  9. Yep, my brother is left-handed but plays guitar right-handed. Probably because he learned with the only guitars available to him at the time. My parents both right-handed but among us 6 siblings 3 are left-handed and 3 are right-handed.
  10. That sentence is from the US Declaration of Independence ....not the BOR (which protects Americans from our own government). The non-Americans who benefited include, among others, most Europeans, Asians, former Eastern Bloc citizens, and even some Iraqis. What they ultimately do with there "liberty" is now their job. Some have already squandered their new-found freedom. Of course, there are always exceptions. For example, some of Iraqis who say things were better under Saddam were probably the same folks who oppressed and murdered opposing factions ...or at least supported the regime in that effort. They likely didn't want to be liberated from Saddam's tyranny. Also, any Europeans who supported and received benefit from any of the various tyrannical socialist regimes that were spread throughout Spain, Germany, Italy, Russia, etc. They also probably didn't want any of this talk about rights and self-evident truths.
  11. Anyone who thinks this /\ is something the Christian God would say should really read the bible again. No equality, unalienable rights like life, liberty and pursuit of happiness in there. You get no argument here! However, that is how the founders framed our founding principles. Countless millions of people worldwide (Christians, Atheists, Hindus, Taoists and many others) have benefited from those words even as this country struggled with the truth that those same guarantees were denied to some of our own people.

I think it could mean: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." ....and that this singing group believes that the BOR is founded in that principle. I'm sure The Creator was thinking about having troops quartered in our houses, or owning guns, or suits at common law where the value in controversy exceeds twenty dollars, when she was endowing us with our inalienable rights. Well, we really need to adjust that 20 bucks for inflation. But if we tried I'm sure we'd figure out some way to completely f-up the BOR in the process. Whether or not the singing group believes that the Creator wrote the BOR would have to be a question for them to answer.
  13. Actually, this brings up a great point! At what level of "sourcery" do we consider a report to be believable? That is, by how many degrees of separation from a story is it still considered to be acceptable reporting and not hearsay? Do we tend to believe the report because we believe in the veracity of the reporter. Do we disbelieve a reporter because we disagree him? How would I know your friend is to be believed? Because he subsequently won a Pulitzer? Because you know him and you vouch for his reliability? Because his account is corroborated by other reporters? Do we just take what the media feeds us as "gospel"? Do we just assume they are truth-seekers who remain above the fray, so to speak. Or do we distrust all of them as fallible political animals with their own causes and agendas driving their reporting.

In contrast, your guy "was the eye witness to the events" and he legitimately reported on first-hand observation. I certainly have no problem with him using his own first-hand eyewitness accounts as a source for his book about those events.

But until now they have not believed in God like Santorum? Until now? Santorum is not president. and I'm not sure that's accurate anyway. Really no way to assess that. WTF? BTW, God gave man these rights and then simultaneously slaughtered and enslaved them, LOL. Well, the slaughtering and enslaving of people was done by people who unconstitutionally violated those victims' unalienable, self-evident rights ...regardless of whether or not their rights were endowed by a Creator. Besides, I was only taking a wild guess at the meaning of that singing group's lyrics. You'd probably have to ask them for an accurate interpretation.
