Can you help me identify these skydivers?
Hazarrd replied to MarkR's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Looks like a Javelin Odyssey on the left side, and maybe a Vector 3 on the right? .-. -
You may not have to be a rigger to sew, but are you sure you can design one with the right materals and configuration. It would be a hell of a mess if it came off or came apart in freefall. Do you know the difference between Type III and Type IV? Hmmmmmm? .-.

Frustrated...Anyone else have this problem?
Hazarrd replied to xlh883's topic in Safety and Training
It is possible to reply with everything all in one post .-. -
Congratulations

One thing I think everyone can agree on about using a Cypres is that if your rig has one, you should ALWAYS make sure it's turned on. That one time it's off could be the time you need it. The same with seatbelts. That one time you don't wear it while backing out of the driveway, you could get slammed. I'm a hypocrite in saying this since I've jumped without mine on a few times accidently. But thats besides the point .-.

As a last resort you can try and sell it as new. You won't get full price, but you'll have a nice looking canopy. Sorry to hear they fucked it up .-.

Anywhere to do chopper jumps around MA?
Hazarrd replied to Hazarrd's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I live in Boston and I really want to do a chopper jump, well probably more than one Anyone know of anywhere within a 2-3 hour radius that has a chopper or will be having one in the near future? Thanks. .-. -
Ahhh! Want to buy, but I know so little...
Hazarrd replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
QuoteI got new gear for $2,000 from someone who gave up the sport - container, main, reserve, 2 year old cypress, brand new bev suit, alti, and gear bag. Quote How is that considered "new gear" ? .-. -
I won't jump without one. I figured I may as well come out and say it, who cares. Edit: However, I should clarify and say that I must not care THAT much about jumping with it on seeing as I have about 3 jumps without my Cypres turned on (unintentional). I have been in the plane on 2 of these jumps and realized it and jumped anyways. So I guess I will jump without one .-.

Doesn't the most recent Cypres save that was posted in the Incident forum give most people enough of a reason to use an AAD? .-.

I don't think thats the case at all! I am a college student and am pretty much broke. I'll take the extra 20 minutes to make a weight belt if its possible. I'm not a sewer but I am sure I can figure it out. .-.

Go to your local K-Mart or Wal-Mart or Target store and buy a couple of sets of ankle weights (Reebok makes a suitable set, and there are other brands too). They have different weights available depending on how much weight you need. Then sew them together to make a belt. Add an extra strap for security. Total cost around $25, looks just like the $100 ones, complete with zippered pockets for the weights. Thanks for the advice, I think I am going to try and do what you posted. .-.

I searched around for 3-4 weeks and found a nice '98 javelin in real good shape. Bought it with a PD160 Reserve and 2000 Cypres for $1500. I bought a brand new Sabre 2 170 canopy which was around $1500. The key is, don't rush if you find a used rig you think is good for you. There are plenty out there. Also, being that the season is coming to an end (atleast here in Boston) I would assume more people will be selling their rigs. Look around on eBay and if you have the money, buy a new one. Although, I was told by many that even if I had the money not to buy a new one as my first rig. Good luck, and talk to your instructors .-.

What are some advantages/disadvantages between the two options? Are there other options? How concerned should I be by increasing by wing loading which is only at about 1.05 right now. Thanks .-.

I am in the market for a weight vest of some sort. I understand there are a few different types. I'm not really sure what to get or even where I can get them. Appreciate any information. Thanks .-.

I've always thought that it would be funny to show up at a DZ and do level 4 (whichever one it is where they release you) and go into a heads down. Not that I can do it, but I think someone should .-.

It took me FOREVER to learn how to pack, and I still suck at it. I sat home on weekends with my own rig and would keep packing and packing. I finally understood the whole concept of what I needed to do, however I still have problems with getting it into the bag. I've gotten frustrated to the point where I would punch my canopy (haha, i know, it sounds stupid). I feel it's definitelty one of the hardest things to learn in skydiving, initially atleast. But I promise, once you figure it out, you will "see the light." Keep at it, you will get it soon. .-.

Do I need to declare that my cypress (has an explosive charge) Yes, make sure you tell them the thing is full of explosives, they usually don't mind. Definitely search for posts on this. The 1 time I flew with my rig (last month) they didn't say anything the first leg of the trip and the second leg they asked for my Cypres card and they waived me through. I accidently had my hook knife with me, and they didn't even say anything. .-.

I had first reserve ride last week which was a total. It opened somewhat hard and I was sore for 2 days. I was told this is what's supposed to happen though. .-.

Jump 83 was first reserve ride .-.

I'd recommend a Sabre2 if you have the money. I got a 170 Sabre2 new at 15 jumps (after demoing one at my DZ). It's definitely a real nice canopy. I was also told to look into a Spectre... .-.

I had my first cutaway yesterday (high speed total) and I lost both handles. I never really trained myself to do anything but pull the handles in the right order. Now that I have done it once, I'd like to keep both handles in case I ever have to cutaway again. What do you guys train yourself to do so that you keep both handles??? Thanks! .-.

Answer: Untie your shoes. Why you ask, because it gives you something to do before you bounce. I was told just take one shoe off and shove it up your ass. The FAA will never figure it out .-.

Is this something that has been covered in other posts before? I recently purchased a Pro-Track. I was wondering how accurate it really is. Just curious if this is something that has been discussed before and is known to be an issue. For $300 the damn thing better work like a diamond. .-.

Just wait, you'll have it at the beginning of next season. .-.
