Airplane pictures "not the shiny ones"
BarbaraKobzik replied to BarbaraKobzik's topic in The Bonfire
They are (almost) all Whuffos here, it's not a dropzone, it's a company making fancy avionics. I really would love to have some "real" airplane pictures in my room. So PLEASE IF YOU HAVE PICTURES FOR ME .... please let me know. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -
Airplane pictures "not the shiny ones"
BarbaraKobzik replied to BarbaraKobzik's topic in The Bonfire
Hi there, I work in a company that has lots of very shiny photos of airplanes - all new and in excellent shape - at the wall. Now I am looking for some pictures for my new office. I would like to stay with airplanes, but I want to make it "more realistic", at least from a jumper's point of view. So, who has photos for me of really crappy airplanes? Dashboards with 80% of the instruments marked "inop" or just missing, something like that? Or anything else that would make an impression between all these super equipped cockpits we have in the hallway? Maybe you could post or send me a small version and I would come back to you later with my email address to send me the full version? Please only photos with a decent size / resolution to be able to make good size pictures out of them. I look forward to my new office wall decoration! Thanks a lot, Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -
Depending on the amount, you definitely should ask for the fees. Paypal charges quite a bit - not a big deal when you buy a memory card for 50$, but depending on the total amount, it might be quite some money. I transferred some money from Germany to the US, they did it in two different ways: 1) money transfer: fees were around 80$ and you get the exchange rate whatever it will be at the time the transfer gets through (which is a few days after you initiated the transfer) 2) the German bank bought US$ exactly at the moment I chose, then transferred the money already in US$: advantage: I got the exchange rate I chose, and the fees were only around 30$ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice.

Hi there, I have to look for a new car, my 1995 Odyssey with 285,000 miles and a broken a/c (not good in summer in Florida) is on it’s way to retirement. That I ended up with the Odyssey was kind of a coincidence. What I like is, that I can keep my bike in there, have a mattress in there so that I can sleep in the car at the dropzone. Also great to haul things that are not really made for a normal size car, like lumber, kayaks, or whatever. I know, everything can go at a rack on a normal car, but that is too much effort for me, I like this size of car. Due to a new job, I have to drive quite a bit to work, so gas mileage is a big issue, pretty much the biggest. And reliability – don’t need a car that always has something. Minivans don’t look great, somebody recently joked about my “soccer mom car”, and I have to agree. So something looking a bit nicer, probably more like an SUV, would be great, but definitely not if that means bad gas mileage. I plan on buying a car that is 1-2 years old, so that I still have at least one year of the usual 3 year car warranty. So, any recommendations here? Thank you very much, Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice.

SKI WEEKEND - recommendations much appreciated
BarbaraKobzik replied to BarbaraKobzik's topic in The Bonfire
Hello Bill, We definitely plan to go back, it was all very convenient for a long weekend, no long distances to drive. Could you please compare all the ski areas (runs, atmosphere, environment, people,...)? We just skied in Alta and liked it very much, but I would love to hear more about the different areas. Where did you fly out of? Direct flight? Thanks a lot, Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -

Hi there, thank you all very much for the great hints. We went to Alta and had a blast. 3 days of super snow and blue sky, everything was absolutely fantastic. The area is beautiful, great runs (pretty cool with all the powder snow and "nature" runs), access was easy (yes, our 72$-for-3-days-car didn't have any problems to get up there, the road was in great condition, thanks for the hint to save the money for an SUV). And no snow boarders !! Beautiful! We definitely want to go back there, thanks again folks, that was a great recommendation. Thank you all very much. SLC it is. Just turned my frequent flier miles into tickets, leaving tomorrow night in 2 weeks for a long weekend. Car rental was excellent via Priceline (72$ all incl for 3 days), got a hotel (Sleep Inn) for 49$ per night in South Jordan, so that should be quick to get to Alta. Have all my ski equipment still in Germany, so need to rent. Any recommendations? Thanks again - Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -

Thanks, but I am afraid Seattle is a bit far for the weekend, Salt Lake City is probably the max, even though skiing in warm weather sounds nice. I did that a lot in Switzerland, next to the Matterhorn, when I still was living in Germany. Great to ski on the glaciers, in t-shirt, in the sunshine, loved that. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -

Ski, no board. "Board free zone" actually sounds good... (sorry, no offense, but I don't like hybrid jumps neither, sometimes it's just better to keep things separated, you can mix them later at the bar) Any website you could recommend for Alta? Any certain ski area / ski pass you would recommend? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -

Hi folks - I guess a good amount of you go skiing from time to time, and hopefully can give me some good hints. I live in Orlando, FL now, which obviously is not the best place for skiing. So, what would be the best place to go for a ski weekend? Here are the things I am looking for: - direct flight from Orlando - fast access to the slopes from the airport - not too crowded, so probably a place with many ski areas - the obvious, like nice snow, beautiful landscape - affordable places to stay / eat / lift tickets The plan is to fly on a Thursday evening, from Orlando most likely to the West somewhere, then go skiing Fri, Sat, and maybe half Sun, fly back Sunday early afternoon. What I heard so far is: - Salt Lake City would be good - Denver Airport is too far from the slopes - There are some nice places in the Northeast, but nothing specific yet So, friends of the cold and white, please come up with your recommendations, experiences, hints, it will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot, Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -
Hi Oren, I did, big oriental supermarket - they've never heard of that stuff, that's why I assume it must have a different name here. Well, I guess I need to mix something by myself now, salad needs to get ready... Thnks, Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice.

