  1. Quote Q. How many gorillas does it take to change a light bulb? A. Only one, but it does take a lot of light bulbs!
  2. If I had my cell phone with me I'd have a minute or so to call manifest and tell them, "Hey Y'all! Watch this!" (The screaming thing might be my second choice.)
  3. All governments (throughout history) have been subject to change by the "will of the people" ...one way or another. Sometimes they like the "replacement" form of government and sometimes they don't.
  4. ....if you never even heard of either of the girls in the "Who's Hotter?" thread.

  6. I don't even want to know. ....maybe some sort of rivalry or ....something?. Hell, maybe they went fishing together.
  7. You shoulda just dug the hole a little deeper. (Anyone ever have an outhouse? I remember my grandparents' had a 2-holer before they got indoor plumbing.) Yup. Grandpa had one at the fish camp at Steinhatchee( one of them names you have trouble with)... Did ya ever open up the door and have a 6' Eastern Diamondback hiding in the outhouse? That will wake ya up in a hurry There are still plenty of diamondbacks, moccasins and pygmies that travel through the property along with hogs, turkey, and whitetails , but I never saw one in the outhouse. The place borders a 2000 acre preserve just a few miles south of Zhills. The side walls only came down to about 8 or 10 inches above the ground so the chickens sometimes did a walk-through while you were in there. Scary enough for a small kid!

Yeah...that and smacking into a hugh iceberg. Wassamatter wid you guys. Have you no concern for the iceberg? Damned thing sittin' there minding its own business and out of nowhere...BAM! Poor guy. Andy dahrlin, the collision did leave him kinda cold The folks at White Star like their oceans "neat". And of personal interest ...I'm reminded that my immigrant grandfather departed Naples on April 30, 1912 aboard the Canada and arrived in New York in mid May. Almost 100 years ago.
  11. Ya, I think his definition of groceries is also a tad off from what is considered common public sense... The general public's normal concept of groceries: http://www.google.com/search?q=groceries&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=hvOKT4PeOaXe0QGXwNnKCQ&biw=1366&bih=582&sei=ivOKT4TdAcPv0gHfnYHZCQ#um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=groceries&oq=groceries&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&gs_l=img.3..0l10.41428l43286l0l44844l9l9l0l4l4l0l164l649l0j5l5l0.frgbld.&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=8a90d391f0a861a1&biw=1366&bih=582 Kallend's concept of groceries: http://www.promo-wholesale.com/Upfiles/Prod_q/Dlk-Mini-Shopping-Cart-With-Skittles-Candy_20090687079.jpg I realize that Detroit is going through some bad times. However, in Illinois, grocery stores sell candy and iced tea. They also sell brooms and drain cleaner. Where I live, we don't call those items groceries. Chicago is a strange place. I think he's got you there, Gravity. "Groceries" refers to food or commodities sold by a grocer. For example, Walmart is a grocer so anything they sell could be called "groceries". They also sell guns. So it could be said that Z was packing "groceries" that night, too.
  12. When the first two "digits" of your phone number were letters. For example, Winter Haven, FL had "CY" for "Cypress" and Lakeland used "MU" for "Mutual".
  13. Clearly, you don't "aluminum", was the 1st spelling and pronunciation of the word. Chemistry geeks changed it to IUM to match the rest of the periodic table. Most of the world though it was a good idea, that Yanks (again) choose not to comply So ...to quote someone upthread, "It may not be common usage anymore ('cept in 'merica) but it is correct".
  14. should be 'will be held'...the way it reads 'will hold' makes it sound like the party will be on stand-by if the weather is fine. Then again you ferINers might LIKE to party in the rain!? the party will hold is correct, it's present tense, "will be held" is future tense. I think "the party is being held ..." is present tense even though "held" sounds like past tense. I think there might be a specific term for phrases like "is being held". The party isn't holding anything. It "is being held" or "will be held" by the folks who are holding, or who will hold, the party. No it is present, \The party will HOLD (it will not move). It may not be common usage anymore but it is correct. WTF? We gonna party or shoot the shit all day? I love idioms. Lord knows! ....this place is full of 'em!

