope to make it down to Orange as well. I jump at Delmarva and just finished AFF. I'm not totally comfortable about going to another DZ yet. Perhaps after a few more jumps though.... Good luck in your progression. I'll leave you with some words from my JM: "Just Relax And Have Fun!"
  8. First off, what does baking a helmet mean? Does it have something to do with molding the pads for a custom fit on your nugget? Also, I'm looking at getting a mindwarp for my first helmet. I don't want one that covers my full face right now because I'm a student and right now will be doing mostly solo jumps (as far as I can tell anyway). I'd like something that is durable lightweight and will cut down on the noise. Is this a good choice?
  9. Look, what I mean is it is something totally new to all the AFF jumps that we do. Hell I don't even think I looked down until level 5!! I think IFICS is right, my legs probably werent all the way curled up but I also think maybe my head wasn't cocked all the way up. I might have gotten fixated on the ground, which was stupid. I'm looking forward to doing it again however. By the way good luck with yours Kel!!! I'm sure you'll do fine...like my JM says "relax and have fun"
  10. I swear to god it was the scarriest thing I've ever done. I flipped over onto my back I think mostly because my hear wasn't all the way up... It took me about 2000 feet to stablize I think, that's wayyyy too long. After that I executed my front loop and did some tracking that was pretty half a$$. So my JM passed me because I had good AA and I pulled stable. I'm going back out with him with video next time to work on my dive and tracking.
  11. I just finished AFF this weekend and I'm STILL having trouble keeping my legs out. The biggest problem that I see with this right now is it's taking me an extra five to ten seconds in free fall to stablize. I have pretty good altitude awareness and such but my legs continually curl up. Any idea on how to fix this? I know I'm opening myself up to a flood of answers but it's starting to rattle my confidence.
  12. DUDE!! I watched this video at my DZ this week of you doing BASE in Idaho. One of the guys there jumped with you but his name escapes me. Awesome stuff!!! I bow down to the greatness that is thee....
  13. Awesome girlie!!! Take care out there and be safe!!
  14. Instead of posting my own, I'll just piggy back on this one.... I graduated AFF yesterday. It wasn't my best jump but I had never done a dive exit and it was a different experience. YAY ME!!!!
  15. Ok, cool...so I get to do some solo jumps. At this point is it alright to maybe try out another dropzone? I figure the time I do it I'll have ten jumps under my belt. It would make getting my A a lot easier...
  16. For seven years I mentioned to most of my friends that I wanted to try to skydive. Everytime they backed out. Finally I got up the skill AND the cash to do it and I decided it didn't matter if I had someone to do it with anyway. This weekend I'll hopefully be successfully completing my level 7 AFF jump. It's been great and I don't think it would have been any funner if I would have done it with someone. I've met some great people and I wouldn't have it any differently. DO IT NOW!!!!
  17. I've going to do my level 7 this weekend. I'm curious what the role of my JMs will be after (god willing) I complete AFF? Generally do JMs still jump with students after AFF? I think I'm getting more nervous now than when I started taking the class because I'm wondering how I'm gonna try out different rigs, how am I gonna get to work on tracking, how am I gonna get to try out new gear and stuff like that. Am I just stressing over this for no reason?
  18. Anybody know what happened to it? I've been trying to check it out for the last two days and I get nothing. It looks like the server was taken down....
  19. I got an email back from them yesterday, they said I'm more than welcome to stop by and get one. I'm going to go over there this afternoon. I'm pretty excited!!! I wonder if they all work in their jumpsuits....
  20. I would read Al Franken's "Lies and the Lying Liars that tell them...A Fair and Balanced Look st the Right" While I don't agree on a lot of things the book talks about, it does have some interesting thoughts on Clinton, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity. Those last two are total idiots and I can't believe how many people listen to them blindly. And if you think that people aren't starting to tire of GWB you might want to look at the latest polls for the last few months. The honeymoon is definitely over.
  21. Yes actually, and thanks for the info. I feel better now.. I saw in another post that you chopped at 2k ft. I'm wondering if you do that and pull the reserve rather quickly what kind of altitude are you looking at when your reserve deploys? 1k? Does it depend a lot on the rig?
  22. Is it possible to stop by the USPA office in Alexandria and pick up a copy? I don't want to wait until next week to get it....
  23. Can I get some more information on lineovers please? I know I should know them down pat since I'm almost done with AFF but all I seem to remember from my ground course is that they are bad and if I get one I'm supposed to chop. What exactly are they caused from? What happens to the Canopy during a lineover? Does it spin or get twisted or something like that? Can lineovers occur after a controllable square canopy come out? In other words do I need to worry about seeing a lineover happen after riding a good canopy for a couple thousand feet? Can you combat a lineover? Is there anything that can be done? I know you don't remove your steering toggles if you are in a line twist, is the same thing true for line overs? Lastly? If you do have a lineover on landing, what kind of impact can you expect? Fatal? Sorry for the flood of questions.....
  24. I didn't actually mean a motorcycle helmet. I just didn't know the correct terminology for the full face helmets that I see other guys jumping with. In retrospect, now that I've had a few days to think about it, the freefall noise probably isn't all that damaging at this point. I mean we're talking 60 seconds max but I was more interested I guess in whether these helmets would cut down on the noise. I do notice it when I'm out there. Thanks for all the responses.
