  1. Little snow out here this season. I've only skied about 8 hours to date -- making my season ticket pretty expensive per hour. Spring is upon us.
  2. Yeah, my wife's mom got those when she got old too.
  3. I got my first grand-niece yesterday on Friday the 13th.
  4. Interesting. The "live free or die" guys are the highest, as one might expect.
  5. Free Falling - Tom Petty Parachute - Ingrid Michaelson
  6. We were all lucky when I grew up; no computers, no wireless phones, no video games. I didn't have a phone (if you mean a cell phone) until about 28 years after I got out of grad school (which is when I bought my first car), and rarely watched TV when I was a kid. That said, I'm pretty addicted to streamed video lately, where you can binge watch an entire series in a couple of days.
  7. This one wasn't high enough to reach terminal, but has pretty good form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cjwiElAvyw Title of the video should be base jumping, not skydiving cat.
  8. I thought all of those lands were immigrated by those A-S folks. I guess that depend on what the definition of "is" is.
  9. *** This is an any reason map. The one I was focused on was the lack of vaccinations for "personal belief." Those are the ones I thought told the story. There are some other reasons for not receiving vaccinations. Which ones are not going to vaccinate kids due to personal belief is what this is mainly about. And in that category there is a bit of a riot toward the blue areas. There Are exceptions but I saw a fairly identifiable correlation. Here's a school by school PBE list for California. In the top 50 or more (least vaccinated), all are Christian, Waldorf, Montessori, or public charter schools. No Waldorf school has less then 33% personal belief exemption, and they range up to 87%. You can search, so find particular schools or counties.
  10. The low immunization rate in Marin has been a topic for years. The map updating lags a bit. Here is one article from the last day, discussing new cases. http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Measles-outbreak-Marin-dad-wants-school-to-ban-6046865.php http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Two-Measles-Cases-Confirmed-in-Marin-County-Both-Children-Unvaccinated-Health-Dept-290325191.html
  11. I notice that on the cfr.org map, there are ZERO cases of measles in those three counties, but there are 22 cases in R-voting Orange County. Not that I think that it is an R or D thing -- just pointing out the fallacy of your example.
  12. "Don't even bother looting up there; it's not worth it."
  13. Ditto. You guys sound like a bunch of whiny union members. Q: Why is Obama going to India? A: To visit our jobs.
  14. Meanwhile, you can get your Gillian fix by streaming The Fall series on Netflix.
  15. When he pops a rod does his eye swell shut?
  16. I'm pretty sure that I would have done better over the years by simply using SPY or MDY index funds, which have very low expenses, rather than individual stocks. My wife has been in some broker suggested funds (not ETFs), which have underperformed the index funds, even before they extracted ~1.4% per year expenses.
  17. These days, that might require the attached hair color.
  18. My cousin was born missing a part of his eyelid, and they used his foreskin to effect a repair. It worked out fine -- he just looks a little cockeyed.
  19. So sad. Did it survive/heal? It did! A lot of time needed for it to heal, but we eventually released it and I tracked it for a while before the tag fell off. You should have wrapped the shell in a kevlar/resin combo to make it Rottweiler-proof. Or just have taught it to shoot.
