Oh, Mr.Octopus' the arch-rival of Spiderman this time. Whoo-whoo. I'd rather pay the full price of a ticket when Spiderman takes Venom on!!! That'd be an interesting challenge for the filmmakers. Whoops, I didn't mean to sound like a comic nerd.

[Long] Why newer jumpers want to Freefly at 20 jumps..
colintri replied to jmfreefly's topic in Freeflying
I'd like to add one more reason why newer people are going straight to FF. It's easier to 'goof around' in FF than RW. The atmosphere in FF is more laid back than RW. Two way sitfly is more fun and entertaining than a four-way RW. Newer people may be afraid of being under pressure in order to peform the points correctly. They came to the DZ to have fun, not to worry about performing the points correctly. It may sound like a lame excuse, but it is a real excuse for some of newer jumpers. However, most of newer jumpers don't realize FF can be dangerous, i.e., corking and high speed collisions. Not to mislead you readers, I strongly advocate doing RW for 100 jumps or more before moving on to FF. An example is you can't build a house without enacting a foundation. Your belly skills first must be solid. -
Whoa! Looks like Carolyn had plenty of fun. Thanks for the pics. Good time, indeed.

I share the same sentiments with Mary. It's absolutely essential for that child to be placed in a proper deaf educated program so the child will have a fair chance to be able to learn among with hearing children. It would be very sad to see the child fall behind in education simply because the school district couldn't provide for that child. Please check into it. As a deaf person, I started out in a specialized program for hearing-impaired children in elementary and middle school. I was able to move on to mainstream classes by time I was in seventh grade with aid of interperters. If it wasn't for the specialized program, I doubt I'd be here right now. As for FM, I'm not really a big supporter of it. It works for some people and it didn't do anything for me. I'm profoundly deaf (120% hearing loss in both ears) and the teachers still forced me to wear FM when I couldn't hear anything. The only time I could hear is when I got a cochlear implant but that's another story for another time. If that child still couldn't hear you with FM, it is likely that the child is profoundly deaf, same as me. The best thing you can do is to see an audiologist and determine how serious is the child's deafness. Flyingdeafie said, Very true, especially with deaf children.

I've used it in the past. It's great when you don't have to worry about returning the DVDs on time and save yourself a trip to the movie store. No late fees! The service is good and turnaround delivery for DVDs is fast. The only flaw with using Netflix that DVDs weren't always in great quality. Sometimes, I'd get a DVD that was unplayable due to overuse or scratched marks on it. I cancelled my membership with Netflix because I didn't really watch movies much anymore now.

LOL...if you look at it hard enough, you'll get a different mental picture. It's still a nice rig!

how many of yall have intentionally stalled a canopy
colintri replied to TribalTalon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey, Don. I did it yesterday. I did a high hop 'n' pop to play around with my canopy. I must admit, it was a strange (SCARY) feeling when I stalled my canopy completely and both ends of it come together, throws you down backwards. Needless to say, my heart rate jumped up about 100 beats a minute. I sucked it up and did it again. So two total canopy collapses for me yesterday. It's a valuable learning experience to see how your parachute works in the air. Thanks to Brian Germain's course, I've been paying more attention to the fine details of parachute design and truly learning how to fly it. -
Yup, West Point was originally called The Peninsula Skydivers Skydiving Club. It was started in July 1962 by Hugh Bergeron. It's a mighty nice dropzone and it's a shame that they're going to tear the old clubhouse down.

What? No taping of your landing? I can't imagine what it was like to land with a paracommander. One major PLF, right?

169. Nice number! There was only one question I didn't really understand which was "Have you ever made someone slept in a wet spot?" Anyone cares to volunteer to answer this question?

Wow, that's a good website for ASL. I've been looking around for a site like that but no luck. Thanks, Laurel. The only downside of it is these annoying popups. At least it's not excessive.

I guess it will take Viking more than a day to approve the pictures. Nice meeting ya, Scott!

It's easy. If you know the quotient rule, just follow it.

I think you're referring to "The Fabulous Baker Boys" with Jeff Bridges and Michelle Pfeiffer.

If your life became a film - who would play you?
colintri replied to damion75's topic in The Bonfire
I don't know any actor would be suitable to my personality but I'll go for looks. It would be Sylvester Stallone for me. I've already heard from few different people that I look like "Rocky". Geez... I guess it has to do with my heavy eyes. -
Very sweet, indeed. I see that you got the unisys too!

Have your relatives come to see you skydive?
colintri replied to Vertifly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My family was skeptical of my passion for skydiving but now, they're proud of me. Sure, they're still concerned about me but they're happy for me. As of right now, they're planning to come out this summer to see me. My cousin and father have expressed interest in doing tandem jumps this summer but who knows? -
You really should check out "The Big Blue" sometimes. It's directed by Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, The Professional). It also has Jean-Marc Barr and Jean Reno. This one is very unique because the cinematography is absolutely stunning and breath-taking along the coast of Greece and Italy. If you're a nature person, you can't go wrong with this movie.

The Interview With God..........................................
colintri replied to rhino's topic in The Bonfire
Very touching and very true. -
Therefore, anyone who watches Survivor is weird. Considering this post was started by DJL, I'm not surprised. Is that better now?

Don, I'm going to kick your butt if you fall low at DWR 2005 next year. J/K! or was I?

I'm sorry but I must comment about this quote. I'm a low-timer who loves to freefly. Right out of AFF, I started to freefly and did bit of RW. Some people think it's impossible to do two disciplines at the same time but I don't agree. I later found out that I could sit-fly, rock-solid all the way but couldn't dock onto a formation dive worth shit. Recently, my mentor has managed to persuade me to do mostly RW at first. His quote was, "learn to crawl before you can walk first!" Now, I've spent past few weekends focusing on RW and learned so much how to fly on belly, controlling fall-rate, docking onto a formation. Heck, RW can be fun too! Sure, it depends on where you jump and what kind of people you jump with but low-timers can jump with high-timers. Just walk up to them and ask. I'm sure most of them are willing to help you. Yes, freeflying has a steep learning curve and I'm forunate to get a head start on it but now that I look back, I wish I've done more RW dives. I believe that in order to be a true freeflier, you must be able to master all aspects of flying in air and that even includes belly-flying. Of course, this is only my opinion. I hope I didn't throw any more gasoline on the fire about RW vs FF now.
