Skip all line stows but the locking stow?

This guy didn't even really delve into the complications. One complication is summarized in this quote: "The water is cold. And deep." Someone already mentioned split-pee. There are pre-urination processes to attempt to deal with this, but it's a classic cost/benefit struggle. Peeing in the shower is good, but the complication there is you can't do it with your eyes closed. It _seems_ like it would be OK, but, no. There's the "Am I done yet?" issue which leads to the "John Wayne" issue the original poster wrote about. Plus take ANY of these situations and throw in the SO. Everything is twice as bad, maybe more, when a member of the fairer sex is observing. This is why men make the bathroom stink so bad - it's a self defense technique to ensure privacy during urination. Personally, I favor the shower combined with the "counting/timing" technique. Imperial data collection from years past indicates my bladder cannot, under any normal circumstance, hold more than 90 seconds of urine. Therefore, after a minute and a half, I must be done and it is safe to return to my shower already in progress. Or, if I am not taking a shower first thing in the morning and the pain isn't too bad, I just spend a couple minutes thinking of wrinkled old nuns and kittens being run over on the railroad, and the morning wood abates allowing me to win the bend-wrestle. Since we were sharing and all. -=-=- Luke: "Really??" Me: "No. I made that up just now." -=-=-=-=- Pull.

Prolly not if he jumps it first. The real question is: would she be pissed if you pulled high? -=-=-=-=- Pull.

Yeah, I've packed a few with less than 8 inches. They opened fine. I think. I'll try and work on finishing my stows the perfect length, of course, but I figure as long as I can get it to fit in the pack with the risers in the right place, it'll be fine. If I get a line twist, it was probably "body position". -=-=-=-=- Pull.

In Snohomish, they only have corn like once or twice a year. The rest of the time, it's so wet the corn rots away. I think my favorite post-corn crop is, after the second corn of the year, the seagull crop. Pumpkins are cool, too; they look like flying fish roe from 2k. I think my least favorite crop is the pre-corn cow dung potpourri. It's like they increase the range on their sprayers every year and now they're slinging liquified poo almost a thousand yards. Climbout is stinky. Oh, and one time the turret was spraying both lanes of the highway. Lucky for me I took my car that day. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

If he's doing battery-lighted alti night jumps, he should know how to wind his alti. Is bmoore21184 perhaps asking whether there is any harm in adjusting the altimeter a full rotation counterclockwise vs. clockwise? I think adjusting all modern all-mechanical skydiving altimeters is accomplished by rotating the entire contained assembly inside its wrist-mount (or whatever) carrier. However, I still never wind mine all the way around, and if I put it up to 6k or 10k or whatever for creeper practice, I make sure to set it back to zero via the opposite direction so it never makes a complete rotation. Yeah, I'm 99% sure that's unnecessary, but my manual didn't say either way and I don't want to take a chance. I'm so paranoid sometimes. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

Student gear - BOC or sping loaded pilot chute?
FrogNog replied to wayne's topic in Safety and Training
I agree that having someone watch is good because they can debrief the student. But with S/L (or IAD) progression once the student leaves the plane, he is on his own. If he's pulling his own ripcord or hackey or whatever, ain't nobody else gonna do it for him. -
Hey, go easy on these students. It took me around a dozen (or two dozen) jumps before I stopped being afraid of falling out of the plane. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

When it gets harsh I stop reading and go on to the next one. I'm a big boy. So, really, I have no idea if chopchop is harsh; it doesn't matter to me. PlayThing, however, is HOT. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

When the president talks about backing an ordinary bill, I am a little worried, because I know it has to get past Congress first. Yes, they push through some weird stuff, but they usually do a good job of miring things in general. When the president talks about backing a constitutional amendment, I am less worried. This is a bill that, if passed by the U.S. Congress, will then have to be approved by a majority of states' lawmaking bodies before it becomes law, right? And U.S. Congress has to pass it by a 2/3 majority, then 3/4 of the states have to approve it. I'm not worried about 13 states having a (per-state) majority of state congresscritters who are scared whitless of giving up the LGB vote. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

I will wholeheartedly agree as soon as someone explains to me what is the source of authority for the government to ensure these benefits. And in that answer, I think the answer to gay marriage will also be found. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

Can you ask them to send you a swatch? It seems reasonable that a mfgr looking to sell an item with that kind of sticker price would do it. Not sure if you're trying to see the effect of an entire gold cell / canopy, or just the exact color of the material. A scrap will really help if it's the latter. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

May I compassionately suggest root beer? It, like beer, builds a better arch. And you don't have to wait for the beer light! -=-=-=-=- Pull.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to do it. (As in, I'm very sure I'm not going to do it.) I'm pleased to have thought of most of the problems people listed so far, including the "half-hitch round yer flap(s)" one. None of these risks is worth the very minor benefit of not having to make the rest of the stows. At best it would shave my pack job from 60 minutes to 55. I'll stick with regular pack jobs. Even proper free-stowing sounds cool but I don't see it gaining me anything. OK, I'll file this underbaked idea in the same place I put BASE jumping. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

lowbie says she don't need no steenking cypress...
FrogNog replied to pds's topic in Safety and Training
I went through this same thinking myself, but then convinced myself that in my post-graduation "career", my time of highest risk would be right after I got off student status and got my own gear. So I'm coughing up the extra dough for the insurance, delaying my rig by a few months. (Winter is the perfect time to do this in these parts.) -=-=-=-=- Pull. -
Another stupid question: first pack job

Word. I carry around two canopies, sooner or later I durn well better get a two-canopy jump! -=-=-=-=- Pull. -
I believe it was Phree I saw saying that he doesn't do all his stows. The locking stows at least, but not all of the rest of them, and leaves like 8 feet of line just coiled in the container. I'm considering doing this myself. Probably not soon (Winter causes uncurrency around here), and probably not before my own personal gear arrives. So this thread is about what's wrong with not doing all the line stows after the locking stows. What sorts of hideous things can go wrong? Why do we even bother doing the extra stows if line dump (provided there is no bag dump) doesn't really cause problems? -=-=-=-=- Pull.

Reminds me of the time I waited a long time, tired, first in line at the terminal in St. Louis to try and get in one of the legroom rows - the emergency exit rows on the wing. Guy arrives behind the counter and while he's getting me the seat, he remembers to ask "you're in good physical shape, for the door requirements, right?" And I'm beat so I just say "Oh, yeah, I open airplane doors and jump out all the time." Poor guy, but he handled it well. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

Get a hot GF (or BF; EO here) who gets up at or before your wakeup time. Then you'll get up when she (or he) does so you can get some eyeball time. Note that this person must be beautiful first thing in the morning when she (or he) is probably half covered in drool and is wandering around like a disappointed zombie. And you have to consider looking at this person mostly naked as some sort of constantly-valuable pleasure. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

If I had an unlimited checking account, I think the only time I would return to DZ.com is to see where and when the next boogie is gonna be. And I'd probably just pay someone to tell me while I packed. (Yeah, with an unlimited checking account, I'd still pack my own gear. It's not about being cheap, it's about being sure.) -=-=-=-=- Pull.