  16. I really hope now that justice will prevail. Not "justice for Trayvon" or "justice for Zimmerman" ....but Justice based on facts and the principle that Zimmerman is presumed to be innocent and must be proven guilty. If, after a fair trial, he really is found to be guilty of the charges brought against him then, of course, he should do the time. AG Holder has alluded to the possibility of Federal charges being brought for violations of civil rights. I somehow doubt that he is referring to the egregious pronouncements from those who have sworn to protect and defend the Constitution and who really are in a position to violate a citizen's civil rights. True justice would have them all impeached and prosecuted. I still have little faith that the prosecution of Z will be grounded in "fairness" in any way. He will likely be thrown into the volcano to appease the monster that has been created by elements of the media, spiritual leaders, various "community advocacy" groups, and others who are using this event to make political hay. I have even less faith that those who condemned Z with their decrees, spewages and theatrical buffoonery will ever be held to account by anyone ...even/especially the people in their districts whom they "represent". I doubt that any jury would dare declare Zimmerman's "innocence" in the face of certain retribution by some vigilante nutjob who has been stirred into a fanatic frenzy and who would believe that their actions would be validated by none less than multiple national "civic" leaders and members of the US Congress.
  17. WOW! Even in the Golden West? It was a nuisance during GDR times I was told. Well, I didn't qualify for a phone during GDR times (you had to apply for it...) but got one in 1990 - when we also belonged to the Golden West - but had to share it with someone who lived next door. They didn't phone much, their daughter wasn't in that age, so we rarely got the "engaged" signal. But I was quite relieved when we got our own line in ... hmm... 1995 or so? So that doesn't make me an old fart coz my son and my daughter can 'member this problem, too. P.S.: You're a really oooold fart when you 'member the times when girls in Utah married Young. (Not a political statement ) WOW! You had an "engaged" signal? We shared our line with multiple families and you could just pick up the receiver and get in on a conversation if you were crass enough. Sometimes you had to just pick up the phone and tell the inconsiderate windbags to get the hell off the line so you could make a call.
  18. Not true. I watched their televised press conference yesterday and they reaffirmed their belief that he acted in self-defense based on the evidence. Their stated reason for withdrawing their counsel is a break in communication. They lost contact with him last Friday, 6 Apr. During that time he contacted the special prosecutor without their representation. Zimmerman's action broke the attorney-client privileged relationship. Looks like he bugged out...left the state. I can't say I blame him. Members of the Federal Government have publicly renounced his rights as a citizen and powerful, influential religious leaders have issued a fatwa against him.
  19. Pic stolen from fb .......
  20. We need more facts. Were the bullets fired from a hunting rifle or a handgun of the type used by gang bangers? If the former it was probably just an accident. Easy enough to tell if the bullet was fired from a gang-banger gun or not. Just look at the hole and see if the bullet went in vertically or sideways.
  21. Well, it wouldn't be his fault. The weather does get quite nasty up there, doesn't it? Besides, is there anyone who knows how much time Obama spent at school ...or how he did while he was there?
  22. This call for a Resolution is no small thing. These are words intended to incite. These words are from the very people who write the laws in a nation that is governed by law. With the acknowledgement that there are some exceptions, most of them are not morons. They are smart enough to understand the fallout from such a disgusting, prejudiced "Resolution". These are people who are among the highest office holders in the land and they intentionally and knowingly undermined one of the most sacred tenets of our justice system. And, as a result, there is now no reasonable chance for a fair trial for Zimmerman if one were to take place. They have knowingly and intentionally thrown down the gauntlet and effectively issued a call to arms from the highest levels of representation if it is determined that Z need not stand trial based on actual evidence. They have already decreed his guilt and are now sending a warning down from on high for those investigating this case to play ball. Right or wrong Z is already dead. This hateful resolution is either one of the most dispicable travesties ever issued from the House or it is one of the most blaring examples of incompetence and pure lack of civics knowledge by those members.
  23. That's going to be a tough row to hoe, as well, seeing as how Zimmerman evidently was the one that published flyers demanding that Justin Collison (son of police Lt. Chris Collison) be punished for attacking Sherman Ware - a homeless black man. (link) Certainly odd that the MSM hasn't picked this up yet, what with how important the Martin case is....right? Doesn't matter. The pressure to "get" him would be too great. Members of the US House of Representatives are even now sponsoring a freaking Resolution blaming racial bias in the case accusing Z of profiling. "Whereas Zimmerman's unfounded assumptions and racial bias led to the use of deadly force …". Tried and convicted as far as they're concerned. Put a fork in him ...he's done. (one way or another)
  24. he may be tried (unlikely), but unless there's a lot more evidence being kept under wraps, not a chance of conviction in a court of law, versus a court of public opinion. Well, the Feds won't try him for murder or such. That's a local issue and there may not be enough to indict him ...much less get it to trial. Getting him for "violating TM's civil rights" is right up the Fed's alley and might be the "compromise" bone that gets thrown to the crowds with the pitchforks and torches to appease them. Won't be enough, though.
