  1. just curious Tom, do you use 12 clamps, 3 bungee cords and 2 nails every time you pack a base rig? I can't imagine where to put all those clamps and misc. Are you flat packing or over the shoulder packing? I for one am not a clamper. flat pack aussie style no clamps has yet to fail me. it seems about 50/50 to me the ratio of jumpers using clamps vs. not using clamps at all. maybe someone should make one of those poll thingys. I once managed to jump a rig with 3 clamps still on it in the packjob. it worked. humans make mistakes, just like the dead jumpers who used tools to stow their PC's and forgot to remove them. also, what would your students do if their luggage never arrived to Europe, but they were smart enough to bring their rig carry-on. it is really nice to know how to pack without any tools...
  2. what kind of opening did he have? on heading? was the slider up or down? Am I gonna get banned if I call this guy an idiot? here is another question: would it be still cause for intervention if the guy had a normal base PC, and was planning to track past the rock and then open high above the talus?? I recently went hand held off of a terminal wall slider up with a two parachute system. I had a 180 and decided (after missing my toggles) two things: I would not do that again and that seatbelts are probably better.
  3. yup... a little too close for comfort on that one!! this is cliffhuckstable and me (uncle potato head) at a site named... I DONT WANT TO GET BANNED JUST YET in south lake tahoe ca.
  4. Are those guys getting permanently banned? IP banned? doubt it. and what's this I hear about Tree moving to Twin? didn't I tell him to stay off my bridge???? i guess it is not mine anymore, so i can shut up. My two cents is that this base zone has been really boring ever since CLIFHUCKSTABLE got permbanned and IP banned and got a daughter and a life outside the computer. totally feeling lonely. un ban him and send an email luring him back and then put jimmy H on to balance the forum and we are good to go.

    going fetal

I have seen this 3 times in my four years jumping. it is usually preceded by a bridal wrap or otherwise fearful event that put the jumper very low. it is kind of funny to see them go into the fetal position like it is just so scary they do not want to see what's going on and they just close up into the fetal position perhaps bracing for impact, and then WHAMMO!! they get yanked out of the sky and whipped into line twists or an on-header or whatever their fate brings. how frequently is this going on????? anyone else seen this?

    Busted!

yeah yeah yeah... except these guys are probably more commonly known by their aliases: Hollondaise sauce, Squirrel Shit, Uncle Potato Head, and Dead Man Walking. busted. guilty as sin. BANNED from zion. Federal Probation. Damn it.
  8. Be sure to take a fist sized or slightly bigger bite of lines on that first line stow, perhaps that is what you call the primary stow (the one that goes under the tailpocket) and DOUBLE wrap it with a thick rubber band, and replace that rubber band as it shows wear with nice new thick tan rubber band. This is effective in preventing the strangely hard openings. that is a must do. also, go with a f111 pilot chute, and 36 is pretty big, so do not use that big of a PC unless you are wingsuiting. otherwise go with preferably a 32inch f111 PC or a 32 inch ZP. it is easy to do the direct stow ineffectively, so if you are relying on that it may not work everytime, although it can work very well, and if you do do that part ineffectively the double wrapped under tailpocket stow will still put you in the realm of perhaps hard but not brutal opening. The smaller PC also helps a ton. you gotta double wrap that one under the tailpocket, it is a no brainer. with that big of a ZP PC, vented canopy and no double wrapped understow... you are just asking for it.
  9. and duct tape?? what the hell would you use the duct tape for? that is just silly.
  10. hello Jaap. Unless your tarp is too big for your vision container, the velcro will not open because of a track or wingsuit jump. it just wont happen. I wingsuit with my vision whenever it pops up in the rotation and I do not think twice about it.velcro works just fine. it is only when the tarp is too big that the velcro rigs want to burst open early. To me this issue is kind of like the dynamic corners thing. in theory it is worth worrying about, but in reality nobody tracks well enough for it to be an issue. I promise you wont have a premature opening as long as your velcro is in OK shape and your parachute fits comfortably in the container. jt
  11. I am a logger, and I know that people who do not log tend to have many many less jumps than they guesstimate. I fall behind on my logging for a month or 3 or 4 and at that point (especially if I am near a benchmark) I always have over guesstimated and am dissapointed when I go and accurately log the jumps I made. The thing is maybe I am at like 480 ish and 6 months go by so I figure I for sure got to 500, then if I never caught up on my logging and a year went by i may claim like 550 or 600 or something, when really in that first 6 months between 480 and 500, I only got like 16 jumps. I have never met an underguesstimator, except maybe Jimmy Halliday, he has been base jumping for 16years or something and still claims to have 200 jumps. I have been jumping for 4 years and I have done at least 60 with Jimmy. 4 years ago when I met him he said he had 150 or 200 jumps or something. bottom line if you do not live in Twin Falls they add up very slowly, especially the special ones, even if you are going hard. another reason is that I have a thing going with myself that at 500 I do 5 flips, 6oo 6 flips etc... it is fun, but I pitched the idea to douggs and he wanted nothing to do with it. I wonder why!?
  12. In reply to: "A complete list of FJC providers can be found at the end of the article here, which is an updated copy of the one linked at the top of this forum." You have omitted Miles Daisher's course. Another option for learning to BASE in Twin Falls Idaho. milesdaisher.com
  13. Tom I am afraid you may have twisted words and facts to paint an ill picture. at Dans event the ITD and city had approved the closure of the jumping side sidewalk for use during the event. All media and any jumpers with a parachute were allowed full access. common pedestrians looking to actually cross the bridge were asked to walk the other side side-walk. all were welcome. any jumper with a parachute packed or unpacked could go and use the sidewalk, rail or platform for jumping, video taking etc.... It really did not make sense for common pedestrians to use the jumping side of the bridge sidewalk because it was completely blocked and they would have had to climb over the platform that would have put them exposed to the 486 ft dropwithout even the protection of a parachute. oh and Faber..please pipe down. You do not live here and you do not know what you are talking about. thanks and perhaps I will see you in twin falls for an enjoyable base jump and a reality based conversation. kind regards to all. jt
