NOICE pic, did you take it? -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. -
Yeah, I have never had problems with my SBC. But I never really to get any further than "We cannot support a configuration if you a running a router" Ok, fine, I do it for living, no worries. I bounce the modem and router power occasionally when their ATM redbacks seem to spass, but that is about it. In areas like mine I wonder about the infrastructure to support this. SBC pretty much quit installing Remote Terminals, because of the legal issues of sharing them. On their side of argument, why would you install a $10 MIL box in the ground, just so other people could run DSL through it and take your business. I am uncertain on the current state of install and legislation. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Dang, I wonder if I can get that drop at an apartment? Kinda doubt it. I have SBC DSL right now and have been very pleased. Actually had DirectTV DSL before the whole attempted echostar merge/selloff/crash and it rocked even more. Right now 1.5/128 is $26.95 for me. So, fiber would be a nice bang for the buck. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Wow...diversity. The poll results point to cheep like a baby chicken. But the posts show some more expensive pricing. I was just curious as I have seen prices going up recently. Makes it even more tempting (if I really needed it to be) to drive a few minutes longer and ride the big birds. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Yep, I got buddies already signed up for the demarc when it finally drops. Good times. Of course I know people that still cannot get decent DSL pricing/availability. Once I hit school and got ResNet, there was no going back for me. Now lets just make sure the RIAA/MPAA f-ers don't make it so we cannot download anything with a 'broadcast' flag. Some netadmin needs to teach them wtf broadcast means. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

I was just curious. I know the current fuel prices are hurting Cessna DZOs. What are you currently paying for a Cessna lift to 10,500? Turbine is a different story, and Jet A is cheaper right now (at least here). So to make things worse, Cessna DZs are having a really hard time at price per grand. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

A good ruben (aka whats your favorite sammich?)
flyingferret replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
Which Rueben? With spicy mustard or 1000 island. I LOVE Ruebens, the 1000 island kind on good dark Russian. There are a few that compete: 1. A good MLT, where the mutton is nice and lean 2. A good loaded meatball sub 3. A Stilton burger at a place called Goose Island right by Wrigley field. It has a burger totally encases in peppercorns, topped with stilton cheese, roasted garlic cloves, and spicy mustard on a black russian bun. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. -
At 7 days out, I just wanted to put this down. No need for a flamewar. Discuss if you like. My prediction is that the least likely outcome is a close election. I think it will be a decisive victory. And I think the candidate to win will be Bush. As far as percentages, I don't know that I have a real idea, but I would say 5%, certainly a larger margin than in 2000. There is some evidence to back the idea of a decisive victory in either direction. I am not really trying to debate Bush or Kerry. I am simply going on the record that given the current state of the campaigns, etc that I feel it will not be near as close as most people are speculating. I am sure the lawyers will be standing by in droves, but I suspect when the result fall, Bush will win in a decisive vistory. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Bill is speaking my language...wow, did not see that one coming As a preface I work for a company that makes exactly these devices for commercial vehicles. There is a very vast amount of information involved, it would take me hours to explain the entire history of the industry. But here is a summary, that I could back up without a doubt given the time: OBCs (On Board Computers, in the business) will be mandated in commercial vehicles, it is only a matter of time. Why? Safety and fuel, it is as simple as that. In the commercial sphere the cost for fleet owners vs. the increased efficiency and evidence in court is phenomenal. My product can tell you if your vehicle had headlights, wipers, brakes applied, trailer temp, RPM, Speed, etc at point of impact. This translates literally into billions in the courtroom. Could this apply to the personal sector? Someday it might. How would you like to prove you did nothing wrong? In our industry, people love to hate our system. But honestly, most of it is Big Brother hype. For a few reasons: the system puts the spotlight on the good drivers who normally struggle to make more than the bad drivers. Obviously this does not apply to personal transportation. Another reason is that most of these systems are passive. The information is extracted at the end of a trip. There are models with cell, satellite, etc, but the costs keep most people from buying these; you have to really want to know where the vehicle is to pay for it. So, the real time monitoring is not really what 'black box' refers to. So, I think it is an obvious choice for commercial vehicles, it very literally makes the roads safer. And if the DOT is at all serious about continuing that progess, OBCs will be mandating within in this decade. This can only be good in my opinion. While much it will not be real time, consider all the hazardous cargo just hauled by a company like Schlumberger alone. If you were answering for it would you want to know where it was? While this point only applies to personal transport to a degree, could it have uses? Locating an elderly relative upon an accident event? Being able to prove your loved one on life support was not at fault? etc. As I said, I work in the industry, but if I did not believe in it, I would not be working in it. If you have questions ask. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

I am in awe you got to speak with him, how amazing that would be. Regarding the Canadians, I think the real sadness was publishing the names of the people involved during wartime. That used to be verboten. At least their American counterpart was named, and I think in one article they were as well. Atrocious. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

Raises a pretty interesting question. There was a similar situation on I-10 in Cali this year, I believe and one here in Arlington, Texas. How do you avoid inconveniencing a whole city while helping save a life? And perhaps I am conspiratorial, but I find myself asking, what might be accomplished maliciously if you could gridlock 180,000 people for a day? I would suspect there are a lot of answer, none very pleasant. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
