  1. That was more due to the noise complaints from the neighbors.
  2. See this post and replace "survey" with "juxtaposition" and "democrat" with "republican."
  3. I still think Big Calm is their best album.
  4. "What do most scientists think about climate change?" "Is the economy getting better?" "Was Obama born in the United States?" Seriously... I want anyone to tell me with a straight face that this survey was anything other than contrived and narcissistic democrat ego-porn.
  5. Nobody goes to California anymore, it's too crowded.
  6. Ya know... I was hilarious until you got here.
  7. Rich is when you spend more time worrying about what to do with your money than worrying about what to do with your bills. Which means you can make yourself feel rich or poor at a pretty wide range of incomes. Sometimes having a couple kids is just as stupid as buying a yacht. I mean sure it's nice to name things, but fiscally they're just bad investments.
  8. While it would be nice if the new START focused a little more on getting rid of nuclear bombers (because that's just a good idea in terms of cutting military spending anyway) the treaty could be a hell of a lot worse for us. A 16% reduction in submarine tubes isn't that big of a deal. There's always going to be some back and forth regarding ICBMs and SLBMs because we have more (and better) submarines and they have more (and better / more mobile) ICBM capabilities with all their road-mobile TELs. But the win here for us is that we get to go on refining the SM-3 to our heart's content, which is something that may actually help defend us against an agressive move by DPRK or Iran.
  9. Is this a video? You really shouldn't jump through clouds.
  10. Ah the, "this is obviously a foreign object to me because as you can clearly see I don't know how it works" method of purse holding. An alternative to the running back hold is to just grip the top of the purse closed with one hand and your arm down to the side like an ape ignoring the strap completely.
  11. Ah, go pros... you do realize how dorky those things look right? By the way, another thing I've noticed when it comes to is that people who fast track their way through all the toys tend to fast track their way to being burnt out on the sport too. If you want to get better or, dare I say, good at anything you should be prepared to set goals that extend hundreds of jumps out.
  12. I'm at home and I don't have any reserve slinks laying around, unfortunately, so I can't test it. Reserve slinks are quite a bit more massive than main slinks, but I think if the loops in your pilot chute bridle are long enough it may be possible to pull them through a #4 grommet too. Personally, I use a french link. Yes it can chew up the loops in the bridle, but I find myself replacing my pilot chute frequently enough anyway where that's not the limiting life factor.
  13. That's correct. As I said, I would recommend against using main slinks to attach your pilot chute bridle to your deployment bag.
  14. I just dug out some old d-bags, pilot chutes, and slinks to try it out and it definitely depends on the pilot chute / bag combo. Using a Mirage d-bag (#4 grommet is the relevant characteristic) and a Mirage pilot chute (which has very small loops to route the link through) I'm not sure it's possible to pull a slink through the grommet. But using a Cazer pilot chute, which has longer loops, I was able to pull the bridle through pretty easily (see attached.)
  15. Correct. They have the idea that all money initially belongs to them, and they should get to decide how much of it you deserve to keep for yourself. Not quite I don't think... I think the mindset is more that they (and by "they" I mean pretty much any given politician) take all spending and all receipts that were in place when they themselves walked in the door for granted. From there they only attempt to tackle problems marginally. Nobody actually has any motivation to fix anything, they just want to make little tweaks that gain them popularity.
  16. I would generally not recommend using a main slink to install a pilot chute bridal on a d-bag. As noted in the chuting star video, the reserve slink is beefy enough that it can't get pulled through the grommet, but on some d-bags a main slink very well could. Having the bridle stop link pull through the grommet during deployment can lead to assorted malfunctions.
  17. This was a bit strange - I hadn't heard any talk of it, and suddenly it seems to be a done deal. Worth $200/mo to me, I think. $178/mo. The article doesn't mention contract workers that have to pay the self-employment tax. hmm...
  18. I never really have any trouble understanding what you mean, but I have to admit, sometimes the spellcheck train wreck leads to some funny imagery.
  19. My left ear is actually deformed. I'm missing a good chunk of the top of it. To answer the original thread question, I've been told I have nice eyes/eyelashes... ...but my left eye is screwed up too. There's a blob right at the edge of my iris... ...I wonder if it's a part of my ear and it just got confused...
  20. Don't get me wrong, I'm human, and I admit that I had to take a deep breath when I read your OP. I'm not going to pretend that I don't understand why this story is frustrating just to make myself look better. My reaction to reading the icsc part was, "crap... really? what's the story with this place..." and then I spent the 20 minutes or so reading about the place, things they've supported, and statements their spokespeople have made. Remember to keep the problems of violent international extremists, idiots working for the TSA (btw I actually had a pleasantly uneventful trip to Chicago last week free of pat downs or body scans), and "Sharia-creep" separate. You have to, because there isn't one solution. And don't think that people with my mind set are all frogs in the pot of boiling water. We're people standing next to a few pots of water with clear view of thermometers in each. We don't want to see any of them boil.
  21. I've lost two friends in the ME, both Marines. All good people. My father is selling his house and the realtor was suggesting all kinds of changes he should make. When she got to his study she motioned to his Mameluke sword on the wall and said, "that has to go, you can't have weapons just laying about." I think it took everything in his power not to throw her out of the house. /edited: typo
  22. I'm a little hesitant to accept icsc as a "Wahhabi mosque" as that's a pretty strong (and derogatory) claim to make. I poked around briefly and I don't really see evidence of it in their actions. (If it's any consolation I did note that it's surrounded by a Sizzler, a Buddhist temple, and a Jack in the Box.) As for these particular actions by MPAC, is this really any different from the USPA trying to help educate the TSA about skydiving rigs?
  23. Indeed... ...actually... ... that describes about half the dizzy.com people I've met in person.
  24. I'm worried that your personality and demeanor are physical features. That's uh... that's kinda weird.
