I just had a small flood in our basement and my rig was sitting up on the floor. The whole bottom of it (main canopy and BOC) was soaked. Ive opened it up and layed the whole thing out. Is there anything I need to be concerned about. The lines are compoletely drenched. How bad is this going to be for them and the canopy itself? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks. .-.

How do you define a High Performance Landing?
Hazarrd replied to lawrocket's topic in Safety and Training
I don't do high performance landings, but I would say that it is any toggle input or front riser input that is initiated within 10 seconds before your flare. Of course minor input from your toggles is sometimes needed before landing, so I don't really consider that a high performance landing. .-. -
What is a dash 27 Porter? Also, is it going to be hard to get on the chopper/balloon loads if I just show up on Saturday around noon? .-.

It's better to take a long walk back to the dropzone than take a short ride in an ambulance. Skydiving is more addictive and more expensive than Heroin. .-.

If it's in good condition you should be able to get around $1200 for it. I was looking for a Sabre2 170 about a month ago and found only 1 used one for sale. I opted to just by a new one since I was only saving a couple hundred bucks. From what I've heard, Sabre 2's (150-190) are in high demand for beginners since they are such great canopies. Good luck. .-.

I was at the DZ 3 weeks ago and one of the new instructors there told me that he had a chute in tow. He reached behind and yanked real hard and it opened. He said he would never do it with a tandem but he had decent altitude to do it on himself. I gave it some though and I think I would go for the yank, I don't really see a reason not too unless you are extremely low. I think that yanking it will almost always get the parachute out for you. .-.

I am flying out of town next week and want to carry my rig on the plane which has a Cypres on it (the rig, not the plane ) I know some people have no problems getting through, but I want to be sure. I talked to someone who is high up on the chain with the TSA and he said he needs more information on the Cypres, as in details. I told him it is FAA approved (i think this is correct?) and that it deploys my reserve. Does anyone have a good idea about what other information I should give him? Thanks. .-.

Thanks again guys for the great suggestions. Crappy weather on the east coast all weekend so I probably wont get to practice packing much. Hopefully it's blue skies elsewhere .-.

This looks sweet, can't wait for it to come out. It's almost like an idiot-proof deployment bag :) .-.

Well, I think there are defeinitely good reasons to have an AAD. Getting knocked unconcious in the air is defintely a possible situation. Not as much as losing altitude awareness, but you never know. .-.

Thank you for the great feedback everyone!! Most appreciated .-.

I am new to skydiving (54 jumps) and recently purchased used equipment and a new Sabre2 canopy. I have packed it 3 times and jumped it and everything has been fine. It has about 20 jumps total on it now. I have a lot of trouble getting it in the deployment bag so I usually end up having to stuff most of the canopy in the bag after the initial step of getting both s folds in there. My question is how safe is this to do? I usually get the 2 s folds in and then put the first stow on and then stuff the rest in. I am worried that I could be messing the lines up. How likely is this to cause a line over or another malfunction? Thanks. .-.

I know they are only 6 bucks so I've been told they are worth having, but I want to see how many people have actually used it before. If you have used one, please post what it was for. Thanks! .-.

Wow, that is really strange. But don't feel bad, I have 34 jumps and I still don't have my A liscense. I need to figure out that thing they call "packing." .-.

what is the proper technique for deploying your pilot chute?
Hazarrd replied to outofit's topic in Safety and Training
On my 13th or 14th jump I was doing a hop&pop from 3,500 feet. I was stable on exit, but became unstable and on my back after 1-2 seconds. I had to pull because I was at 2,500 (my hard deck) and the pilot chute wrapped around my leg. I shook my foot for a good 3-4 seconds and it finally gave way. Probably shouldn't have tried to shake it off, but I got lucky. Definitely make sure you are stable when pulling, but don't sacrifice the pull for stability. .-. -
I just purchased a used rig that came with a Cypres. Unfortunately the person was unable to send me the card that you can present at airport security to explain the AAD. Is there a way to purchase another one or get it somewhere? Thanks. .-.

I just purchased a used Javelin J2 that came with a Cypres and a PD160 Reserve. When I recieved it, I took it to my DZ to have it looked at. Approximately 10 people looked at it and they all said it was in great working order. I left it there for the week to get the reserve re-packed and make sure it was in good condition. When I got back to the DZ today to look at it, I was told by the rigger that the container has a problem. I was told that the lower reserve flap has too much extra material. The rigger showed me how the reserve pilot chute can be pulled out of the sides of the flap fairly easily. There is about a 1 inch gap on each side which definitely isn't good. I only have about 20 jumps, so I don't know what exaxtly the problem is. However, I want to know what anyone thinks about this. I just find it kind of odd that no one, including the rigger, noticed any problems before the re-pack. I don't have any pictures...but hopefully someone can help. Thanks! .-.

I graduated from AFF this past Monday. I had to repeat Level 5. Honestly, just relax in the air as much as you can. I have 17 jumps now and the nervousness while in the plane has STARTED to go away slowly. It's a lot of pressure when you have to worry about performing certain things in the air while only having jumped a few times! Think about it. So just stay as focused as possible and just think ahead to when you graduate and can jump on your own. It is completely worth it. Good luck and I'm sure you will graduate soon! .-.

I am just getting into skydiving and looking for main canopies right now. I am right now primarily interested in getting a Spectre or Sabre 2 170. From what I have heard, both of the canopies sound pretty much the same. Can someone elaborate on the major differences I will find in each one and any suggestions for choosing one over the other? I am loading 1:1 and under and don't plan to do anything radical with the canopy for now, just open and land it. Thanks. .-.

Yesterday, on my last jump, I did a hop and pop from 3,500 ft. I had a stable exit and become unstable after about 2 seconds. I rolled onto my back and back and forth, and I knew I had to pull so I pulled unstable. Pilot chute wrapped around my leg, I panicked and started kicking it and it came off. I got lucky, but I am curious as to what anyone else would have done if they were at 2000 ft and it was still on their leg. Emergency procedures definitely? Thanks. .-.

Yep. I've already been talking to Martin. He is actually inspecting the rig that I plan on purchasing. From what he was telling me, I should be fine with the 170. I just like to get input from as many as possible. Thanks

Heh, sorry to create such a comotion over one little question I was merely looking for some advice as to what some good beginner canopy brands are. My instructors have already OK'd me to fly a 170 main and 160 reserve. Also, I have only jumped a 230 F111 so far. I have been told that ZP mains are much different from F111 though so that I should be fine after a few more jumps. Any thoughts on that? Also, I plan on jumping on the 190 F111 student rig they have...In my mind, I am understanding that a 230 F111 is comparable to a 170 or 190 ZP main. Is that true at all? .-.
