  1. Severe injury to my checking account. Every time it starts getting better, I re-injure it. Sprained ankle, landing on a large dirt clod. Out from jumping for 6 weeks.
  2. You have Gooobers in your family. Admit it. Who is the black gooober in the family?
  3. Almost all. Some quit a long time ago, some quit after they got hitched, some died jumping, some drifted away. After all, it has been a few years. Two weeks before my first jump, I didn't know I was going to make one. I don't think that I would have thought I'd still be at it, 33 years later. Rehab is for quitters!
  4. Sure; they should just name it Atlantis.
  5. I don't. I just pay more. But something has to go, at least for most folks. I've been wondering for years how to make money, or at least not lose it, when the price of energy goes up. I think investments such as my GF's condo at a ski resort are going to be negatively impacted by the increased cost of getting there, and the price of heat once there. Couple that with a deflation of the housing bubble, and things will get nasty. I expect the price of housing further from the jobs to be impacted more than that closer in. Wish I'd bought a block of 50 tickets last time I was at the DZ. I wouldn't be surprised if that $13 price were gone next week.
  6. I was referring to the Byron boogie, which is advertising a King Air and a Twin Otter. Of course that boogie is worth it, just for the naked slip 'n slide.
  7. Why pay for food that you wouldn't eat if it were free? The boogie should bring enough extra business that modest ferrying of aircraft shouldn't cost extra. Here in NorCal, ferried boogie aircraft are often no different than those available locally, and loads are usually backed up more than normal jump weekends. Good to have more airplanes and people to do formation loads, otherwise what's the advantage?
  8. Cuddle Party Be sure to check out the rules. Of course, this runs totally counter to Ramon's sage advice: Dating rules
  9. Ooh, can make pointy Madonna bra, in edible form.
  10. Well you have to make waffles for whoever you sleep with... it's a new tradition I suggest you bring one of these heart shaped irons, if you want to feel the Byron love.
  11. F'ing amazing. I estimated $200, in 1972, which give $912.11, same as you. Doesn't include the fact that I was jumping my own rig starting on jump 8, which would be another ~$980 bucks today.
  12. It provides a bit more drag, so you can fall slower. A small change can be quite significant.
  13. Generally good, but not the best for really large formations. The people on the second wave were complaining that those of us on the first wave were higher than they were, making it difficult for them to see us without breaking the efficiency of their track. The solution was for our tracking leader to start off for the first ten seconds in a steeper track, then flatten out. I expect to see Rusty add that to the official trackoff plan this year.
  14. Let them make their own decision, when they can legally sign a waiver.
  15. Too early to tell. It could be a himmicane.
  16. Totally lame, but mine opened with a peak of 890.
  17. I like the spandex. No matter how I wad the pilot chute in there, it can be readily pulled out. On my previous rig, the spandex lasted 1200+ jumps. I replaced the pocket before selling it to its new owner. Either material works fine, so get what you like.
  18. The airlocks don't do anything significant to the glide. The Samurai seems to be trimmed a bit flatter than the Katana, but the Katana can fly very flat, to get back from a long spot, by pulling down a bit on the rear risers. The larger pack volume of the airlocked design doesn't mean that you can use a smaller canopy. These two are pretty comparable, with the Katana providing, in my opinion, a slightly better flare. I like the Samurai handling better on front risers. The Samurai opens more on heading, but more firmly.
  19. There was evidence of a line snagging on the main flap, as reported somewhere here on DZ, and I think in Skydiving. Maybe it could have been cleared, maybe not.
  20. Is your Klitana still really slippery when it is being stuffed, or has it really gotten broken in? Is its opening always good?
