2 Ejected from State of the Union for wearing "message" T-shirts
stoneycase replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Ding Ding! We have a winna!! "The First Amendment is often inconvenient. But that is besides the point. Inconvenience does not absolve the government of its obligation to tolerate speech." - Justice Anthony Kennedy "I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson Oh, and as far as the conflicting reports...well you can just keep on waitin'. I bet ya $10 that the politics of your source play heavily on how they report on the incident(s). At the moment, CNN is just pointing out the conflicting stories(@ least that's what i saw on HN 10min ago), they haven't fallen on one side of the fence or the other - yet. Which part? Are the mentally ill not citizens ("...right of the people... "), or is it illegal to be mentally ill? In response to your initial question: was she a (previously ) law abiding citizen? The answer is a resounding NO. She was fired from her place of employment for mental instability and because there were reasons to believe she would harm herself or others irrationally. Furthermore, she was forcibly removed after being fired by local LEO. What's worse, is she continued this pattern of behavior after moving to NM. She had multiple altercations at the local Clerk's Office in NM and LEO was again involved. Finally, she was cited for "nudity" after an incident at a gas station. The articles I posted can provide more details, should you wish to read further. From the facts, it is safe to say that she was NOT a law abiding citizen. She was a mentally ill person who had already had multiple incidents with law enforcement. IMO, the failures are fairly simple to spot: 1 - she was 'allowed' back into her previous place of employement, even after being fired, and even after having been forcibly removed 2 years prior. 2 - she gained access to a firearm. although it is not known, at the moment, how this was accomplished there are really only a few options: a- purchase legally b- purchase illegally c- receive w/o purchase (gift, family member, found on the street, etc) Speculation never does much, but in this instance, I'd say that either A or C is going to hold true. If it's A, I could go on for hours. If it's C, well, than the only hope those poor employees had went out the window the minute she slipped under the barrier and made her way to the sort facility. Or, you could say, the only hope those employees had, went out the window, when law enforcement turned a blind eye to her repeated offenses and mental illness.

another victim discovered: http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/01/postal.shooting.ap/index.html it's all over our morning local papers, radio, tv, etc. i'm not going to get into the debate about whether or not Joe/Jane "Average" could have done anything to prevent this with their trusty 6shooter/glock. Personally, I think you all are missing the f***ing mark. RTFA'a and you might come to find out that the gun vs anti-gun bull$hit doesn't even apply here. the woman was crazy. mentally unstable. extremely unstable. she wanted to start a paper: the racist press. she worked at that postal facility 2 years ago. the police had to remove her when she was fired. they fired her for being unstable/potentially dangerous to herself/others. the list goes on and on. if you really want to go back and forth on a meaningless argument why don't you try and figure out why this woman was never locked up in the looney bin. better yet, why don't you discuss how her behavior can be this bad in, what i would consider, 2 "government" facilities: postal facility in CA and clerks office in NM. right now, there is speculation that she knew the individuals she shot, and that she targeted them specifically. there is also wide speculation that she targeted minorities in particular, and may have only been "acquainted" with the victims - that is she had no real motive to kill them, other than the fact that she knew they were minorities. another good read, for those of you with enough active brain cells to make it to the end: http://www.newspress.com/Top/Article/article.jsp?Section=LOCAL&ID=564674804502889080 hey, here's a unique idea: armed security guards at a postal facility. no no, that's far too simple. what we really need to do is make sure that all the employees are packing. that'll do it, that should solve everything. about the only thing i can agree with in this thread is that the police are f***ing useless. honestly, if you didn't call them, they really aren't there to help you. and chances are, if you did call them, they're 10 min too late and you're already screwed. fark the police, useless shites. it's far too much to expect law enforcement to pursue this woman, after all, there were no indicators she would ever do something like this.

the woman is totally crazy, practically certifiable...it's a wonder why she wasn't certified looney toon. i live santa barbara, goleta is 10 min up the road. woman = bonkers Does whisky count as beer? - Homer There's no justice like angry mob justice. - Skinner Be careful. I'm going to third this strategy. Definitely agree that the girl will move on emotionally before physically. In fact, I've been told, and I've found, that a girl will sometimes wait for the guy to make the decision about whether to breakup. Kind of the "well i wish he would just be an ass so we can get this over with" mentality. Perhaps the reason why she "chose" the coworker is because she knew that would cross "your line"? I'm not saying she did it on purpose, knowing full well it would piss you off, but it's possible. Look at it this way: now she's someone else's problem. For what it's worth, I hear ya on how shitty the situation is. But you've gotta keep that under control. The best revenge is always "living well". Easiest way to do that, IMHO: Just don't give a shit about her, or anything she does, and move the fuck on.

