  1. I'm hoping we will have some other candidates...
  2. Lighten up...it was a joke. I was serving in the Navy right after highschool. See, you were under government care.
  3. I'm a long time member of the Church of the Repeated Ascension, to which I tithed for 40 years. My shoulder is slowly getting better, 2 years post-surgery, so maybe I will be jumping tithing again soon.
  4. You know, like poinsettia. Not toxic, but not food. May give you a tummy ache.
  5. He probably saw that, but the R's are in control of Congress, so it's still a valid point.
  6. Interestingly enough, though, they must have the same polarity, since they repel. It must be y'all's magnetic personality. It is polarized around here, but not magnetic.
  7. Yeah, will he might be running into the same situation that my family would face -- not being able to realistically get insurance elsewhere, due to previously existing conditions. Be interesting to know whether Congress members have the same difficulty finding anyone to accept the ACA insurance, as many others have reported. Two doctor offices, out of three I've been in the past few months, have little signs at reception saying that they do not take ACA coverage (I think one was specifically ACA coverage by a certain insurer). If I could afford good insurance, I would probably retire within a year. By "afford" I mean that I would be happy to pay $30k per year for insurance and medical expenses for my wife and I.
  8. Wherever you got that paragraph left out the following two: 2. Child of U.S. Citizen Parent and U.S. National: A child born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions acquires citizenship at birth if at the time of birth: •One parent is a U.S. citizen and the other parent is a U.S. national; and •The U.S. citizen parent was physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a continuous period of at least one year. 3. Child of U.S. Citizen Parent and Foreign National Parent A child born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions acquires citizenship at birth if at the time of birth: •One parent is a foreign national and the other parent is a U.S. citizen; and •The U.S. citizen parent was physically present in the United States for at least 5 years, including at least 2 years after 14 years of age. ______________________ So, he is a citizen under one of those, depending on whether his father was considered a US national or a foreign national.
  9. I predicted, 8, came up 7.6. If I change from employed and pretty happy to retired and very happy, it jumps to 8.1
  10. "Anyone can file a prospective state ballot measure at a $200 fee, " Well, that could provide some amusement.
  11. Actually, they can go up a compounded 2% per year, plus any bond issues that are passed. My next door neighbor built her house in 1966, and paid $1956 in property taxes in 2014. I paid $7300 in 2014 (about $3700 when I bought in 1987). My neighbor across the street paid $12,800. All are worth within 10% of each other, with they guy paying the most having the house with the least market value. I'm 25 minutes out from Mountain View, where you get 3600 sq ft on an acre, with a helluva view, for less than the house price you quoted above.
  12. see, to me, THAT makes more sense to be tax free than exempting the organizations I might agree, or not, about the organizations. I definitely am against deductions for charitable contributions and mortgage interest. If you want to contribute to a cause, go right ahead (as do I), just don't ask for a reduction in your taxes. If you want to buy a house to live in and need to borrow money (as did I), go right ahead, just don't ask for a reduction in your taxes.
  13. From the link you posted, one patient was told she would have to find another doctor when she refused to answer her doctor's question about guns. Do you agree with a doctor being able to refuse treatment if a patient refuses to answer? In the current world of online reviews, sure, make my day.
  14. My uncle has just under 1000 acres in Henry County, Georgia. Mostly fallow or wooded, some leased to farmers. A few years ago there was some weed found growing on his land. Nothing to do with him, just "farmers" farming for free on the sly. He does have a large vegetable garden. Not sure whether he has okra, but probably. That is some might fine looking okra in the linked article. We rarely see it looking that good in the stores in San Jose. That homeowner is growing a variety of okra I have not. His leaves look much more like marijuana leaves than those of the more common okra variety.

  17. Now Biden is getting drawn in. http://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/joe-biden-releases-both-e-mails-written-while-vice-president
  18. ***Chubacca This, right here, is why you guys chronically don't stand a chance right out of the starting blocks. Yes, you guys like to say it makes no difference, but in reality it only makes "no difference" to yourselves. Give this man a Bell's. Your right. he deesirves one. You're*, deserves*...damnit Well, it IS his right.
  19. http://www.alaskanbeer.com/our-brew/year-round-beers/white.html Meh. www.deschutesbrewery.com/sites/default/files/PBF.jpg Just how many polar bears are in Illinois? At $35 entry, probably not many.
  20. Other than take away your "Shift" key, what have they done?
  21. I've jumped from a Grumman Tiger, but a high wing would be safer. A Cessna 150/152 or a 172 would be good. IIRC, opening the window will make it easier to open the door. I haven't read part 105 in decades, but your pilot will probably need to be wearing a rig.
  22. Exiting a non-jump plane can be a bit more difficult that from one with a jump door.
