  1. That would be less than 7 users, so I think it may be a bit more than that. I think your math is way off... 0.005% of 130,000 is 650 Maybe in Alabama but not everywhere else ... Okay so my calculator is wrong? Or I'm doing it wrong? 130,000 X 0.005 comes out to 650... That is correct ....but 0.005% of 130,000 is 6.5 0.005 is 0.5 percent. Common mistake.

  3. Very Cool! I remember the F-4s from MacDill flying over Central Florida on their way to Avon Park Bombing Range. You could usually see a pair flying low over I-4 heading south just about every time you got the area of US27 and I-4. Dad said that during the war, the old saying around MacDill was "One a day in Tampa Bay". But I think they were talking about B-26s then.
  4. I have his autograph. I met him at a restaurant in Texas '66 or so. He was having breakfast at the same place as my Cub Scout group. Our den leader knew him and took us over to meet him. I always thought it would be cool to meet him and ask about that fly-by. I have a copy of the newsletter article and would have liked to have gotten an autograph on it. IIRC - the article mentioned that he had been a student at Bartow Air Base. My dad worked there during the 50's until 1960. He worked for a couple of civilian companies that provided flight training and maintenance for the Air Force during that time.
  5. I remember seeing both the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds when they were flying the F-4s. Damn impressive. When I was a kid, the Thunderbirds (F-100s) were at Bartow Air Base in Florida. The maneuver was what they now call "Tactical Surprise". I remember watching the four jets to the left when a solo buzzed from the right going supersonic just in front of the crowd. Broken windows around the base, women dropping babies on the tarmac, other havoc. To my knowledge, this was the last time they were permitted to go supersonic at a show in the US. The base newsletter published a photo of the jet going away showing the shockwave with the claim that it was the first time a supersonic shockwave had been photographed. (I'm sure that there were probably classified photos taken before, even though it was less than 10 years since Yaeger had broken it.) BTW - the pilot was William Pogue who later became a Skylab Astronaut.
  6. While we're at it, we probably should ban the flag that the Union slave states were using ...especially since the Yankee-owned slaves were specifically and cruelly not freed by the Union President's E.P. (The ban should only apply to government buildings, of course ...free speech, and all).
  7. Not only that, the NAACP wants the confederate flag removed from state police vehicle insignia and uniform patches. Where do you draw the line? At the Pennsylvaia-Maryland border? This line? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMZfCar-Ks8 Damn ...I thought Yosemite Sam was from California.
  8. My guess is for the same reason the left wing media doesn't use it. Silly me ...I thought it was because no one would know who the hell they were talking about.

  10. Good question. I don't know what time La Trop opens these days, or if they serve cubans for breakfast. Now that I think about it, it's been years since I've had a cuban at La Trop. I usually get palomilla breaded steak sandwich when I go there. If you're taking I-75, a better bet may be La Septima. Only a couple miles off the Interstate in Brandon. I like their cubans, but some of their other offerings are outstanding and hard to resist. Yellow rice & chicken, i.e. Also, good palomilla. But, I think they only open for lunch and dinner. Have a safe trip.
  11. Aw man, I'm going to be road tripping from Naples to norcal and I just thought "YES I can get a RAD cuban sandwich for lunch" but mean leaving hours later than planned :( Recommend La Tropicana on 7th Ave in Ybor. (full disclosure: my aunt and uncle used to own the place.) Also you could try La Septima in Brandon ...excellent sandwich and other stuff, too.
  12. Plochman's is OK. ...just no Heinz. Heinz is OK for burgers, sometimes. I usually specify French's because that is mandatory for a proper Ybor City Cuban sandwich ...sour pickle, too, ..not dill. Nowadays they make them any old way ...even in Ybor. I think there is now too much influence from the fake Cuban sandwich schemes coming up from Miami. Also, even some of the Ybor City shops are making sandwiches to please outsiders and really are forgetting how to make an authentic one.
  13. Man, you guys always over-engineer everything! Oscar Mayer or similar dog (not to exclude higher-end dogs). Boiled, broiled or grilled or even fried till they pop. Merita, or Wonder, (or generic) bun, ...even a folded piece of white bread is OK. Frenches mustard. Onions, if available. Sometimes sweet relish, sometimes chili or cheese. That's IT!
  14. ...Wish I Could Have Been There Today! http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-33476099
  15. One thing you can be sure of seeing... are a bunch of confederate flags mounted on pickup truck beds riding around... Lots of "Roll Tide" stickers, too!
  16. Yeah, before the Interstates, these were some of the highways where all the old tourist traps attractions were ...before Disney and Universal sucked all the air out of them. Only a few survived, like Weeki Wachi or Gatorland (on OBT). There are still some interesting spots on these routes. Just about all the US highways in the State have lots of historical sites from the Post War boom. We used to take weekend scooter trips down these roads with no particular destination planned. Just stop at whatever places struck our fancy or take the occasional side road.
  17. If you're not in a big hurry, take US41 into Bradenton. Then cross the Skyway and pick up US19 to Perry, then either pick up US98 to Pensacola (my choice). or go to Tallahassee and take US90 west. Many small towns and much more scenic than I-75/I-10.
  18. They're not mystery meat. They're hot dogs. At least they aren't anthracite ...or dustmite, ...or whatever that stuff is that they eat down in OZ.
  19. I am so surprised you would come out as the fashion police. Ha! The whole idea of skydivers posing as "fashion police" is hilarious! Anyone remember the the hot-pink-and-neon-green-and-purple era during the 90s? Patchwork jumpsuits made from z-po scrap? Sit suits? Paisley Monarch canopies?
  20. The last ones of the type I've seen were on US 27 southbound into Clewiston, FL. The signs were by Old South BBQ. It's been a long time since I've been down that way. I wonder if they're still there.
  21. Well, that depends. What do the socialists have in trade? Let's say I've got a note for a sizable chunk of cash that was lent to the Greek people. They can't pay it back. Well, it just so happens I've got my eye on a couple of hundred acres of coastal property on Crete. I'll take that and we'll call it even. Well, you'll call it even. This would be a win-win for Greece. I wonder how many times over they will make you pay for that property (in the form of confiscatory property taxes and other "taxes" on "the wealthy") before they finally quit playing and "nationalize" all your stuff. They'd probably wait until you develop a resort or something before they liberate it and cast you as the villain. The real "Golden Fleece". Reminds me of the old snake parable.
  22. This right here ^^^ ...key words being "federal and state governments" This should be a moot point since the governments would not recognize marriage at all, and no special rights could be recognized by the governments either way. This way, various groups could define marriage and conduct or deny weddings in any way they want without penalty, since the government has no interest. And, at their discretion, the members of one group may or may not recognize the marital rules of another group. As far as children are concerned, new laws would need to be considered that favor, mandate, and enhance parental responsibilities. ...including enforcement and much harsher penalties for dereliction of those responsibilities. Regarding children, the government could still provide benefits in much the same way they do now (WIC, Head Start-type programs, tax credits, etc.), but with enforced penalties for abuse.
  23. Yeah, Dan. Sad to see Max go. ...another Z-hills icon gone. Blues, Max. Nice memorial write-up, TK. Thanks.
  24. 1. Do not do card tricks in the Middle East. 2. Do not argue over how to season seafood gumbo in the Florida panhandle. Day's not over yet.
  25. 3 years since the other thread about this. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4277456;page=unread#unread
