One of our sky family needs some "FREE" help!! Please Open!!

Don't act so special. Just about every country that has ever gone to war against the US has ended up being "the winner" ...except maybe the Duchy of Grand Fenwick (and I think even they won in the end, IIRC).

Low blow! Yes, a little insensitive, I'll admit. But I certainly meant no disrespect. This is the sort of story that makes it to "Ripley's BION" She was a direct descendant of Fletcher. http://beforeitsnews.com/eu/2012/10/sandy-claims-life-of-fletcher-christians-great-great-great-great-granddaughter-2458610.html

$1,000,000.00 (negotiable). That would probably be enough to turn around and buy two other folks' votes ...one to offset the vote I just sold and one for my actual vote. And turn a nice little profit, too! It shouldn't be too hard finding a couple of votes for a few hundred each. No harm - no foul. [/disclaimer - no, not really ]

A whole new meaning for "To Protect and Serve".

Nope! No longer a whuffo ...you're on your way! Funny thing is you will soon fear riding the plane down!

New guy here... How dangerous is this stuff?

So you have never heard of a fatal canopy collision? Those landings are usually "rocky road" ....not "vanilla". -

This right here ^ Each and every jump you make can and will end in a fatality unless you proactively keep that from happening ...beginning with attitude and ongoing training, attention to detail and accepted practices (BSRs), awareness in the air, right down to landing. Even then, it still could end badly. It doesn't matter how many jumps you accumulate, you have to survive each and every one (except maybe the last one.) Most importantly, Have FUN! -
Assad is in THE SEA? Well, Shazam indeed. I'm not sure what you mean by that. I have to assume he is referring to Syria's ports on the Mediterranean Sea. Even though Iran has its own coastline, its access to "the sea" is restricted by sanctions. Also, it is quite a long distance to keep a fleet operational in the Mediterranean and have access to home only by a 3 or 4 thousand mile trip through the Suez for refitting. Syria is Iran's ally. Iraq, while not "officially" a strategic ally of Iran, is (allegedly and either overtly or by looking the other way) allowing passage of "things" through Iraq into Syria and to "the sea" for whatever purpose ...probably items which are prohibited from being loaded onto ships at Iranian ports. We know Iranian-backed/supplied groups are active in Lebanon and waging war against Israel. Maybe even Iranian personnel. According to this, Iranian warships have sailed through the Suez into the Mediterranean and docked at Syrian ports only twice since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. I think that Romney was referring to the access by Iranian warships to Syrian ports and the ability to resupply by a direct land route from Iran to these ports on "the sea". Iran could then keep a permanent battle fleet in the Mediterranean with that direct link to Iran. BTW, I wonder how or if the sanctions are intended to affect the movement of Iranian warships? (I think this is one reason that Iraq was so strategically important for "us".)

Percival Prince or Pembroke? Thanks for the hint. (Never heard of 'em.)

did Baumgartner just jump higher than Kittinger?
muff528 replied to Liemberg's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
According to the French version of his own biography, Michel Fournier claims to have a total of more than 8,700 jumps in 2011, including a French record of height in freefall at 12,000 m.[2] However, his parachuting experience was disputed by Patrick de Gayardon[3] and the magazine Paramag.[4] No official institution has ever confirmed one of his titles. Yeah...he's French! How did Patrick de G dispute anything MF (or anyone else for that matter) did in 2011? Just askin'. -
I agree, but at least in the USA you need certain amounts of "freefall time" for various licenses. Right now we count wingsuit time as "freefall time". So it's not JUST a silly semantic game, we really need to get our collective acts together and decide what counts and what doesn't. Yeah, the line is getting fuzzy, but, when you get right down to it, it's all freefall ...just differences in "configuration". (belly to earth, wingsuit, canopy deployed, head down, etc. Each with its own special terminal velocity.)

If they expect to get a good score they'll need to tighten that exit up.
-
His terminal velocity did not actually increase (It's not a variable, it's fixed for a given body shape and orientation). He was constantly accelerating at 9.8m/s^2 (actual "free fall", FWIW) until he hit thick enough air to slow him down. (60,000 ft ?) Then, he was actually going faster than what the terminal velocity would be if he had experienced constant air resistance in a fall to that point. Wiki says, in clearer words than mine, "An object moving downward with greater than terminal velocity (for example because it was thrown downwards or it fell from a thinner part of the atmosphere or it changed shape) will slow down until it reaches terminal velocity." It is actually possible that he did not reach terminal velocity, but we don't know that yet. Yes, I probably shouldn't have used the term "terminal velocity" since that has a specific meaning. Probably should have said something like "maximum attainable velocity for a given configuration and density" or some such.
-
Temperature is the main determinate for the speed of sound but that was mostly irrelevant in Felix's breaking of the barrier. His speed was well above Mach 1 even for more "familiar" atmospheric temps. The extreme low density played the major role in allowing him to exceed Mach 1 at high altitudes by effectively increasing his terminal velocity. (Do we know if he even actually achieved terminal velocity during the supersonic portion of the descent? Is that even possible?)

Good deal! They probably could use the cash.

Good Luck, Cathy! -
Yes, they will, unfortunately for the region. I don't know why the personal reference. I'm just giving an opinion and prediction. I don't have a dog in that fight, so no skin off my ass if they do get nukes. Might get ugly over there for awhile. (Maybe here, too!)

Yes, very baffling, to say the least! And they play "victim" while at the same time they launch constant attacks against Israel through their surrogates. One thing is sure ...if they keep asking for it they will eventually get it.