had no idea...personally, both AC and Ron never rubbed me the wrong way. AC struck me as a "pot-stirrer" which is always fun, and Ron struck me as "that guy who speaks his mind, even though it might piss you off". as far as ron is concerned, i think i've learned quite a lot from his posts. for AC, well, i think i nearly spit coffee on the computer at least a few times reading his threads. there was a post somewhere about Ron, i think it was incidents, i can't recall it at the moment, but it was rather well written and i wish i could copy/paste it here... the perma ban is a biatch, and as rl said, this ain't no democracy. so although i might fly the flag for the both of you, i'm not going to hold my breath waiting for a mod to lift the ban. maybe the comprimise is a men's forum, where we can all pretend we're 12, and throw rocks at one another w/o fear of the consequences. Why my DZ is better then your DZ .....(Warning LONG)
stoneycase replied to lisamariewillbe's topic in The Bonfire
ocean views :) you really can't beat a DZ close to the water, as far as i'm concerned. skydive santa barbara, for those days when you just want to pop into a sit and enjoy the view. skydive santa barbara for those days when VAFB lets one off and an instructor and former DZO get a great shot of themselves falling by a $M rocket. (check out the latest parachutist for the pic). skydive santa barbara for those days when you get off work early and you want to make the sunset load...show me the sunset at 12K, over the ocean, with the islands in the background, and i'll show you a young man without a care in the world. anywhere that i can go, and feel comfortable, is a good dz, imho. i just wish i went more often. i don't have enough experience to give you any solid advice....but, from what i've been told there is a difference between "flying a suit" and "flying your body". seems like there a fair number of exp individuals (at least the DZ's i've been to) that support the "learn to fly your body, then learn to fly your suit" school of thought. i once watched a newb, like myself, get a little razz at the dz for having a brand new flite suit. seems the newbie couldn't sit fly, and really couldn't FF at all. the razz centered around telling the newbie that he should spend some time figuring out to fly his body in a sit, rather than run out and buy a $300 jump suit that would "help him sit better" (newb's words) me personally, i don't own a suit. i have a pair of dakine FF pants. i'll typically use them and a LS T-shirt. either that, or shorts and t-shirt. I take a little pride in knowing that I can sit, and move around fairly well, in nothing but a T and shorts. but i am looking forward to finally getting a custom suit, i won't lie. course with my budget, i'll be at 200 jumps before i even place the order... just my .02 Does whisky count as beer? - Homer There's no justice like angry mob justice. - Skinner Be careful. Ways to piss off a man ... let me count thee ways
stoneycase replied to lisamariewillbe's topic in The Bonfire
oh and because she's not acting, there can be *no* action. yeah right. takes 2 to tango. doesn't matter if she never acts on the interest, if he does. the naievety (sp?) really kills me though, "i've known him for a year, he's never tried anything" sure...you can't know whats in his head anymore than i can. problem is i'm also a guy, so i believe "i know what all guys think". why would she spend time around a guy whom she believes is interested in her, even though she refuses to act, when she's already in a relationship with another guy? to me, that's the $64K question, it's like deliberately putting yourself in the fire, just to see if you'll get burned or not. i'd prefer a little respect from my SO and i'd appreciate it if she spent her time around people that weren't interested in getting her pants while she's with me. for what it's worth, i never restrict, never works. i'm not her mother/father, i have no standing to restrict. but i wont tolerate being played. i'm not an idiot, don't treat me like one. if she wants to spend her time with tons of other guys, then she obviously doesn't need to spend time with me. /look! you found my pissed off button, lol. so surprised nobody has mentioned the jealousy button: hang out/talk with large numbers of guy friends, and then insist that they are all "just friends". when every guy knows damn well that 1 out of every 2 male friends a female has is interested in more than how their day went. /been burned once or twice, turned cynic. Ways to piss women off, Let me count thee ways...
stoneycase replied to funks's topic in The Bonfire
this, imo, is the best and most effective way to piss a woman off. (besides the obvious affair with the sister/mother) i do it religiously, that is, any problems get bottled and put away in storage. the female sees this, tries to bring it all out, and gets extremely pissed when i won't oblige. you end up with a girl that thinks you don't "trust" her, or worse, you won't "talk" to her. basically what rl said: the girl wants to talk about it, while i would rather trash it or bandage it and continue as quickly as possible, she wants me to tell her all my problems so that she will feel equal or important or valued (insert your term here). she's looking for that connection, i suppose. when i don't do any of that she feels the opposite and gets pissed. your problem becomes her problem, and thus your problem x2. what she really doesn't understand, is that most guys, including myself, would rather not bother her with our problems - we prefer her company in an enjoyable atmosphere that doesn't involve me dishing about family, money, work, etc. just let me spend some "happy" time, quit worrying about the fact that i don't open up - and enjoy the idea that i like you enough to not bother you with my own shit. but, funks, i think you should def add: affair with sister affair with mother either of those is sure to land you up shit creek without a paddle. interesting. very glad you are alive to tell the story. that's the part that counts, you walked away unharmed. i suppose you could consider me "pro-gun", though my reasons are different than those expressed in this thread. i find myself agreeing with this type of opinion: The anarcho-capitalist school of libertarianism holds that because compulsory collection of taxes is de facto performed under threat of violence from a State, its subjects have the right to defend themselves from such extortion. as an aside, not trying to be argumentative: i always thought that the use of lethal force in self defense could only be justified if the threat faced was 'extreme' or 'deadly', basically your lethal force was justified because it was equal to the threat you faced. the force being applied is essentially porportional to the threat being faced. so it would seem, if you hypothetically shot and killed one man, you would need to prove he was an extreme or deadly threat. that is, the threat he represents is fairly equal to the force of you shooting him. if he isn't carrying or showing a weapon, would this be easy to prove? i think you'd probably need to take into account the fact that there was a group and the other details, but i genuinely wonder whether your situation would meet the required legal standard. you could also take into account whether or not you could "escape safely", but still, without a weapon on him, or the group, i'm curious. and don't forget, if "the man" doesn't charge you, you still have the civil side to beat. the cynic in me would bet $10 that, given the hypothetical, lawyers would be lining up to assist the family of dead man.
