Sorry no pics yet, will get some this weekend and then post them. But my Icon is all black with only the reserve flaps being royal blue. Reserve and cut-away are also royal blue. Very nice ..... Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

OK .... Why do you think that going to a smaller canopy is the right idea to get more speed? Why not learn to fly your canopy 100% - and then once you have done that, get it 100% of the time right. Then get a few hundred jumps on it. I have seen a video of Scott Miller swooping a Sabre 170 ..... and he got some good distance. Remember faster does not always mean further, if you are not doing the right technique. You are on the perfect size to learn and make mistakes without killing yourself. np on the reply ...... Get down to your local DZ, I am sure you will see an Icon there, otherwise contact Aerodyne and get them to do a demo for you. Over all the Icon is a solid rig, with many neat safety features. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

I jump th Icon I3 .... at first the Mini Force Risers looked a bit odd. Have spoken to the guys at Aerodyne, and did some basic ground testing myself and am confident there will be no issue. A jumper at our club has cutaway from a main, using the Mini Force risers, and she said there was little to no force on the pull from her spinning malfunction. OK ..... Heatwave 150 - Loaded at 1.35 (enough said). Very good 2-Way with my skydiving mentor, 4000ft tracked off till 3000ft. Good stable clean pull. As the bag left the container I could tell something was up, linetwists induced before inflation of canopy. When canopy was inflated, I was on my back spinning, tried to kick out, but it just resulted in another line twist. 1500ft was my hard deck, hit the handle, rotated onto my belly, and watched as I fell past my mentor (they were under canopy) .... looked down at club and hit the silver. 280 odd jumps .... 100 or so on that canopy. Thanks for the great replies. It has never been an issue before, as I always flew Point on my old 4-Way, and on the Porter you get get out the door and move to the front. No Biggie. I am now flying IC and the whole picture has changed, and with the exit of blocks and randoms grip management is important. We had a few very interesting exits this weekend. We will for sure be doing alot more exit set up, with full gear from our next training weekend. FREE TIME IS LEARNING TIME. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

Ok, so I know we spend hours on creepers, and a few seconds in free fall. But who believes that exit set-up practice is important. to me it's like creeping, FREE TIME. And should be done with all gear and rigs on, makes it more realistic, and it needs to be as serious as creeping or video debriefing. Once your in the door communication can get tricky if a foot or grip is mis placed. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

Just got my Vision 124 back witht he new line set, and I must say it is a whole new canopy. In general the points listed above are 100% correct .....are vast improvement on the old Vision. Well done Aerodyne. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

My Icon I3 is all black, with royal blue reserve flaps. Wioll try get a pic this weekend and post it. My resaon for black is our DZ is very dusty, with red sand, so it's alot more simple to have dark colours. Anyway it make it look alot smaller. Ok, my record with some packing by myslef was 9 on thge Saturday & 8 on Sunday .... We fly a PC-6, I ended up on every second or third load and was finished by Sunday night. The best our DZ has done is 4 jumpers doing 100 jumps each in one day, each with fours rigs and exiting from 2500ft. Sorry I see my comment on currency was not well put. I believe that if your uncurrent it is a big issue to safety while under canopy, and one should be current before being allowed to downsize or move from one type o fcanopy to the next. I also believe that even current jumpers with low jump numbers should not be allowed to fast track to downsizing either. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

Thanks for the replies and some real valid points. - Currency has no bearing on wing loading, we have seen worldwide that even current jumpers, kill or injure themselves on canopies, no matter of wing loading. - Our DZ is 5000ft MSL, so it's a quick canopy DZ, we have an average temp of around 25 to 30 degrees celsius and that adds to be effects on the canopies. - Under such a system a jumper would most likely not go to a 2.4 WL after 500 jumps, as the first 500 would have educated him. Also our DZ requires CI permission to downsize. - Hornets, Sabres and Pilots are seen as square, even if they are marketed as semi elliptical. And these are great canopies for a student and can be flown with alot of fun. - I agree that wing loading is not the only criteria when looking at this, but to the average student or 100 jumper wonder, thats the best way to explain it to him and keep him safe and educated. - Our DZ has three sizes of student Skymasters, all first jumpers use the 285's, and the progress to 235 and 200 for throw out conversions. Some of our students tip in over 220lbs exit weight, so when they down size to the throw outs it's a 1.1 WL, but the canopy is designed to be docile and idiot proof. Where can I get info on the dutch system? i would like to take a look at it. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.
-
You are correct on the lighter jumper vs wing loading issue, and it would have to be adjusted to make allowances for it. Under wing loading a canopy can be just a dangerous as loading a canopy. I used the standard that an average jumper with gear would have an exit weight of around 176 to 187 pounds. Thanks for your input. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

I have read all the posts and replies to all the forums about wing loading etc. All Students up to 100 jumps on Skymasters 285, 235 & 200's After that no higher than the follwoing. 100 - 200 Jumps 1.1 Wing Loading (Square only) 200 - 300 Jumps 1.2 Wing Loading 300 - 400 Jumps 1.3 Wing Loading 400 - 500 Jumps 1.4 Wing Loading 500 and above your own choice. Feel free to PM me if you want to. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.

WOW another quality post my you!! Seems you search the forums to see where you can find any cause to bad mouth Aerodyne. Lets not forget that the manufacturer of the harness you jump, and a spring loaded reserve pilot chute, that failed. It had taken them years of hard work R&D and trial and error, to get to where they are, and now make a solid harness. As for the Icon, they have had issues with leg straps slipping, and have been working on a solution, and have posted bulletins on their website. I have seen the Icon legstraps, slip a few millimeters while moving in the aircraft or walking, this also will happen during free fall movement, but I am not aware of slippage while under tension or under canopy.
