  1. I am happy to hear that he's leaving because it's what feels right. That's the best reason to do anything, I think. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  2. A bruised jumper-friend recently showed me her rig, where they cut the stopper stitching to unfold them and pass them through the hardware. Obviously this will take time, but if time is available, it's less or no webbing to cut. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  3. 1. I have accidentally run over, and probably killed, a chicken while commuting to work (over an hour each way) on my bicycle. 2. I am a mild synthesthete. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  4. Sweet! How do you do that? I want to do it! -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  5. $550 more for a new main and new, fitted rig is a small difference in price for a large difference in feel. It makes me think the used deal wasn't all that cheap. Not saying that's a bad thing - it just sounds like you have a decent budget. I paid quite a bit more for new harness and main over used, and I have been very happy. My rig is gorgeous, it fits super, and the I still have that "new main canopy" smell. (The reserve has been used once, I unpacked it and saw no blood, so it must work OK .) -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  6. Er, no, I guess it wouldn't. All but one of those links goes to two people flying downplanes. None of the "I'm going to die!" single-person downplanes in the pictures. Sorry. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  7. Did this work for you? http://images.google.com/images?q=downplane&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en Not sure if any of the downplanes on the first page are good enough for you... -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  8. Best if the shot isn't lead. That stuff is toxic. "Big Environment Theory" is different from "Big Sky Theory". -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  9. Take heart - at least we get to use standard trigger weights; cops in some municipalities (especially NY, I believe) have to use those super-stiff springs to prevent "accidental firings". Good luck putting the bullet where you want it with a 20-pound pull. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

    Retrosexual

Point of order: it is Republicans (or a significant subset of Republicans) that earn the rap for making laws that intrude into bedrooms. Not sure if this directly contradicts the point meant in the post, but something to mention. So, in total, am I right in understanding that a Retrosexual could also be called a "Reactionary"?
  11. Has fewer jumps than I do. Or just acts like it sometimes. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  12. Except, of course, that if you have a "floating PUD" and you choose to immediatly fire your reserve or your cypres fires, your main container is closed and there is almost no risk of a main reserve entanglement. t I have to admit this scenario is way rosier than the comparable throw-out scenario(s). -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  13. This is why I don't live in England. (Or California.) -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  14. Is there also a parallel between these things and shoes and gloves? For me there is. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  15. Repost, different forum, more reasons. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  16. Bees are a big one. Countless honeybees (tens of thousands per colony, several to dozens of colonies per location, unknown number of acres per location) are used for fertilizing fruit and nut trees. I thank a bee every time I eat an almond. Ooh, and bonus points, honeybees are small, furry animals! Woo! -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  17. Toughie. I'm going to have to go with Chemical Brothers because I think they have more originality and diversity. Or to put it another way, they are more freaky. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  18. Wow; glad I read this digest of an excerpt of Real TV's latest frame on skydiving - now I know to be careful on my first balloon jump at exit. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  19. My friend uses the term "chicken-head" instead of "chick" when he wishes to make it clear he does not respect the woman. He felt "chick" was too common, and therefore left his level of respect ambiguous. In my usage, "chick" has for the most part become as acceptable as "dude". Sometimes I use "babe" instead, to make sure things are in a positive light. There are plenty of words downhill from "chick" when needed. I rarely use them, except when I'm talking to my GF and it's a mood thing. (Don't ask; you know she like it like that; etc.) -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  20. comepletely untrue. a floating pud means that your pilot chute is still in the container, an the pin is still in. but your pud handle is unvelcroed, IE floating. the procedures for this are, try once try twice, (altitude allowing of course) then go for the reserve. unlike with a PC in tow. it has almost no chance of the main deploying from the lack of pressure on the divider wall. definetaly not the same as a PC in tow I meant they are moral equivalents, not exactly the same thing. I felt the comment I replied to was saying "people with throw-outs get PCs in tow; why not just all switch to pull-out to solve this, since they don't get PCs in tow?". So my point was that pull-outs may not get PCs in tow, but they have something else that can go wrong: floating pud. It is my understanding (based on zero pull-out jumps) that a short/weak pull can free the pud from its storage place but leave the container closed. If this happens, the jumper has a total and it's time to begin EPs, which you have nicely described.
  21. I had the same dilemna when I was at a used gear dealer's place, and I asked some fellows from my home DZ who were there at the same time, and the general answer I got was: Nothing fits like something made custom for you. My first jump on my Infinity sized to me was shocking - I had no idea leg straps could be anything remotely approximating comfortable. I'm totally happy I got a container/harness sized to me. And because I knew I was going to dirty it up, I hosed it down with a couple coats of ScotchGuard before I started jumping it. I will be sad if my rig gets dirty, but in perspective, the rig will still do the job and fit well, and that will make me happy. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  22. That's not what I meant. What I meant was that to a whuffo, a problem seems to have a cheap solution; hey see the price to ship and fix, and that's all they add up. But a skydiver also figures in the cost of renting a rig in the meantime, because he must jump!
  23. *** Or in an astonished voice say to yourself; "When the Hell did I eat THAT!?" "Who... does number two... work for?!" -=-=-=-=- Pull.
  24. My first 2 jumps were pure electric terror. Far, far different from my jumps now. (Well, most of them. ) I tell my whuffo friends who ask what skydiving is like that it's like a ride with a lot of different parts, and perhaps the most special, freefall, is like swimming in a pool of clear, thin water you can breathe. I've had some whuffo friends stop and think after hearing that. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