Hi, I have a little problem here, actually a pretty urgent one, and could need your help. I am just preparing some food for a party tomorrow. One of the spices (it's rather a thick sauce or paste) I need to put into the main dish is called "Sambal Manis" in Germany, it's very common, you find it in every grocery store over there. I thought it would be the Asian name. Today I tried to buy it here - nobody had any idea what I was looking for. It's actually from Asia, either China or Indonesia, not sure. Does anybody of you have an idea, how this (or something similar) would be called here in the US? Please let me know asap, maybe I can still find something similar to get some taste into my Asian salad. Thanks a lot, Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice.

Hi Mark, how does the account look after the weekend with the memorial jumps for Johnny? Great that Janine and Scotty provided food for free, but I hope people made donations instead! Mark, I am sure it's just because PayPal is not everybody's favorite. I am sure, most people plan to give you the money directly during the weekend. A drop box at manifest for envelopes would be helpful. Maybe it helps you to know what to expect? I don't want to start a public list here, but would it be helpful for you if everybody sends you a pm with the amount they plan to give during the weekend? Or are you swamped with pm anyways? Please let us know - and thank you very much again for taking care of this. Look at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007M40P2/ref=olp_product_details/002-0669351-4636852?ie=UTF8&seller= I think they ship overnight (especially for bigger orders, if more people want to order muffs) Thanks a lot for setting up the account and taking care of the Parachutist thing! Kaleidoscope in Deland, who's going?
BarbaraKobzik replied to mirage62's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Wow, look at the dives. Dive 2, that is definitely "Kaleidoscope" - hope we will do good in this one. All the others are nice as well, and sure, the diamond always a challenge, but this dive 2, that is "Kaleidoscope"! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -
Kaleidoscope in Deland, who's going?
BarbaraKobzik replied to mirage62's topic in Events & Places to Jump
To non-US skydivers paying via PayPal: I just made my payment via PayPal, used my German bank account. On finishing the transaction, I got a confirmation message, including this information: "The changing rate was 1.2395" I checked, the official changing rate right now is 1.2726. Instead of taking 1 % like almost every credit card (for use abroad), PayPal takes 2.6 %. The difference is almost a box of Corona. So maybe you can pay with your credit card directly (and let me participate in working on the Corona you saved). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -
Kaleidoscope in Deland, who's going?
BarbaraKobzik replied to mirage62's topic in Events & Places to Jump
The website says something like "list of people who paid already for the event". I am sure the list of attending people is much longer. This might be a reminder for making your payments (shame on me, not on the list yet either ). We'll have fun again!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice. -

ZHills Bellyflyer this weekend (Aug 12-13)
BarbaraKobzik replied to BarbaraKobzik's topic in The Bonfire
Hi there, as most of you have realized, in these hot summer month, the jumping days are often limited in the afternoon due to thunderstorms. Additionally many of us have the problem to get their butts out of bed at a decent time on the weekend, especially, when you don't really now if other bellyfliers are around or not. I noticed lately, that somehow people seem to have the ability to show up at the dz at as different times as possible with as little overlap timewise as possible. And that is not a good thing for things you want to do together, like formation skydiving. What I am trying to say, to get a little bit clear here: Let's meet this weekend Saturday between 9 and 9:30, and try to get some nice jumps in, same for Sunday. Would be great to do some bigger ways. Looking forward to seeing you all and some fun jumping! Hi, go to "skydiver.de", then click dropzones Europa Flash Deutschland You will see a (pretty well maintained and updated) list of German dropzones. If you want to jump there soon, make sure you take long underwear... Barbara

Hi all, Lake Wales is back on their feet and have started jumping again. Today I did a jump out there, and honestly I have to admit, this jump will stay in my memory as one of the most outstanding jumps I've ever made. You can't imagine how it looks from the air, the whole area. You probably saw pictures in the papers or on tv, but this is real... I haven't seen anything like that yet, I was deeply touched and impressed. You get an idea how much force these hurricanes have - very hard to believe it's just wind. I highly recommend to do a jump over there, when you have the chance. Open high and watch - it' a very unique experience. Blue skies, especially over Lake Wales at the moment, Barbara --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's nice to be important, but it's much more important to be nice.

Charley from air – Lake Wales operating again
